Are You So Afraid of Failure That You’ve Stopped Trying?

What if your fear of failure is keeping you from trying the very things you were made to do? Being called a “failure” in the past can leave a powerful lie behind: that one bad outcome, mistake, rejection, or unfinished attempt says something about your worth. But our actions may reveal a moment in time; they do not define our identity. When fear of failure turns into perfectionism or paralysis, we can stop pursuing the passions, gifts, and opportunities God has placed in front of us. This conversation explores fear of failure, resilience, perfectionism, and the idea of a “Failure Quotient” (FQ)—the ability to fail intelligently, learn from what happened, adjust, and keep moving forward. We look at what it means to experiment wisely, learn from mistakes, embrace feedback, and develop our God-given gifts without making perfection the goal. For teen girls and young women, this matters because fear can quietly shape the choices we make. It can keep us from applying, creating, speaking, leading, serving, sharing our faith, or developing a talent because we are afraid of getting it wrong. Parents, mentors, and trusted adults also have an important role in helping young women understand that correction is not condemnation and that a mistake does not have to become an identity. You’ll walk away thinking about: • What fear of failure may be keeping you from pursuing • The difference between failure from experimentation, human limitation, and sin • Why progress matters more than perfection • How feedback and continuous improvement can help us grow • What the Parable of the Talents teaches us about fear, stewardship, and using what God has entrusted to us At Under His Wings Gulf Coast, we want young women to know that their worth is already secure in Christ. Growth doesn't require perfection. Sometimes faithful obedience is messy, uncomfortable, and imperfect—but the goal is to keep getting back up and keep walking. Watch or listen to the full episode, then share it with a young woman, parent, mentor, or friend who may need the reminder: emphasize the rising, not the falling. Not Every Connection Is Community: How to Navigate Healthy Relationships in a Lonely, Isolated World

Why do we feel alone? Not every connection is communion. And not every relationship is actually healthy, including the ones directly at our fingertips.  In this episode, we talk about how to navigate healthy relationships using a framework called Relational Quotient (RQ): your capacity to form, discern, steward, maintain, and repair relationships. We dig into why loneliness can choose our relationships for us if we're not careful, what parasocial relationships are and why they can feel more real than the ones directly in front of you, and how to tell the difference between a relationship that's healthy and one that's not.   We also talk about conflict, specifically, whether you tend to become a peacefaker who avoids it, a peacebreaker who explodes, or a peacemaker who does the harder work of repair. This matters because almost every teen girl and young woman is navigating some version of this right now: a friendship that feels one-sided, an online connection that doesn't match reality, a fight that never got resolved, or a quiet loneliness they don't know what to do with. Parents and mentors watching a daughter withdraw, over-attach, or avoid conflict entirely will recognize these patterns immediately.  By the end of this episode, you'll be able to spot the difference between a relationship built on discernment and one built on loneliness, understand what it actually means to steward a relationship instead of using it, recognize your own default response to conflict, and see why healthy boundaries and forgiveness aren't opposites. You'll also walk away with a clearer picture of where your sense of security is really coming from.  Under His Wings Gulf Coast has these conversations because relationships are where a lot of the real work of identity and self-worth actually gets tested in real friendships, real conflict, and real moments of loneliness. This episode is part of our ongoing Self-Worth Series, built from years of walking alongside young women through exactly this. Watch or listen to the full episode, and if you know someone navigating a hard relationship season right now, send this her way. Follow Under His Wings Gulf Coast for the rest of the series as we keep unpacking what it takes to build real, lasting self-worth. Identity in Christ for Girls: Why Your Feelings Can't Be Your Foundation

Your feelings will tell you a different story about who you are every single day. If your identity is built on how you feel, it will never hold steady. That's where Spiritual Quotient comes in. In this episode, we unpack Spiritual Quotient (SQ) — sometimes called spiritual intelligence — and what it actually means to know who you are, why you exist, and what is meant to anchor you when everything else shifts.  We look at Moses, a man who once doubted he was capable of the very purpose God had called him to, and trace what changed between his fear at the burning bush and his confidence at the Red Sea. We also talk honestly about what it means to be a "Daughter of God," and why that phrase is life-altering when you actually understand the authority and identity behind it. This conversation matters because most young women aren’t struggling with a lack of information, they're struggling with a lack of grounding.  Culture offers a hundred competing answers for who you should be, and without something steady underneath, it's easy to be shaped by whatever opinion or trend is loudest that week. Parents and mentors watching a daughter get pulled in different directions will recognize this immediately: the real battle usually isn’t behavior, it’s identity. By the end of this episode, you'll have language for questions you're asking, who you're allowing to define you, whether you believe your life has purpose beyond achievement, what your actions reveal about what you actually believe about God, and what habits or relationships are keeping you rooted. You'll also walk away understanding that spiritual growth isn't a score to chase; it's a grace to receive. Under His Wings Gulf Coast exists because we've watched these questions play out in real relationships and real decisions with the young women we walk alongside in the actual work of becoming who God made them to be. This episode is part of our ongoing Self-Worth Series, built from years of walking alongside girls and young women through exactly this method. Watch or listen to the full episode, and if there’s a young woman in your life who needs to hear this, send it her way. Building Grit as a Young Lady: What Actually Separates Quitters, Campers, and Climbers

You can't control what happens to you. Job loss, a friendship that ends, a diagnosis, a season that just won't let up, but you can control how you respond. That response has a name: your Adversity Quotient, and it might be the single biggest factor in whether you come out of a hard season stronger or stay stuck. In this conversation, we break down the Adversity Quotient (AQ) — a framework developed by Dr. Paul Stoltz that measures how much control you believe you have over a hard situation, whether you take ownership of your response, how far you let it bleed into other areas of your life, and how long you expect it to last.  We talk through Stoltz's three types of people facing adversity: quitters, who walk away; campers, who make some progress and then settle; and climbers, who keep moving even when it's slow. And we ask the harder question underneath all of it: where does faith fit into resilience, and what does it look like to persevere with grace?  This matters because every teen girl and young woman listening is somewhere on that mountain right now, whether or not she has language for it. So is every parent watching a daughter go quiet, every mentor trying to know when to push and when to let someone rest, every family navigating a hard season together. Understanding AQ gives you a way to name what's happening instead of just feeling stuck in it and a way to talk about it with the young woman in your life instead of guessing. By the end of this episode, you'll walk away with a clearer picture of where you tend to land when adversity shows up, why “stopping” isn't always the same as “quitting,”  how ownership and perspective change the way hardship affects you long-term, and what it means to let your faith carry the weight your own strength can’t. You'll also hear a personal story about how a teenage scholarship essay turned into a lifelong lesson about what adversity is actually for. Under His Wings Gulf Coast exists because young women deserve more than surface-level encouragement: they deserve real tools for real life, grounded in both research and their identity in Christ. This conversation is part of our ongoing Self-Worth Series, built from over 15 years of walking alongside girls and young women through exactly these seasons. Emotional Intelligence in an AI World: How to Build Self-Worth, Healthy Relationships & Emotional Maturity

What happens to our emotional intelligence when AI becomes part of the way we communicate, make decisions, and navigate relationships? In this episode of Listen In Love: What Every Young Woman Needs to Know, Under His Wings Gulf Coast explores emotional intelligence (EQ/EI), self-worth, healthy relationships, and emotional maturity in an increasingly digital and AI-driven world. Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize and manage our own emotions while understanding and responding appropriately to the emotions of others. For young women, developing emotional intelligence can shape friendships, family relationships, future workplaces, conflict resolution, communication, and overall personal growth. We discuss why AI cannot replace genuine human connection, how emotional intelligence helps us understand what may be happening behind someone's behavior, and why learning to regulate our emotions can prevent hurt feelings from becoming anger, division, or offense. You'll also hear practical ways to strengthen emotional intelligence in everyday life, including: • Practicing self-awareness and emotional regulation • Listening instead of making assumptions • Asking thoughtful questions • Learning to apologize and forgive • Celebrating others without comparison • Practicing wisdom and discernment online • Using AI responsibly when navigating relationships • Seeking God, parents, mentors, and trusted friends for wisdom • Remembering that every person is made in the image of God Most importantly, we explore Christian emotional intelligence through the lens of Scripture. Emotional maturity isn't simply about becoming a better communicator—it is about learning to love God and love others well. As artificial intelligence becomes more influential in the lives of Gen Z and Gen Alpha, the ability to build authentic relationships, practice empathy, communicate wisely, and show grace will only become more important. This episode is for teen girls, young women, parents, mentors, educators, youth leaders, and anyone investing in the next generation. 🎧 Listen to Listen In Love: What Every Young Woman Needs to Know for Christ-centered conversations about self-worth, relationships, personal development, faith, and growing into the woman God created you to be.
