I listened to the entire Halderson case episode, and the pacing made it difficult to get into. The introduction lasted around 11 minutes, and by about the 16-minute mark, the conversation had already drifted away from the case again. I kept listening because I wanted to give the hosts and their dynamic a fair chance.
Unfortunately, the overall tone felt extremely unserious at times, especially considering the subject matter. If I were a family member of someone involved in this case, I would have been uncomfortable hearing some of the joking and casual commentary surrounding it. Several important details of the case also seemed to be left out, so I didn’t feel like I walked away with a particularly complete understanding of the story.
The audio was another issue. There were multiple points where it sounded like the audio was echoing, repeating, or overlapping, which became pretty distracting. I initially assumed this might be a newer podcast that was still working through some early production issues, so I was willing to give them some grace, but it looks like the show has actually been running for several years.
Overall, this could be enjoyable if you’re looking for a very casual true-crime podcast with a lot of banter and you enjoy the hosts’ personalities and personal tangents. But if you’re listening primarily for a focused, well-researched retelling of a case with a more serious approach, this probably wouldn’t be my recommendation.
