The Bodhisattva's Diet: Veganism and the Vow, Dr. Will Tuttle, Part 1

Denver Dzogchen Podcast Episode 64 The Bodhisattva's Diet: Veganism and the Vow, Dr. Will Tuttle, Part 1 In this episode Joseph and Damien are joined by special guest Dr. Will Tuttle, author of The World Peace Diet, for a conversation about food and the bodhisattva path. The discussion covers ahimsa and compassion as the ground of practice, and why the distinction between vegetarianism and veganism matters more than most practitioners assume. Dairy and eggs do not spare an animal's life, they postpone the slaughter, so vegetarianism often rests on a line that does not hold. Joseph, Damien and Dr. Tuttle also look at Buddhist East Asia, where dairy traditionally had no place in the diet even though consumption has climbed in recent decades, and at what changes when a practitioner steps out of a consumer relationship to other beings. The conversation closes on the karma of confinement, and how imprisoning animals ripens as our own imprisonment.
