    Send us Fan Mail For girls and women growing up in the 80s, skincare included exfoliating your skin with apricot pits or pumice stone until you bled, and cleansing with Irish Spring bar soap. Makeup was bold and expressive, but it wasn't what it is today. We used Q-tips, and applicators that came with the product, or our fingers. We melted eyeliner with our lighters for that super-smooth application. There wasn't setting spray and there wasn't skincare, but man, was it fun.  In this episode of Strangers With Kittens, we meet Michelle Spieler, a professional makeup artist with over 30 years in the industry. Like when you learned that the popsicle sticks had jokes on them or the first time you snuck out of the house after dark. You didn't know what was coming next. There was an electricity surging through the day, and around every corner there was something new. There was always something to do, or someone to see; everyone had a different story, and it wasn't coated in fear or cynicism. We knew almost nothing.  These days, it feels like nothing surprises us anymore. We've endured decades of terror, heartbreak, love, divorce, setbacks, and detours. Is Gen X stuck in a rut or finally resting?  This week's episode confronts this period of life where we are caring for aging parents, healing our inner child, and watching our children mature into young adults. Many of us are losing our jobs because of our age, or because of AI. Others are losing their marriages. What's Next is about taking that moment to re-evaluate and decide what YOU want.
