Top Notch True Crime!

Love you ladies - you’re fantastic and my fave true crime listen for over a year now. Just please stop whispering!! The audio volume swings are hard to handle and I feel like I’m missing things 😘
Great personalities but poor research

I’ve listened to the hosts talk about a few cases I was familiar with and while they are engaging, they get a lot details incorrect or leave out information that doesn’t go with their theories. Again, they are great to listen to but you can’t trust that what they present as fact is fact. For the more well known cases, I just don’t understand how they are so inaccurate.
Quality Has Declined But Hopeful!
Oct 1
In the beginning, it seemed like the hosts were aware of the gap in their awareness and the humble-straightforwardness, and demonstrated positive curiosity-driven critical analysis regarding stories we are told (by the accused, yes, but also the reality of flawed investigations/investigators) vs. knowable facts. I was also stoked to have the multicultural element, that in the beginning really did a great job at addressing social issues. I was excited and respected the perspectives. A note: I’ve worked in the intersections of mental health, incarceration, and sociology for over a decade. My work has been required training for lawyers, educators, and law enforcement - so I can vouch for the value and accuracy of my knowledge in these areas. I’ve noticed two things recently - the confident inaccuracies/absence of the fact check fairy (is anyone still fact checking in any meaningful way?) and the sound issues. Many of the cases they cover are based in the US, and I’ve noticed that though they may have visited many times, they are still at times uniformed about many aspects of American culture and history from the broad to the minutiae involving legislation and carceral customs. So when they make bold, sweeping statements about these things, they are often off-base. This is fine, people make mistakes all the time - it’s a human thing! But to be on this platform and giggling/scoffing about an incorrect assumption and not fixing it is cringey and feels misleading. This is alarming, as many people will believe what is being said. If you want to share opinions that are not based upon suitable research, it would be helpful to name that. I know the content of the ads is wtv, but knowing intimately the incredibly negative impact of companies like Better Health that frequently offer subpar therapy and undervalue/mistreat clinicians at the same time, it’s a bit irksome and underscores the appearance that the hosts are not very familiar with the topics they are speaking about. When you lend your voice to helping companies separate folks from their hard-earned money, with something as important and intimate as therapy, it’s kind of concerning. The attempts at capitalizing on people’s fears to sell security also gives the appearance that quality standards are low. Positioning yourself as a friendly while engaging in this behavior feels morally questionable. Even when the core content is going well, I feel accosted by the sudden jumps in volume during some commercials and certain exclamations. “RRRRRRRRENTGANG!!!” ads are a jarring contrast to the majority of the podcast, and it is literally painful when listening to headphones or in the car. I used to LOVE this podcast, it has taken me through years of ups and downs! It’s becoming largely unlistenable. I’m digging through old episodes to get my fix but it’s a bummer to see something I thought was largely on point devolve in such a way. This may feel scathing, I have no ill will and hope that this breakdown will be taken as constructive feedback.
