In Praise of Houseflies: Finding Grace in Life’s Everyday Quandaries with Elise Tegegne

What if some of the moments we are quickest to dismiss, complain about, or wish away are actually inviting us to pay closer attention? In this episode of Sisters on Purpose, we welcome author Elise Tegegne for a conversation about finding redemptive glimmers in the ordinary challenges of life. Drawing from her book, In Praise of Houseflies: Meditations on the Gifts in Everyday Quandaries, Elise reflects on experiences ranging from canceled flights to sleepless nights and the surprising lessons hidden within them. Because life doesn’t always teach us through the big moments. Sometimes it is the inconvenience. The interruption. The thing that didn’t go according to plan. Even the proverbial housefly that simply will not leave us alone. Together, we talk about slowing down long enough to notice what our everyday quandaries might be teaching us and how even frustrating or uncomfortable moments can become places where hope, joy, redemption, and grace quietly emerge. Maybe the invitation isn’t always to escape the inconvenience. Maybe sometimes it is to ask, What can I notice here that I would have missed otherwise? Join us for a thoughtful conversation about paying attention, remaining open to God’s work in unexpected places, and learning to recognize the abundant graces blossoming right in the middle of ordinary life. About the Book: In Praise of Houseflies: Meditations on the Gifts in Everyday Quandaries is published by Calla Press and is available through Calla Press, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Eighth Day Books, Hearts & Minds, Nooks, Landmark Booksellers, and wherever books are sold. www.elisetegegne.com

Letting Go: Finding Peace When Life Doesn’t Unfold the Way We Imagined

We all carry expectations. Some are about the big things: the life we thought we’d have, the relationships we hoped would look different, the prayers we expected to be answered another way. Others are found in the ordinary moments, when a conversation doesn’t go as planned, a season changes before we’re ready, or someone we love makes choices we cannot control. The challenge isn’t always what happened. Sometimes it’s learning to let go of how we thought it should have happened. In this episode, we talk about the courage it takes to release our expectations without releasing our faith. Letting go isn’t giving up. It’s choosing to trust God when His plans look different than our own. It’s making peace with what we cannot control while remaining hopeful for what He is still doing. As we loosen our grip on our own understanding, we often discover the freedom, joy, and peace that have been waiting on the other side of surrender. Scripture: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”  Proverbs 3:5–6 Join us as we encourage one another to release what we were never meant to carry, embrace the beauty of the present moment, and trust that even when life unfolds differently than we imagined, God is still faithfully writing our story.   Join us on this journey as we navigate life together, embracing every moment with faith and determination. Through engaging conversations, we share practical insights and personal anecdotes that will inspire and empower you to live a life with hope and intention. Midyear: Reflecting on How Far You’ve Come and Where You’re Headed

The middle of the year offers a gift we don’t often give ourselves, the opportunity to pause. In this episode of Sisters on Purpose, we’re taking time to reflect on the journey so far. We’ll share the joys we’ve celebrated, the challenges we’ve faced, the lessons we’ve learned, and the ways God has faithfully met us in every season. Reflection isn’t about living in the past. It’s about recognizing God’s hand in our story so we can step into what’s next with greater wisdom, gratitude, and hope. Together, we’ll talk about celebrating progress over perfection, extending ourselves grace for the things that didn’t go as planned, and looking ahead with anticipation instead of pressure. No matter what the first half of your year has looked like, there is still purpose in this season, and God is not finished writing your story. Scripture: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” Isaiah 43:18–19 As we enter the second half of the year, may we release what belongs behind us, embrace the new things God is doing, and move forward together with faith, purpose, and expectancy. Thank you for joining us on Sisters on Purpose. If this conversation encouraged you, we’d love for you to subscribe, leave a review, and share this episode with a sister or friend who could use a little hope as she steps into the season ahead.

When Gratitude Feels Hard: Remembering the Good

When life feels heavy, gratitude can be one of the hardest choices we make. Disappointment, uncertainty, grief, and unmet expectations can cloud our perspective and make it difficult to see the blessings that still surround us. In this episode of the Sisters on Purpose Podcast, we explore what it means to practice gratitude when it doesn’t come naturally. Drawing from Psalm 84, we reflect on the journey through life’s valleys and the importance of remembering God’s faithfulness in seasons past. Sometimes gratitude begins not with what we see today, but with remembering the good that God has already done. We discuss how gratitude and sorrow can coexist, why recalling God’s provision strengthens our faith, and how an eternal perspective helps us find hope even in challenging circumstances. The Valley of Baca reminds us that difficult places are not meant to be permanent destinations. As we continue walking with God, He can transform places of weeping into springs of refreshment. If gratitude feels hard in your current season, this conversation is an invitation to pause, reflect, and remember the goodness of God that has carried you this far. Scripture Anchor: “Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs…” — Psalm 84:5-6 Join us as we discuss how remembering the good can help us find gratitude, even in life’s most difficult seasons.

Adapting to Change: Finding Joy in Every Season

Life is filled with seasons. Some arrive with excitement and anticipation, while others catch us off guard and require us to let go of what was familiar. Whether you’re stepping into a new chapter, closing a meaningful one, or finding yourself somewhere in between, change often brings a mix of emotions. In this episode of Sisters on Purpose, we talk about what it means to adapt to life’s changing seasons with grace, faith, and hope. We discuss the importance of allowing ourselves to feel the emotions that naturally come with transition while resisting the temptation to become stuck in them. The beauty of one season doesn’t diminish the possibilities of the next. In fact, the joy, lessons, relationships, and memories from the chapter behind us can become the foundation for anticipation and excitement about what lies ahead. God is present in every season, and often the new growth He has planned begins in the moments when we are willing to embrace change rather than resist it. Join us as we share personal reflections on navigating transitions, trusting God’s timing, and discovering the gifts that can be found in every new beginning. Scripture: “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” — Isaiah 43:19 Whether you’re entering a season of growth, loss, celebration, uncertainty, or renewal, we hope this conversation encourages you to look forward with faith, embrace the present with gratitude, and trust that God is faithfully guiding every step of your journey.   Join us on this journey as we navigate life together, embracing every moment with faith and determination. Ties That Bind Us: Anchored in Faith, Sustained by Relationship

In this episode of the Sisters On Purpose Podcast, we explore the ties that truly bind us together—faith, family, friendship, and intentional community. In a world that often celebrates independence and self-sufficiency, we are reminded that we were never meant to walk through life alone. Through honest conversation and reflection, we discuss the importance of anchoring ourselves in relationships that are rooted in love, trust, grace, and shared faith. We share how intentional connection, showing up for one another through every season, and keeping God at the center has sustained our sisterhood and strengthened our relationships over the years. This episode is a reminder that meaningful community does not happen by accident. It is nurtured through commitment, vulnerability, forgiveness, encouragement, and the willingness to stay connected even when life becomes busy or difficult. Anchored in Ecclesiastes 4:9–10: “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” Whether you are longing for deeper connection, rebuilding relationships, or simply grateful for the people God has placed in your life, this conversation will encourage you to lean into the beauty and strength of doing life together. Because at the end of the day, the ties that bind us together are often the very things that carry us through. Join us on this journey as we navigate life together, embracing every moment with faith and determination. Trusting God with the Unknown Future

What do you do when the future feels uncertain, fragile, or completely out of your control? In this episode of Sisters on Purpose, we have an honest conversation about trusting God in seasons where clarity feels absent and the road ahead feels unknown. Whether you are walking through change, loss, waiting, transition, health struggles, family concerns, or simply carrying quiet fear about what comes next, this episode is a reminder that God’s presence is not dependent on your certainty. We often want answers before obedience. Control before surrender. Proof before trust.  But faith rarely works that way. Together, the sisters explore the emotional weight of uncertainty, the temptation to live in “what if” thinking, and how fear can quietly rob us of peace, purpose, and joy in the present moment. Through scripture, personal reflection, encouragement, and real conversation, this episode points listeners back to the steady character of God even when life feels unstable. In this episode, we discuss: ✔ Why uncertainty can create fear, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion ✔ The difference between wisdom and trying to control everything ✔ How to trust God when prayers seem unanswered ✔ Why courage is often required before clarity comes ✔ The importance of staying rooted in faith during difficult seasons ✔ Practical ways to remain emotionally and spiritually grounded ✔ How God’s presence gives peace even when outcomes remain unknown This episode is for the woman who feels tired from carrying tomorrow before it arrives. It is for the sister trying to stay faithful while navigating unanswered questions. And it is for anyone needing the reminder that God is already present in the future you are worried about. Scripture Focus “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5  Join us on this journey as we navigate life together, embracing every moment with faith and determination. Through engaging conversations, we share practical insights and personal anecdotes that will inspire and empower you to live a life with hope and intention.
