Tony Dungy on His NBC Exit, Super Bowl Heartbreak & Standing Firm in His Faith | Sage Steele Show

Tony Dungy joins Sage Steele for 100 minutes, nearly three decades after she first covered his Buccaneers as a young reporter in Tampa. He explains what happened at the end of his 17 years at NBC Sports, why he never asked permission before speaking at the March for Life, and what the network told him afterward. He also says plainly what he does and does not know about why the run ended. Along the way he tells the stories that made him one of the most respected coaches in NFL history. The sign that hung in his locker room for 13 years. The offer he made every new player, to trade anyone who needed to be screamed at, and the fact that in 13 years nobody took it. What Chuck Noll and Dan Rooney told him as a 21-year-old rookie in Pittsburgh that became his entire coaching philosophy. Warrick Dunn winning Rookie of the Year while raising three teenage siblings. Peyton Manning checking the 14-day forecast before the Super Bowl. And what Warren Sapp did in the locker room the first game after Dungy was fired. Plus: why he was cut from the Pro Football Hall of Fame voting committee, what he will and will not say about the Bill Belichick vote, All Pro Dad after almost 30 years, twelve children with nine adopted, and why he will not run for office. Tony Dungy, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Indianapolis Colts, and a legacy built on how you do things. The Sage Steele Show. New episodes every week. Emily Austin Held A Hostile Campus For Six Hours | Sage Steele Show EP 126

Emily Austin is 25 years old, hosts her own sports show, judged Miss Universe, and after October 7th she says she lost nearly every brand deal she had. On this episode of the Sage Steele Show she tells me what happened the day after the attack, why she thinks the adults are the problem and not her generation, what Bobby Kennedy Jr. told her over dinner about who knew about the Holocaust, and what her grandfather learned in Bulgaria about his own neighbor. She also gets into the campus panel where protesters pulled keffiyehs and drums out of their backpacks, the six hours she spent handing them the microphone, why she argues against a two state solution, what Zionism actually means to her, and the Saudi man who hated Jews and is now one of her closest friends. Then the conversation turns to work. Emily explains why Miss Universe, Puma, and Sports Illustrated all stopped calling, what a network executive told her agent about how she voted, what the networks quietly edit out of postgame interviews, and why she thinks men in sports media stayed silent. She closes with the story of her mother's ultimatum, the night Jim Gray showed her a pile of a hundred rejection letters, and the one yes that started her career. Bruce Pearl joins Sage Steele for ninety minutes on the fall almost nobody remembers correctly. In 2011 he was fired at Tennessee after admitting he lied to the NCAA. He lost an $11 million contract, went through a divorce, and took a job putting product into convenience stores while doing overnight radio. He tells Sage what his daughter Leah said to him during that stretch, and why he says it meant more than any championship. Eleven years later he retired as the winningest coach in Auburn basketball history and handed the program to his own son. The second half goes wider. What Actually Changed Jillian Michaels' Mind About The Left | Sage Steele Show EP 124

Sage Steele sits down with fitness icon Jillian Michaels for a wide-ranging conversation that starts where her career began: health and fitness. Jillian explains why the explosion of online fitness advice has made it harder, not easier, to know what actually works, and gives her honest, nuanced take on the rise of GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and why she only cautiously recommends them to close friends under very specific circumstances. She breaks down practical, affordable grocery guidance using the Clean 15 and Dirty Dozen lists, and shares the personal story behind her own transformation, from a childhood shaped by her parents' divorce and food as a coping mechanism, to her mother enrolling her in martial arts at 12, the decision that changed the course of her life. Jillian and Sage also touch on how public conversations have grown more difficult and personal in recent years. Byron Donalds: Why Florida Got So Expensive

Sage Steele calls in for an in-depth conversation with Congressman Byron Donalds, currently running for Florida's next governor, just 49 days before election day. Byron opens up about growing up poor in Brooklyn, the sacrifices his mother made to keep him in school even while the family relied on food stamps, and the moment at 20 years old, after being arrested a second time, that he says saved his life: looking himself in the mirror and deciding to change. He shares how his now-wife Erica brought him to church, how he gave his life to Christ at 21, and what he tells his three sons about the mistakes he made as a young man. Byron and Sage also discuss what it means to be a black conservative in today's political climate, his affordability plan for Florida's rising insurance, housing, and healthcare costs, his approach to AI data centers, and his vision for the state if elected. Colonel Allen West Remembers 9/11, 25 Years Later

Sage Steele sits down with Colonel Allen West, combat veteran, former congressman, and one of the most principled leaders in America, for a powerful conversation on the 25th anniversary of September 11th. West takes us back to that morning, from watching the second tower fall in a Marine operations center, to the aircraft striking the Pentagon wing where a close friend survived, to driving home under a silent sky with no aircraft and knowing this was the Pearl Harbor of his generation. He shares what it meant to lead nearly 500 soldiers into Iraq when only two of them had ever seen combat, the moment he told a frightened young soldier that his own greatest fear was letting his men down, and the interrogation decision that ended his military career because protecting his troops mattered more to him than his own rank. West also reflects on faith, his father's charge to always take care of his troops, the family military legacy he shares with Sage, and why he still believes America's greatest days are ahead. How an Amish Grandma Built a Pretzel Empire | The Sage Steele Show EP 121

Sage Steele sits down with Anne Beiler, the founder of Auntie Anne's Pretzels, for the remarkable story behind one of the most beloved brands in America. Raised Amish with an eighth-grade education and married at 19, Anne never dreamed of building a business, yet what began as a single farmers-market stand in Pennsylvania, started with $6,000 from her father, grew into roughly 2,100 stores across 28 countries. Anne tells Sage how she priced her very first franchise on nothing but common sense, why she almost took the now-famous pretzel off the menu, and the one-in-a-million kitchen accident that gave Auntie Anne's its unmistakable smell. Along the way she shares the faith that carried her through profound personal hardship and the belief she lives by today, that life is hard and God is good. How Caliendo Builds a Voice From Scratch | Sage Steele Show EP 120

Sage Steele sits down with legendary impressionist and comedian Frank Caliendo for two hours of laughs, stories, and dead-on impressions. Frank breaks down how he actually builds a voice from scratch, starting with Muppet voices and working his way to John Madden, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Charles Barkley, Morgan Freeman, and Patrick Mahomes, and reveals the "pizza slice" face theory behind every character. He tells the story he kept secret for 20 years about John Madden wanting to sue him and the Hall of Famer who refused to go along with it, what really happened the day he dressed as Trump inside Trump Tower, and how his Richard Sherman parody took over an entire Super Bowl. Sage and Frank reminisce about the ESPN and Fox heyday, from Mike and Mike to the 30 for 30, and Frank gets honest about fame, family, why he has never had a drink in his life, and the coaching mistake he owned up to in front of a team of kids.
