Carnivore for Depression: A Family's Full Transformation | Christy Kriese (Replay)

๐Ÿ“ฃ Two years ago, Christy Kriese was bedridden, unable to leave the house, and unsure she'd ever feel like herself again. Today, she's back to share what's changed โ€” for her, and for almost her entire family. ๐Ÿ“‹ A return guest from the show's earliest days as Less of Me Success Stories, Christy Kriese joins Robyn for a reunion conversation covering the two years since her original appearance. They dig into what happens when medications are tapered too quickly, how a strict carnivore approach became the turning point in her recovery, and how that recovery rippled out to her husband, her son, her son-in-law, her daughter, her grandkids, and her brother-in-law โ€” each finding their own version of healing along the way. ๐Ÿ”‘ What You'll Learn How a rushed medication taper led to a mental health crisis and four different drugs in four weeksWhy cyclical depression is different from a bipolar diagnosis, and how that distinction got missedThe first physical signs of healing Christy noticed after starting carnivore, and how quickly they showed upHow her husband's degenerative eye disease has improved over two years on carnivoreWhy feeling well, not tracking numbers, has been her most reliable guide throughout ๐Ÿ’ก Key Insight "I have zero cravings for anything ever. Low-Carb Doctor's Journey to Faith | Dr. Laura Buchanan

๐Ÿ“ฃ A family medicine physician who built her career on evidence found herself facing things she couldn't measure. Dr. Laura Buchanan shares how low-carb medicine, menopause care, and a series of unexplainable events reshaped both her practice and her faith. ๐Ÿ“‹ Dr. Laura Buchanan practices low-carb, metabolic health medicine at Toward Health alongside Dr. Tro Kalayjian, after her own frustration with standard nutrition training led her to ketogenic and low-carb approaches during residency. She talks with Robyn about using CGMs to catch hidden blood sugar spikes, the pushback she faced early in her career for recommending low-carb over insulin, and the gaps she found in how menopause is treated in women's healthcare. The conversation then turns personal, as Dr. Buchanan describes a string of events she couldn't explain away โ€” leading her to write her new memoir, Make It Be So, about the collision between an evidence-trained mind and faith. ๐Ÿ”‘ What You'll Learn How Dr. Buchanan transitioned from standard medical training into a low-carb, metabolic health-focused practiceWhy continuous glucose monitors can reveal hidden blood sugar spikes from "healthy" processed foodsThe overlooked role of menopause and hormone therapy in anxiety, joint pain, and other misdiagnosed symptomsWhat genitourinary syndrome of menopause is and why so few women get treated for itThe series of unexplainable events that led Dr. Buchanan to write her new memoir on faith and medicine ๐Ÿ’ก Key Insight "Stay open, be less stubborn, stop dismissing whatever it is that you don't initially understand." โ€” Dr. Laura Buchanan ๐ŸŒ Connect with Dr. Laura Buchanan https://toward.health/providers/dr-laura-buchanan/ https://x.com/LauraBuchananMD https://www.instagram.com/laurabuchananmd/ Book, Make It Be So: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1972582003 โš•๏ธ This podcast is for informational and educational purposes only and is not medical advice; always consult a qualified healthcare professional about your own health decisions. โณ Chapters 0:47 Introduction 2:44 Growing Up and Watching Her Grandparents Age 4:30 Discovering Low Carb in Medical School 6:22 Practicing Low Carb Through Residency 9:46 Pushback From the Hospital System 16:12 Joining Dr. Tro at Toward Health 20:26 Why Metabolic Health Is Mental Health 25:01 The Gap in Menopause Care 34:10 Genitourinary Syndrome and Overlooked Symptoms 42:04 Introducing the New Book, Make It Be So 44:48 The Guardian Angel Dream and God Incidents 58:12 How Faith Has Changed Her Practice ๐ŸŽง New episodes drop every Thursday on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and all major platforms. ๐ŸŒฑ Know someone with a keto success story?
