    How'd We Get Here: Carla Williams, UVA Basketball and Tony Bennett

    Preston from The Sabre welcomes back David Teel from The Virginian-Pilot to talk about the latest in UVA athletics. First, David talks about his breaking news that UVA Director of Athletics Carla Williams has signed a 5-year extension after months of speculation. Preston and David break down a unique couple of months for Williams, what her extension means for UVA going forward and if she was ever close to leaving Virginia. Then Preston and David recap a fourth-straight loss for Ron Sanchez and the Cavaliers, this time in a late night buzzer-beater to SMU. They discuss the late game drama, Isaac McKneely's poor performance and Blake Buchanan's stock rising. Finally, Preston asks the question how did UVA basketball get to this point from hoisting the NCAA Championship in 2019 to being at risk of missing the ACC Tournament and David gives his thoughts. They also discuss the recent news that Tony Bennett will be honored in February and the timing of the ceremony as well as if Bennett's legacy is tarnished by his sudden departure.

    UVA Strikes Big in Portal: O-Line Transfer Tyshawn Wyatt Joins

    Preston welcomes one of Virginia's newest transfer portal pickups on in offensive lineman Tyshawn Wyatt with players on Grounds now for the start of class and winter workouts. The former JMU standout talks about his decision to enter the portal and what lead to his decision to choose UVA, his relationship with Coach Terry Heffernan and offensive coordinator Des Kitchings and his goals for the upcoming season with the Cavaliers. Tyshawn also discusses a suddenly deep UVA offensive line room, new quarterback Chandler Morris recruiting Wyatt and where Wyatt will play for Virginia. Later Preston discusses the latest splash from Tony Elliott and staff in the portal in former Louisville offensive tackle Monroe Mills, the first 4-star transfer for the Cavaliers.

    After a rough start to Virginia's California road trip, Preston is joined by Mike Barber to take stock of where the Cavaliers stand during their worst start to a season since 2008-09. First, Preston and Mike recap a late night at Cal where UVA saw their second half struggles continue and they discuss the reason for those post-halftime meltdowns. Mike also explains the reasons behind Isaac McKneely's struggles this season after the guard's worst game since his freshman season.     What's the Deal with ACC Basketball?: The Athletic's Brendan Marks Joins

    With the calendar flipping to 2025, ACC basketball is fully underway now so The Sabre's Preston Willett welcomes on Brendan Marks, a college basketball writer for The Athletic, to break down the conference and where Virginia stands. First, Preston and Brendan discuss the state of ACC basketball and how it got to such a low point from the conference's focus on football to the loss of legendary coaches. The guys try to rank who is the best coach in the ACC currently and also guess how many ACC teams will hear their names on Selection Sunday. Later, Brendan gives his thoughts (both positive and negative) about UVA basketball in the post-Tony Bennett era. Brendan shares his thoughts on Elijah Saunders, the current UVA roster and what's wrong with former 5-star recruit TJ Power. Then we rate Virginia's chances of making the NCAA Tournament and discuss the next steps for UVA basketball after this season.     State of the Program: UVA Football

    Just in time for Christmas, a special State of the Program covering UVA football on the Hoos On Podcast. Host Preston Willett from The Sabre is joined by Brad Franklin from Cavs Corner and former All-ACC safety with the Cavaliers Tony Covington to take stock of where Virginia football is following a 5-7 season in year three under Tony Elliott. The guys start by taking a temperature check of the program following a disappointing end to the season in Blacksburg, but a promising few weeks in the transfer portal. Then they cover Virginia's level of buy-in to football with recent NIL donations, academic challenges and recruiting. Also taking stock of where the roster is with a few exciting additions and some key departures. Finally Preston, Brad and Cov hand out grades for the offense, defense, special teams and Tony Elliott for the year and then talk about expectations for the program moving into next season.

    Into the Portal: A UVA Transfer Update and Memphis Recap

    Preston from The Sabre welcomes back Jacquie Franciulli from 247 Sports to recap Virginia's close loss to Memphis and where UVA football stands in the transfer portal nearly two weeks in. First, Preston and Jacquie give their BIG takes following the loss to Memphis and whether there are any moral victories to take away. Plus breaking down key performances from Taine Murray and Anthony Robinson, as well as what happened on the technical foul call on Dai Dai Ames. Later Jacquie takes us through the transfer portal haul UVA already has, including a couple new commitments. Then Preston and Jacquie rank Virginia's biggest remaining needs left to target in the portal (offensive line, of course). Finally, Jacquie gives her early grade for Tony Elliott's transfer class.
