Dr. Sarah Ferguson is a Gynecologic Oncologist at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (University Health Network), a Professor and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Toronto, and an Associate Scientist at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Ferguson is currently the Head of Research for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for Mount Sinai Hospital/University Health Network. Her clinical and research interests include: improving surgical techniques and patient outcomes, survivorship and supportive care as well as hereditary cancer syndromes in gynecology, in particular Lynch syndrome.

    LANCE Trial: Results of Feasibility Phase with Jose Alejandro Rauh-Hain

    In this episode of the IJGC podcast, Editor-in-Chief Dr. Pedro Ramirez is joined by Dr. Jose Alejandro Rauh-Hain to discuss LANCE Trial: Results of Feasibility Phase. Dr. Rauh-Hain is a Gynecologic Oncologist at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Born in Mexico City, he earned his medical degree from Universidad Panamericana and completed a research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, focusing on preeclampsia biomarkers. He trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Massachusetts General and Brigham and Women's Hospital, followed by a Gynecologic Oncology fellowship at Harvard Medical School. He also holds an MPH from Harvard and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Cancer Outcomes Research. His interests include gynecologic cancer surgery, rare tumor management, and research on reducing disparities in cancer care.

    In this episode of the IJGC podcast, Editor-in-Chief Dr. Pedro Ramirez is joined by Dr. Elizabeth (Betty) Suh-Burgmann to discuss Ovarian cancer risk among older patients with stable adnexal masses. Dr. Elizabeth (Betty) Suh-Burgmann, originally from Boulder, Colorado, earned her Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University and completed her medical degree and residency at the University of California, San Francisco. Following a fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, she joined Kaiser Permanente in 2000. She is the Chair of Gynecologic Oncology for Kaiser Permanente Northern California, which provides care to approximately 4.4 million patients. She is the recipient of the 2022 Sidney Garfield Exceptional Contribution Award for her work establishing a standardized ultrasound ovarian cancer risk assessment system within Kaiser. Her research interests include cancer and precancer of the uterus, borderline tumors of the ovary, ultrasound detection of ovarian cancer and cervical cancer screening.

Ramlogan Sowamber is a trainee at the University of British Columbia in the department of Medical Genetics, working with Dr. David Huntsman on understanding the impacts of opportunistic salpingectomy on ovarian cancer risk reduction from a genomic and molecular perspective. He is interested in understanding how genetics influences the mechanisms of cancer progression using genomic and functional approaches and how therapeutic interventions can be applied to various cancer subtypes.
