July 25 — The Weeping Prophet Begins — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | Jeremiah 1–3 | Resolved to Read

In today's reading from Jeremiah 1:1–3:5, we begin one of the most personal and poignant books of the Old Testament. Jeremiah is often called the "Weeping Prophet" because of the deep grief he carried for his people—a grief that mirrored God's own heart. Called as a young man, Jeremiah is warned that his message will be rejected, yet he is told not to be afraid, for the Lord has put His words in his mouth. These opening chapters confront Judah's shocking unfaithfulness: a people who once walked closely with God have now wandered far from Him, exchanging the fountain of living water for broken cisterns that hold nothing. Yet even as God exposes their wandering, He calls them back with aching love—reminding us that the Lord still grieves over sin, still calls His people to return, and still offers living water to all who will come. July 24 — The Day of the Lord: Mercy, Warning, and a Long-Awaited Reckoning — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | Zephaniah; 2 Chronicles 34 | Resolved to Read

In today's reading from the book of Zephaniah and 2 Chronicles 34:3–7, we encounter one of Scripture's most sobering themes: the Day of the Lord. Far from being a single day to eagerly anticipate, it represents a season of divine reckoning—when God steps in to judge sin and cleanse His people. For the proud and complacent, it is a day of darkness and distress; for the humble who seek the Lord, it holds the promise of restoration and joy. Alongside Zephaniah's warnings, young Josiah begins to purge idolatry from Judah, showing what wholehearted return to God looks like. These chapters remind us that the Day of the Lord should shape how we live today—calling us to repentance, humility, and trust in the One who alone can hide us in the day of His anger.
