The Sirloin Stockade Massacre: Oklahoma’s Night of Terror

Send us Fan Mail This week on All the Damn Crime, we're going back to Oklahoma in 1978 for one of the state's most infamous murder cases: the Sirloin Stockade murders. Roger Dale Stafford, his wife Verna, and his brother Harold robbed a Sirloin Stockade in Oklahoma City and murdered six employees as the restaurant was closing for the night. But that wasn't the beginning of the story. Just weeks earlier, the Lorenz family had been murdered after stopping to help a stranded motorist on Interstate 35. Nine people were dead. And for months, investigators didn't know the two crimes were connected. We break down what happened, how investigators finally connected the cases, the Stafford family, and the evidence that brought the killers to justice. And we'll talk about the case's renewed attention in 2026 after Verna Stafford, the last surviving perpetrator, sought parole. This is one of those Oklahoma cases that sounds almost unbelievable—until you realize it actually happened. Mica died in April 2024 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but her death came after a turbulent marriage and separation from pastor John-Paul Miller. Friends and family interviewed in the documentary describe allegations of controlling and abusive behavior, while prosecutors have separately accused John-Paul of cyberstalking Mica before her death. A Deadly Family Dinner and Oregon's Quintuple Homicide

Send us Fan Mail This week on All the Damn Crime, we're covering two breaking stories involving devastating acts of violence against families. First, we head to Montana, where 44-year-old Alan Michael Smith allegedly opened fire on his own family during a gathering near Billings, killing eight relatives—including four children—before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Smith had reportedly been asked to leave his parents' home weeks earlier, but authorities have not established that as a motive.  Then we turn to Oregon, where authorities say Benjamin Parker allegedly killed his girlfriend, members of her family, and friends in a quintuple homicide before fleeing to Washington, where he was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators say Parker had recently been involved in a serious fight with his girlfriend and had been told to leave the property.  And because no episode of All the Damn Crime stays in one lane, we'll also discuss some true crime-adjacent stories, including the horrific crimes of Ronald Gene Simmons and the bizarre and infamous Enumclaw horse case.  Alan Michael Smith, Alan Smith Montana, Montana family massacre, Billings Montana shooting, Montana mass shooting 2026, Montana family shooting, Montana family murders, White Star Circle shooting, Alan Smith shooting, Montana mass murder, eight family members killed, four children killed Montana, family massacre, family annihilator, Ronald Gene Simmons, Ronald Gene Simmons murders, Ronald Gene Simmons family massacre, Arkansas family massacre, Ronald Simmons Christmas massacre, Enumclaw horse case, Enumclaw Washington, Enumclaw incident, Mr Hands case, Benjamin Parker, Benjamin Parker Oregon, Oregon quintuple homicide, Oregon family murders, Forest Grove Oregon shooting, Stella Kimsey, true crime podcast, All the Damn Crime

The Happiest Littlest Hobo on Death Row: The Tragic Story of Joe Arridy

Send us Fan Mail Joe Arridy was 23 years old when Colorado executed him for a murder he almost certainly did not commit. Arridy had an intellectual disability and was highly suggestible. Police obtained a confession implicating him in the rape and murder of 15-year-old Dorothy Drain, but evidence later showed serious problems with the confession and with the prosecution's case.  Even as his execution approached, Arridy's attorneys fought desperately to stop it. He received nine stays of execution before finally being killed in the gas chamber on January 6, 1939. More than seven decades later, he was pardoned by the governor of Colorado. It's a heartbreaking story about false confessions, the death penalty, and what happens when the justice system gets it catastrophically wrong. The Godfather of Our Collective True Crime Obsession: The Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe

Send us Fan Mail Edgar Allan Poe spent his career writing about murder, madness, mysterious deaths, and detectives searching for answers. Then, in 1849, Poe himself became the subject of a mystery no detective has ever solved. He disappeared during a trip to Baltimore and resurfaced days later in a state of severe distress. He was taken to a hospital, where his condition deteriorated. His doctors couldn't establish a clear cause of death, and Poe never provided a coherent explanation of what happened to him. One of the most intriguing theories is cooping, a form of 19th-century election fraud in which people could be kidnapped, intoxicated, beaten, disguised, and forced to vote repeatedly. Poe was found on Election Day near a polling place—a coincidence that has fueled the theory for generations.  Edgar Allan Poe, Edgar Allan Poe death, Edgar Allan Poe murder, who killed Edgar Allan Poe, Poe death mystery, Edgar Allan Poe mystery, Edgar Allan Poe theories, Poe was murdered, Edgar Allan Poe Baltimore, Edgar Allan Poe 1849, Poe final days, Edgar Allan Poe cooping, cooping theory Poe, Poe Election Day, Edgar Allan Poe cause of death, Poe unsolved mystery, Edgar Allan Poe true crime, Edgar Allan Poe conspiracy, mysterious death of Edgar Allan Poe, Edgar Allan Poe missing days, Poe Baltimore mystery, Edgar Allan Poe hospital, John Moran Poe, Gunner's Hall Poe, Edgar Allan Poe death theories, Poe murder theory, Edgar Allan Poe cold case, famous unsolved mysteries, literary mysteries, true crime podcast
