048: Psychotherapy, Soul & Intuition with Dr. Amy Robbins

What happens when traditional therapy makes room for intuition, energy, and the soul? In this episode of FEAR UNZIPPED®, Sandi Serling sits down with clinical psychologist Dr. Amy Robbins to explore the intersection of psychology, spirituality, grief, and intuition. Amy shares how the sudden death of her aunt triggered years of anxiety, but also opened the door to profound experiences that changed how she understood life, death, and emotional healing. Amy explains why spiritual practices should complement, not replace, psychological care. Together, she and Sandi discuss how to distinguish intuition from anxiety, the dangers of spiritual bypassing, the ethical use of intuitive information in therapy, and how grounding practices can help us remain stable when the world feels chaotic. Our Guest Dr. Amy Robbins is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice for almost 20 years and the Director of Mental Health at BIÂN (Be-on), a holistic wellness club in Chicago. Dr. Robbins has experience in both traditional and energy psychotherapy and spiritual intuition. After the unexpected death of her aunt at a young age and a spiritually transformative experience with "the other side," Dr. Robbins began a long journey into spirituality that has paralleled her clinical psychology work. Dr. Robbins opened up to share her experiences through her podcast, Life, Death, and the Space Between, where she provides an ever-growing library of resources to explore the complex synergy between the psychological and spiritual – empowering you to know your true self and live a more fulfilling, connected life. Now, she is excited to bring together her psychological and spiritual work in what is her new groundbreaking course: Spiritually Informed Therapy for mental health clinicians. Drawing on two decades of clinical experience, Dr. Robbins offers evidence-informed approaches that integrate spiritual dimensions into therapeutic practice while maintaining professional ethical standards. Her work provides clinicians with practical frameworks for addressing clients' spiritual concerns and existential questions within the therapeutic relationship. In this episode, you’ll learnHow grief and intuitive experiences transformed Amy’s relationship with anxietyHow spiritually informed therapy expands traditional approaches to emotional healingHow to distinguish quiet intuitive knowing from emotionally charged fear and anxietyWhy spiritual beliefs should support, rather than replace, the process of feeling griefPractical ways to stabilize your energy during chaotic or uncertain times Resources from this Episode Dr. Amy Robbins Website: http://www.dramyrobbins.comYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@dramyrobbins/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dramyrobbins/Host: Life, Death and the Space Between Podcast Sandi Serling Website: http://www.fearunzipped.comYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@fearunzippedInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/fearunzipped/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61565896484203LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sandi-serling-1804aab/ Receive a FREE guide from Sandi and FEAR UNZIPPED®, created to help you open your intuitive channel and begin connecting with the unseen support that surrounds you. https://fearunzipped.com/meet-your-guides IM8 - GET 10% off your first order: https://www.im8health.com/UNZIPPED10 Follow and Review: We’d love for you to follow us if you haven’t yet. 047: Indigenous Healer Asha Frost I You Are the Medicine

In this episode, Indigenous healer Asha Frost sets the tone for a powerful conversation about sensitivity, illness, ancestry, and spiritual medicine. We learn how Asha’s childhood as a highly sensitive seer, her lupus diagnosis at seventeen, and her introduction to homeopathy led her to energy medicine and her role as an Indigenous Medicine Woman and bestselling author of You Are the Medicine and multiple oracle decks. She and Sandi explore generational and past life trauma, autoimmune illness, and the weight of carrying collective pain, while also naming the shame that can arise in wellness spaces. Asha shares how she navigates chronic pain, boundaries, cultural appropriation of Indigenous ceremony, and the radical importance of rest, particularly for bodies living with intergenerational trauma. Throughout, we are reminded that our tears are sacred, that we belong to the land, and that we ourselves are the medicine. Listeners come away with heartfelt encouragement to honor their sensitivity, protect their energy, and practice self-compassion daily as they move through everyday life. 046: Your Fears Are Not from This Lifetime with Ainslie MacLeod

Guided by the idea that our deepest fears often began in other lifetimes, this episode invites us to rethink where our anxiety truly comes from. We speak with internationally acclaimed past-life psychic and spiritual teacher Ainslie MacLeod, whose work explores how past lives shape our personality, beliefs, talents, and lifelong fears. We hear Ainslie’s journey from atheist and skeptic to psychic. He explains how soul experience across many lifetimes influences empathy, political and social worldviews, and even our comfort with visibility and public speaking. Sandi and Ainslie also talk about what it means to feel guided, why some of us fear human life more than the spirit world, and how uncovering past-life trauma can release present-day anxiety. Listeners can expect practical shifts in perspective to understand their fear as part of a larger soul story and to feel less alone in their struggles. In this episode, you will hear: Why core fears often originate in past-life trauma, not just childhoodOld soul vs young soul perspectives on empathy, politics, and connectionCommon past-life roots of public speaking anxiety, rejection, and persecutionUsing community, creativity, and leadership to heal fear of rejectionBalancing mind, body, and spirit to move through fear more quickly and confidently Resources from this Episode Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ainsliemmacleod/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ainslie_macleod/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/Ainsliemacleodpsychicguide Website: https://ainsliemacleod.com www.fearunzipped.com Follow and Review: We’d love for you to follow us if you haven’t yet. 045: Chronic Illness & Courage to Start Over I David Zimmerman

A near-fatal health crisis becomes the catalyst for a total life reset for our guest, David Zimmerman, who also happens to be Sandi’s son. Listen to his journey from sensitive, anxious kid to high-performing tech product manager, and finally to founder of a purpose-driven olive oil brand, Zimms Organics. We hear how David’s sudden internal bleeding, Crohn’s diagnosis, and repeated hospitalizations collided with a high-stress consulting career and a broken medical system. He shares the fear he hid, the identity loss that comes with chronic illness, and the moment he decided he could not stay on the same path. David walks us through how research, lab work, and a daily ritual with high polyphenol olive oil helped reduce his inflammation and rebuild trust with his body. We explore the role of meditation, spirituality, and intuition in healing, plus what it really took to walk away from a prestigious job, create an organic olive oil brand, and eventually rebrand it to Zimms Organics by making his own story the heart of it. After leaving his corporate job, David dove back into his creative side, writing music and spoken-word poetry while building Zimms Organics. That freed up mental space and lit something up. He released his first full-length album shortly after, a mix of spoken-word poetry and hip-hop called HORIZONS. Listeners learn about self-advocacy, listening to their gut, and finding meaning in the unknown. In this episode, you will hear: Childhood sensitivity, anxiety, and learning to build emotional resilienceThe role of self-advocacy, second opinions, and questioning “one size fits all” treatmentDiscovering high polyphenol olive oil, lab testing, and data-driven healing experimentsMeditation, spirituality, and intuition as tools for managing fear and stressLeaving a prestigious consulting career to build Zimms Organics around his healing journeyRedefining success through health, service, creative expression, and freedom of time Resources from this Episode Website: https://zimmsorganics.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/zimmsorganics/Music: https://www.dzimm.coPersonal Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dzimm333/Discount code for 20% off Zimms Organics: UNZIPPED20www.fearunzipped.com Follow and Review: We’d love for you to follow us if you haven’t yet. 044: What Prison Taught About Fear, Safety & Freedom | Oneika Mays

From the first breath to the echoes of Rikers Island, this conversation with Oneika Mays invites us to reconsider what safety, love, and freedom really mean. We follow Oneika’s journey from feeling like the “odd one out” as a queer Black woman to becoming a mindfulness and yoga teacher whose work is rooted in Buddhist and yogic teachings. She shares how a profound personal loss and the collapse of her carefully constructed life pushed her toward yoga, where a single cue from a teacher cracked her open and set her on a path back to her curious, unafraid younger self. We explore what it actually means to fall in love with ourselves. Oneika explains how breath creates a felt sense of fullness that does not depend on relationships, achievements, or external validation. She reframes self-love as the capacity to hold our shame, scars, and past choices alongside that fullness, instead of trying to erase them. Oneika describes the relentless noise, chaos, and unsafety, and how she learned to be her own safe place so she could model that possibility for others. Listeners learn practical, grounded perspectives on awareness, nervous system regulation, and how to build inner safety when the outside world is anything but. In this episode, you will hear: Learning to fall in love with ourselves through breath, fullness, and embodiment How awareness and inner safety can coexist with anxiety, fear, and discomfort Teaching mindfulness and yoga at Rikers Island inside constant noise and chaos Transformational stories of incarcerated women finding agency and calm Using loving kindness and metta to soften hatred, work with triggers, and reclaim power Resources from this Episode Website: https://www.oneikamays.com/Social media:https://www.instagram.com/oneikamays/?hl=enhttps://www.facebook.com/omays/https://www.linkedin.com/in/oneikamays/https://www.youtube.com/oneikamaysLink to purchase book:https://www.amazon.com/Sit-Me-Journey-Mindfulness-Meditation/dp/0063435551https://bookshop.org/p/books/sit-with-me-a-no-bs-journey-to-mindfulness-and-meditation-oneika-mays/f62ea285a58240d7https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sit-with-Me-A-No-Bs-Journey-to-Mindfulness-and-Meditation-Paperback-9780063435551/16743158405https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/sit-with-me-oneika-mays/1147525526www.fearunzipped.com Follow and Review: We’d love for you to follow us if you haven’t yet. 041: When Your Life Story Changes Overnight | Kimberly Warner

When a life story shifts overnight, it can unravel everything we thought we knew, including our identity, family, and even our sense of stability. In this conversation, we explore how Kimberly Warner navigates that kind of upheaval and what it reveals about healing, truth, and living fully. We follow Kimberly’s journey from a childhood shaped by hidden anxiety and perfectionism to a series of life-altering discoveries in adulthood. A DNA test reveals that the father who raised her was not her biological parent, which leads to an honest discussion about how these revelations intersect with Kimberly’s chronic illness. This leads to a conversation on the cost of constantly trying to “fix” ourselves and the freedom that comes with letting go. What emerges is a moving exploration of identity, surrender, and the idea that healing doesn’t mean becoming whole. Rather, it means learning to live meaningfully within the unknown. Listen in to learn how brokenness can open the door to connection, purpose, and unexpected peace.
