#161 He Had No Business and a Hesitant Husband. 6 Months Later He Was Living in Amsterdam

Tad Hopp is joining us today! Tad is a sobriety coach for gay men, and he recently moved to Amsterdam on the DAFT visa. His story is about finally taking action after decades of waiting, getting on the same page as his husband, and building a new community abroad. They're messy and uncertain, but waiting isn’t risk-free either. Tad’s advice: take the leap, figure it out as you go, and trust that it’ll all work out. #160 Evan Has More Friends Than Me (And Why That Made Me Realize I'm Lonely)

I'm getting really personal in this one. After 13 years of living abroad, moving to Spain with my husband and daughter, and having multiple team members living in the same city... I still felt lonely. And I didn't know how to admit it. In this completely unscripted episode, I share what it's actually been like coming back to Málaga after being gone for three months, diving straight into bootcamp mode, and realizing that my business manager Evan had built this entire social life while I was gone… and I was jealous. I talk about the moment I finally admitted to Evan that I felt left out and lonely, and what happened when I did. Spoiler: he told me he felt lonely too, even with all those friends. And that conversation changed everything. What I cover: Why loneliness can happen even when you move abroad with a partner or familyThe scary moment I asked Evan to introduce me to his friends (and why it felt so awkward)How I forced myself to reach out to three people I'd only met once or twice (and what happened)Why we hold ourselves back from being vulnerable about lonelinessThe difference between locals and other expats when it comes to building communityHow admitting "I have no friends" at a meetup actually helped me make friendsMy "big asks" practice and how asking for what you need (even socially) is worth the discomfortThe big lesson: Loneliness abroad isn't a sign you made the wrong choice. It's a sign you're human. And the solution isn't going back home, it's reaching out. This episode is raw, honest, and probably the most vulnerable I've been on the podcast. If you've ever felt lonely (or you're worried you will when you move), this one's for you. #158 I Had Half the Signups I Expected (And It Turned Into My Best Bootcamp Ever)

I just wrapped up my winter bootcamp, and for the first time ever, things didn’t go according to plan. Signups were slow, ads were wildly expensive, and we started the bootcamp nearly $13K in the red. Not exactly the launch you hope for. But what happened next completely changed how I think about growth, niching down, and building a business that actually works. In this episode, I share: Why 350 attendees outperformed a previous 800-person bootcampWhat went wrong during this launch (and why signups stalled)The real numbers behind the bootcamp and ad spendThe surprising power of quality over quantity when you niche downHow emotional regulation and strategy kept me out of panic modeWhy this experience pushed me to rethink my reliance on adsThe visibility strategy I’m pivoting to insteadThis launch scared me, but it also reminded me that sometimes numbers that look like “failure” are actually pointing you toward the better strategy. If you run your own business (or want to), this behind-the-scenes breakdown is one you won’t want to miss. #157 There Comes a Point Where You Either Move, Or You Admit You Won’t.

You may have to look inward and realize it’s not about visas, taxes, or possibility. It’s about deciding that this dream is going to become your life, and knowing that not choosing is a choice.  Today, we’re covering: Why familiar feels secure, but familiar doesn’t always mean stable or aligned. The real risk: Is moving the scariest option? Or is staying stuck in place? How saying “I need more money” keeps the dream distant. A clear income, visa, and tax plan makes it a calculated move, not reckless.Gathering information can become avoidance. You don’t need everything to be absolutely perfect, you need a clear plan and a date.Waiting can cost you. Waiting doesn’t build confidence. Action does. Bravery is doing it afraid (with support). The identity shift that comes with a big move: This isn’t about logistics. It’s about who you decide to be: the dreamer, or the one who moves. At some point, you stop asking “is this possible?” and start asking “is this who I am now?”  The only real question left is: Are you ready to decide? If so, Freedom Life Experience enrollment is closing tonight! Subscribe and Review If you loved this episode, please take a moment to subscribe and leave a review on Apple Podcasts! #156 If You Could Do This Alone, You Would Have By Now

How long have you been thinking about moving abroad? A year? Five? Twenty?  You’ve thought about this before. You’ve researched it. You’ve imagined the life. You’ve probably had a Google Doc titled “Move Abroad Plan.” And you’re still here. So how do you make it different this time? In this episode, we cover: The cycle you keep repeatingHow the people who actually moved got to that point (hint: it’s because they didn’t insist on figuring it out alone)What DIY-ing this really looks likeHow this time becomes different. Support, accountability, and execution are what actually get you on that plane. If you’ve wanted this forever, dreaming harder isn’t the answer. This can be the time you make the move happen. But only if you do it differently than you’ve done it before, and stop trying to do it alone. #154 You Have 47 Tabs Open About Moving Abroad. Here's Why You Still Haven't Done It.

If you’ve been “researching” moving abroad for months (or years) and still haven’t made it happen, this episode is for you.  Spoiler: you don’t have a research problem. You have a decision problem. The over-research rabbit hole is a hiding place, and the first step out of the rabbit hole is clarity. Let’s get you to finally move from thinking to doing. In this episode, we unpack: The D.R.E.A.M. modelHow research is your safety blanket. You’re not looking for more information, you’re looking for certainty and permission. Neither exists. You’re asking the wrong questions. “What can I do?” leads to paralysis. “What do I actually want my life to look like?” leads to decisions. The real fear isn’t lack of info — it’s making the wrong choice. But staying stuck costs more than learning from a few mistakes along the way.Information doesn’t create confidence - plans do.Not deciding is still a decision.Ask yourself this: if years of research haven’t moved you yet, why would more research help you now? If you’re ready to stop thinking about moving abroad and actually do it, I’ll see you inside the Escape Plan Bootcamp.
