Case Updates: Kimberlee Singler, Barry Morphew, Amber Spradlin, Mia Campos, Sheila Mann

Some cases stay with us long after the episode ends. This week, we're checking back in on five cases we've covered before and finding out what's happened since we first told their stories. From Kimberlee Singler finally being extradited back to Colorado and facing trial, to the ongoing wait for justice in the murders of Amber Spradlin and Mia Campos, we're looking at where these cases stand now. We're also checking in on Sheila Mann's case, where there has been frustratingly little movement, and the Suzanne Morphew case, where Barry Morphew is once again headed toward a murder trial. These cases may have left our original episodes, but they haven't left our radar. 4 True Crime Cases We Covered | Major Updates You Need to Know

We've covered these cases before. But the stories didn't end when our episodes did. This week, we're catching you up on four cases we've followed over the years. Including Alexee Trevizo, Letecia Stauch, Kouri Richins, and Robert Dear. Alexee Trevizo’s case suffered a major setback for prosecutors after the New Mexico Supreme Court ruled that key statements she made in the hospital cannot be used at trial. Letecia Stauch's overturned conviction has taken another turn as the state continues fighting the decision. Kouri Richins has hit another roadblock in her efforts to have her post-conviction proceedings handled by a different judge. And in the Robert Dear case, the long-awaited trial will never happen after his death in federal custody. Some cases are still moving toward a courtroom. Some are headed back to one. And some will never get the ending everyone was waiting for. From the Vault | Cassie Carli

Before Marcus Spanevelo's federal murder trial begins, we're taking a trip back into the Justice For Podcast vault with one of the cases that has stayed with us since the beginning—Cassie Carli. Cassie disappeared in March 2022 after meeting her ex, Marcus Spanevelo, for a child custody exchange. Days later, she was found buried in a shallow grave in Alabama, leaving behind a young daughter and a family still searching for justice. Since we originally released this episode, there have been major developments. Federal prosecutors have announced they are seeking the death penalty against Spanevelo on the charge of kidnapping resulting in death. That decision changed the course of the case, turning it into a capital prosecution and adding months of additional legal proceedings. If you've been wondering why this case has taken so long to reach trial, that's a big reason why. Capital cases require extensive preparation by both sides, including additional attorneys, expert investigations, and countless pretrial hearings. While it's frustrating for Cassie's loved ones to continue waiting, these delays are not uncommon in federal death penalty cases. At this time, Marcus Spanevelo has pleaded not guilty, and no final trial date has been set. Prosecutors have proposed an April 2027 trial, but that timeline could still change as pretrial litigation continues. As we wait for the next chapter in Cassie's case, we're revisiting her story and remembering the woman at the center of it all. If you missed this episode the first time—or want to refresh your memory before the trial—now is the perfect time to listen. Justice delayed is never easy, and we'll continue following this case until Cassie Carli and her family finally get their day in court. 💜 Disclaimer  The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and do not necessarily reflect the views of any affiliated organizations. Namiko Takaba

On November 13, 1999, 32-year-old Namiko Takaba was brutally murdered inside her apartment in Nagoya, Japan, while her two-year-old son remained in the home. Investigators recovered DNA, bloody footprints, and a trail of evidence that should have identified the killer—but despite those clues, the case remained unsolved for more than 26 years. Refusing to give up on his wife, Namiko's husband made an extraordinary decision that kept hope alive for decades. His determination eventually led to a breakthrough that shocked investigators and changed the course of the case forever. More than two decades later, advances in DNA technology finally revealed the truth—but the motive behind the murder left even seasoned detectives stunned. After waiting 26 years for answers, was justice finally served?
