    Choosing Mercy Over Judgment | James 2:1-13

    Text if you need me? Prayer or just need encouragement… A flight delay is annoying. A missed connection is frustrating. But a long, rainy, late-night drive with a driver who looks seriously unwell can turn stress into something deeper: a moment that reveals what is really in our hearts. We tell the full story of a trip to Grand Rapids that went wildly off plan, from airport chaos to a tense overnight rideshare, and how God used it to confront our instincts to judge quickly.  Then we open James 2:1-13 and let Scripture do its work. James does not soften the message: favoritism is sin, and the royal law still stands, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” We talk honestly about the difference between wisdom and suspicion, compassion and denial, mercy and enabling. Safety concerns can be real and still leave room for dignity, patience, and respect for the person in front of us.  One verse lingers over everything, James 2:13 in the New Living Translation: “There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.” We wrestle with what it means to ask God for forgiveness while withholding compassion from others, especially when we are tired, disappointed, or afraid.     Mirror, Mirror: Do You Remember Who You Are in Christ? | Study of James 1:17-27

    Text if you need me? Prayer or just need encouragement… One hard day can mess with your memory. You know God has been faithful, you’ve seen prayers answered, you’ve watched doors open, and still a single painful moment can crowd out all that evidence. That’s why I love James 1:17–27. It gives us a simple, challenging picture: God’s Word is a mirror, and the real question is whether we remember what we saw after we walk away. I’m calling this devotional Mirror Mirror because the passage hits two sides of spiritual growth at once: identity and action. James warns us not to merely listen to Scripture while our lives stay the same, and he gets specific about what living faith looks like, including being quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. We talk about how the “reflection” of faith shows up in our reactions, our words, and the way we treat people when life feels unfair.     How to Know If You're Being Tested or Tempted | James 1: 12-16

    Text if you need me? Prayer or just need encouragement… Have you ever looked at a desire you couldn’t shake and wondered, Why would God let me want this if it’s wrong? James 1:12-16 gives us a needed correction and a huge comfort: God blesses endurance, but God is never the source of temptation. When we mix those two up, we start blaming the Father for what is actually pulling us away from Him, and our trust takes a quiet hit.  We walk slowly through James and name the difference with plain language. Temptation isn’t God testing your obedience by dangling sin in front of you.  To make it real, we revisit Abraham in Genesis 22 and notice the small details that reveal big trust: “We will come back,” and “God will provide.” If you’re in a hard season, you’re not alone, and you’re not automatically failing.     Should Christians Ask God or AI? How to Find True Wisdom | James 1:6–12

In this Christian devotional and Bible study on James 1:6–12, we explore how to trust God for direction, overcome double-mindedness, and seek true wisdom in a world filled with instant answers, endless opinions, artificial intelligence, and tools like ChatGPT. James warns that doubt can make us feel like waves tossed by the wind. But what does that kind of doubt look like in everyday life? Sometimes it appears when our loyalty becomes divided when we pray for God’s wisdom but immediately turn to social media, Google, AI, or everyone else’s opinion because we are afraid to wait for His answer. I share a childhood experience that taught me how fear of asking can create unnecessary pain. That lesson connects directly to our spiritual lives: God invites us to ask Him for wisdom, believe that He is willing to guide us, and resist the temptation to fill every quiet moment with more information and noise. We also discuss Christian discernment in an AI-driven world. As someone who works in technology, I recognize the value of tools like ChatGPT. However, technology should support our thinking not replace prayer, Scripture, biblical wisdom, or the guidance of the Holy Spirit. AI can provide information, but it cannot take the place of an intimate relationship with God. You’ll also hear how discernment can protect your peace during high-stakes seasons. We discuss avoiding the spiral of worst-case scenarios online while still respecting medical expertise, asking thoughtful questions, and making wise decisions.     Christian Friendship and Accountability: Why Good Friends Tell You the Truth

    Text if you need me? Prayer or just need encouragement… What does the Bible teach about Christian friendship and accountability? In Part 3 of the Friendship Series, we explore why godly friends tell us the truth—even when the truth is difficult to hear and how loving correction can strengthen our faith, relationships, and character. Some of the most loving words you will ever hear are the ones you don’t want to hear. True Christian accountability is not about judgment, embarrassment, or speaking with anger. It is about having friends who care enough to correct you with honesty, wisdom, and love. I share a real-life experience involving a social media joke that did not land the way it was intended. What followed was an honest conversation between close friends, careful attention to tone, genuine repentance, and the restoration of the friendship. It was also a reminder that something dismissed as “just social media” may represent another person’s business, ministry, calling, or livelihood. We then turn to the biblical story of Nathan confronting King David after David’s sin involving Bathsheba and his attempt to cover it up. Nathan demonstrated what biblical accountability looks like: he had the courage to speak truth to someone powerful while allowing God to bring conviction.     Loyalty vs. Blind Allegiance: What Does the Bible Say About Loyalty?

    Text if you need me? Prayer or just need encouragement… What does the Bible say about loyalty in Christian friendships? In this Christian devotional, we explore the difference between godly loyalty and blind allegiance and why loving someone does not require staying silent, choosing sides, or ignoring behavior that is wrong. “Loyalty” is one of those words that can sound honorable while causing real damage. When someone demands that you prove your loyalty by abandoning your convictions, overlooking sin, or agreeing with everything they do, that is not healthy Christian friendship. It is blind allegiance. Can you be loyal to someone and still tell them they’re wrong? I believe you can and sometimes, you must. Biblical loyalty is grounded in love, truth, wisdom, and faithfulness to God. Love without truth is not genuine love; sometimes, it is fear disguised as loyalty. We turn to Daniel 2 and the friendship between Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Beyond the familiar story of the fiery furnace, Scripture shows these loyal friends facing a life-or-death crisis together. Instead of turning against one another, they sought God’s mercy, prayed together, and remained united under tremendous pressure.     Caleb and Joshua: How Shared Faith Builds Strong Christian Friendships

    Text if you need me? Prayer or just need encouragement… Why do some friendships grow stronger while others slowly fade? In this Christian devotional, we explore how shared faith, values, and spiritual goals can create stronger Christian friendships—and what Caleb and Joshua teach us about trusting God together. Some friendships change not because anyone did something wrong, but because life begins asking different things of each person. A friendship that once felt effortless may become strained as priorities, beliefs, responsibilities, and goals change. That does not necessarily mean either person is bad. It may mean the foundation that once held the friendship together has shifted. Shared purpose can be a quiet but important foundation of lasting friendship. This is especially true for Christians who desire relationships that encourage spiritual growth, obedience to God, and courageous faith. Having more friends is not always better than having a small circle of people who share your faith and help you continue walking with God. We then turn to Numbers 13–14 and the biblical example of Caleb and Joshua. They saw the same fortified cities and giants that the other Israelite spies saw, but they responded differently. While others focused on fear, Caleb and Joshua trusted God’s promise and believed He was able to lead Israel into the Promised Land.
