    Almost Rich Aunties

    This week we start with a question: Am I even really who I am… and who will I be when I can finally afford myself? 😂 We get into how much money, access, and lifestyle play a role in how we express who we really are. Then Amanda Seales dropped a diss track, so naturally we have to discuss. Is Amanda simply misunderstood, or does she enjoy being a contrarian? This leads us to another July 1st Cancer, Chlöe Bailey, who like Amanda often gets hit with the “she’s doing too much” critique and doesn’t always seem to land with the public. Is there something about these July 1st babies?! 👀 Somehow, we end up back at one of our favorite frustrations: Normani. We WANT her to be great, but does Normani actually want to succeed as a solo artist? Because sometimes… the actions are unclear! We talk about what WE would be doing if we managed Normani...and safe to say, we’d be hitting the pavement like early Beyoncé. 😂 Finally, are the VMAs officially dead? Sadly… it’s looking that way. We have theories about how a show that once gave us some of the biggest moments in pop culture lost its magic. And the latest Taylor Swift moment isn’t helping; creating a special award and seemingly finding another way to center her video feels like part of the problem. We get that the VMAs are a major part of Taylor’s history (her victim-to-villain arc basically started there!), but nobody wants to sit through the Taylor Swift Awards every year.     Iced Coffee Stains

    This week, we start by talking about friendship breakups and get a little vulnerable lol. We talk about outgrowing friendships, knowing when it’s time to let go, and why friendship breakups can be so hard. Then we get into Iced Coffee Gate, which has blown up on the socials, and debate whether it’s appropriate to bring an iced coffee into a job interview. Is this even something worth fighting for? At the end of the day, is it practical? Are we becoming boomers? We also briefly get into HYROX poop lady Joanna Wietrzyk. We give our thoughts, and we are appalled lol. We end with our new segment, BeyHive Buzz. We talk about the Cécred UK launch and another interesting press week for Jay-Z as folks point out his connections to Robert Kraft following the controversy surrounding Macklemore being removed from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour after saying “Free Palestine.” At the same time, Colin Kaepernick is on a press tour of his own, debuting his new memoir, The Perilous Fight, and speaking about his experience being blackballed by the NFL. That brings us back to Jay-Z’s decision to partner with the NFL during the boycott and the role he played in bringing Black audiences and performers back to the league. And then Rolling Stone teases Act III, Beyoncé’s highly anticipated rock album, which has us asking: Are you tryna take some of the heat off your huzzzband?? Because with everything we know now, whatever comes next is going to be VERY interesting. The stage is set, old conversations are coming back around, and some unexpected players are entering the chat.     All Over The Place

    Court is officially in session, and this week Ed Sheeran, Jasmine Crockett, Chris Brown, Tyler Perry and more are on trial! ⚖️ We kick things off with the controversy surrounding Macklemore’s removal from Ed Sheeran’s ongoing Loop Tour following backlash over his outspoken support for Palestine. We unpack Ed’s response, the pressure reportedly coming from Robert Kraft and stadium owners, P!nk’s criticism of Macklemore, and the bigger question: What responsibility do artists have to use their platforms to speak up for human rights? We also discuss why claiming neutrality isn't an option when real people are suffering as we speak. Free Palestine. Free Congo. Free Sudan. Period. Then, somehow, we end up asking a completely unrelated but necessary question: What happened to American Idol?! 😭 Next on trial is Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett after she appeared at Chris Brown and Usher’s Texas tour stop and honored the artists with Congressional recognition. We have QUESTIONS. Why Chris Brown? Why use an official Congressional honor? And with thousands of people gathered in one place, why not use the opportunity to encourage people to vote? We get into our right to critique the politicians we support, accountability, our culture’s relationship with famous men, and whether being male-centered sometimes clouds the way we respond to abuse. Finally, we’re talking Tyler Perry and his famously fast productions. When does being efficient and saving money cross the line into exploitation? And after years of Black trauma being at the center of so many of his stories, is it time for Tyler Perry to use his massive platform and resources to usher in a new generation of Black filmmakers with new perspectives, stories and experiences? And before we adjourn, ticket buying itself needs to be put on trial because WHAT is going on?! Stevie Wonder tickets sold out in minutes, and we have to ask: how are the elders supposed to compete in the Hunger Games that concert ticket buying has become?! 😭 When getting tickets to see your fave requires multiple devices, presale codes, perfect Wi-Fi, and Olympic-level reflexes, something has gone terribly wrong.     You.Must.Have.Lost.Yo.Mind

    We’re starting on a high note this week by congratulating DMV girlie Kamie Crawford on her gorgeous wedding! 💍 Because truly… the wedding was a DREAM. Then we get into North West’s upcoming headlining concert and why we don’t think she’s ready. At 13, who exactly is North being marketed to? We question why her parents aren’t building something specifically for a tween audience and whether putting her on such a big stage this early is setting her up for some possible future embrassament. Next, it’s Beyoncé’s B’Day 20th anniversary, from that infamous $1,000 empty box (girl…) to the conversation around Beyoncé sampling Selena’s “Como La Flor.” We push back on some of the criticism from the Latino community and get into a bigger conversation about cultural exchange, anti-Blackness, and the contradictions we see when Fat Joe can defend his use of the N-word while Beyoncé sampling a beloved Latino artist becomes a problem. Finally, we head to the US Open, where influencers disrupting matches has us asking: has content creation made people forget how to read the room?! We also unpack the concern over Ariana Grande's appearance, her decision to step away from the public eye, and why we feel the response from her team dismisses genuine concern by labeling it as "negativity" instead of engaging with it. Finally, we break down Nara Smith's Call Her Daddy interview and her attempt to distance herself from the trad wife label. We discuss why we don't buy the rebrand, why it feels like revisionist history, and whether audiences are being gaslit into believing the messaging that built her platform never existed.
