How to Be Happy Again: Stop Waiting for Something to Go Wrong

Why is it so hard to be happy when life is finally going well? Sometimes the problem isn't that your life is bad. You've simply spent so much time dealing with stress, grief, anxiety, overthinking, uncertainty, and survival mode that you've forgotten how to enjoy peace. In this episode of Grit On The Rocks, David Diaz explores how to be happy again, stop worrying about the future, overcome fear and guilt, practice gratitude, live in the present, and find peace even when life isn't perfect. David shares the deeply personal story of moving from Puerto Rico to New York and beginning a new chapter of his life. He was newly married, starting a new job, living in a new city, and finally feeling hopeful about the future after experiencing tremendous grief. Then he learned that his mother had cancer. Suddenly, happiness and heartbreak existed at the same time. That experience taught him a lesson he carries to this day: Two things can be true at the same time. You can be grieving and grateful. You can be worried and hopeful. You can support someone who is hurting without destroying yourself in the process. You can experience pain and still recognize God's blessings. And you do not have to feel guilty for enjoying the good things happening in your life simply because something else hurts. Through personal storytelling, practical life lessons, personal growth, faith, biblical wisdom, emotional healing, gratitude, mindset, and self-improvement, this conversation challenges you to stop living as though something bad is always around the corner. Ecclesiastes reminds us that there is a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. Life doesn't always separate those seasons for us. Sometimes they happen at the same time. If you've been struggling with anxiety, overthinking, survival mode, fear of the future, grief, happiness, finding purpose, enjoying life, or simply learning how to live in the moment again, this conversation is for you. BOOK ANNOUNCEMENT I'm also excited to announce my upcoming book: THE WEIGHT WORTH CARRYING A Memoir of Resilience, Faith, and Rebuilding a Life Worth Leading Releasing August 28, 2026 on Amazon. This book is about pain, purpose, faith, fatherhood, responsibility, resilience, and rebuilding your life when things don't go according to plan. Because your past may explain you, but it does not get the final vote. Follow The Weight Worth Carrying on Facebook and Instagram for book updates, excerpts, behind-the-scenes content, launch announcements, and more as we count down to August 28. And remember: Don't spend so much time worrying about what could go wrong tomorrow that you completely miss what's going right today. Sometimes happiness isn't the absence of pain. Sometimes happiness is having the courage to recognize what is still good while something hurts. Grit On The Rocks explores life, faith, relationships, fatherhood, personal growth, leadership, discipline, purpose, resilience, and the uncomfortable truths that help us become better human beings.
