E97: The Haunting of the Bell Witch

In the quiet hills of Tennessee, more than two centuries ago, one family began experiencing something they couldn't explain. It started with strange sounds. Unseen footsteps. Knocking in the darkness. And then… a voice. A voice that seemed to come from nowhere. It knew things it shouldn't have known. It could answer questions. It could imitate the voices of the living. And according to those who witnessed it, whatever was haunting the Bell family wasn't afraid of them. It was tormenting them. As word spread, curious visitors began arriving from miles away, hoping to hear the mysterious entity for themselves. But what began as a strange haunting would become something far darker. A story of threats. Death. Unexplained phenomena. And a presence that, according to legend, promised it would return. And years later, people were still telling stories. Still hearing strange noises. Still claiming to encounter something they couldn't explain. So was the Bell Witch a spirit? A hoax? A legend that grew darker with every retelling? Or something that never truly left? Turn off the lights. Lock the doors. And whatever you do… don't answer the voice in the darkness. Because sometimes… the dead don't stay buried. And sometimes… they come back knocking.   . E96: When The Polar Bear Came to Town

Imagine walking home after an all-night Halloween party. It's cold, it's dark, the streets are quiet. You're walking with friends, thinking about getting home, getting warm, and finally going to sleep. Then someone looks behind you and sees a polar bear, not in the distance, not safely behind a fence, running straight towards you. In the remote town of Churchill, Manitoba Known as the polar bear capital of the world, encounters with these massive predators are part of life. But on November 1st, 2013, a routine walk home became a fight for survival. From a nearby house, someone heard the screams. This is a story about a predator, a terrifying encounter, a desperate fight for survival. But more than that, it's a story about an ordinary man who saw a stranger facing death and decided to step between her and the bear. One woman, one polar bear, one snow shovel, and a split-second decision that meant the difference between life and death. This week on Wilderness Bonescapes, we're heading north to Churchill, Manitoba, where the wilderness doesn't always stay in the wilderness. Sometimes it comes walking straight into town . Episode 95: The Headless Valley

Deep in the remote wilderness of Canada’s Northwest Territories lies The Headless Valley. The Nahanni. Officially known as Nahanni National Park Reserve. A place of ancient mountains, boiling hot springs, massive waterfalls, and endless wilderness. But scattered throughout its history are stories that refuse to disappear. Prospectors entered the valley searching for gold and some never came back. Bodies were discovered without their heads. Cabins were found burned to the ground. Men vanished without explanation. And legends began to spread about a valley where something—or someone—was hunting those who dared to enter. But the stories of the Nahanni don't end with missing gold miners. The Dene have passed down stories of a mysterious mountain people who disappeared into the wilderness. Stories of spirits said to scream through the canyons.  Of enormous, hairy beings hiding among the mountains. And of a creature so large and wolf-like. This week on Wilderness Bonescapes, we're heading deep into Canada's Headless Valley. Into a wilderness filled with disappearances, decapitations, death, ancient legends, and creatures said to still be hiding beyond the tree line. Welcome to the Nahanni. . . . E94: Fireside Chat- Bermuda Triangles

There are places in the world where people disappear... Places where ships vanish beneath the waves. Where aircraft never reach their destination. Where hikers enter the wilderness...and never come back out. Some of these places have been given a name. A name that instantly makes you think of mystery. *The Bermuda Triangle.* But what if the Bermuda Triangle isn't the only place like it? What if...there are Bermuda Triangles all over the world? In the Atlantic Ocean, a legendary triangle stretches between Florida, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico — a place forever associated with missing ships, vanished aircraft, and stories of strange phenomena. But on land, the mysteries take a different form. In the mountains of Vermont lies the Bennington Triangle. People disappeared there between 1945 and 1950. Then there's Hoia-Baciu Forest in Transylvania. A place surrounded by stories of strange lights, unexplained sensations, mysterious photographs, and trees twisted into shapes that seem almost unnatural. And deep inside Yosemite National Park lies Tenaya Canyon. The so-called Bermuda Triangle of Yosemite. Some say it's cursed. Others say it's simply one of the most unforgiving environments in Yosemite. But those who have ventured into the canyon have sometimes described something else... A feeling. A presence. Something they couldn't explain. Are these places truly windows into something we don't understand? Energy vortices? Cursed ground? Creatures hiding beyond the trees? Or are we simply looking at dangerous places and trying to make sense of tragedies that don't have easy answers? Because sometimes the most frightening mystery isn't what we know. It's what we can't explain. . E93: Trapped in Devil’s Hole

Imagine standing at the bottom of a canyon so deep that the world above has almost disappeared. Above you, hundreds of feet of sheer granite. Behind you, a river you can no longer climb away from. And ahead of you— a waterfall. You’re exhausted. Your feet are shredded and swollen. Your food is almost gone. You’ve been trapped for days. And the only way out appears to be through the river. This was supposed to be a fishing trip. Two men had gone deep into the Sierra Nevada in search of a stretch of river so remote that almost no one had ever fished it. They found exactly what they were looking for. Crystal-clear water. Beautiful trout. And pools untouched by fishermen. But then they discovered something else. There was no easy way back out. What began as an adventure quickly became a desperate fight against cliffs, freezing water, raging rapids, waterfalls, and their own failing bodies. Getting them out would require one of the most dangerous rescue operations imaginable. Because sometimes… finding a way in is easy. Finding a way out can cost you everything. . Episode 92: SOS- The Bear Outside the Cabin

Imagine being completely alone in the Alaskan wilderness. No cell service. No roads. No neighbors close enough to hear you scream. Just a tiny tin shack surrounded by miles of mountains, rivers, and forest—and somewhere outside... a brown bear. You’ve already survived its attack once. You’ve already watched it overturn your ATV like it was nothing. You’ve already felt the freezing water close around you as your vehicle, your trailer, and your cellphone disappeared beneath the surface. And now you're injured. Exhausted. Trapped. And the bear keeps coming back. Night after night. For an entire week. You have no way to call for help. And eventually, you realize you’re running out of options—and ammunition. Tonight on Wilderness Bonescapes, we're heading deep into the remote wilderness of western Alaska, where one man's routine trip to his mining cabin became a terrifying week-long battle for survival. A brown bear attack. A submerged ATV. A shattered lifeline to the outside world. Sleepless nights trapped inside a flimsy shack. And a rescue that came down to a helicopter crew looking in exactly the right direction... at exactly the right moment. This is the story of Richard Jessee—and the brown bear that wouldn't leave him alone. So turn down the lights. Turn up the volume. And whatever you do don't go into the wilderness alone.. E91:When the Tiger Charges

Deep within the frozen forests of Russia's Far East lies one of the last true wildernesses on Earth. For fourteen years, one wildlife biologist had dedicated his life to protecting the critically endangered Siberian tiger. He had safely captured and released nearly seventy of these elusive predators. He knew their behavior. He understood their instincts. He respected their power. Then one October morning, everything he thought he knew was put to the ultimate test. A routine check of a remote trap line, a low growl echoing through the trees, a 400-pound tiger that wasn't supposed to be able to move, and in the blink of an eye, the hunter became the hunted. What happens when one of nature's most powerful predators charges at thirty miles an hour? This is the incredible true story of a man who came face-to-face with one of the most feared predators on Earth and lived to tell the tale. Join us as we step into the forests of Primorsky Krai, where every shadow could hide an apex predator and one split-second decision meant the difference between life and death. . E90: Surviving Days After A Bear Mauling

Imagine surviving an attack by a mother brown bear and her two cubs, that was so brutal, rescuers assume you're already dead. Now imagine spending seven days crawling through one of the most unforgiving wildernesses on Earth. In the summer of 1908, Captain William "Wabash Bill" Royden stepped onto Alaska's legendary Admiralty Island with one simple goal—bring fresh venison back to his crew. Instead, he walked straight into the path of a mother brown bear protecting her cubs. What followed was a savage mauling that left him with 64 wounds and injuries so horrific that surviving should have been impossible. For the next week, Wabash Bill would battle raging fever, starvation, relentless rain, and the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness. He would survive on berries... a snail... and a fish that seemed to fall from the sky at exactly the moment he needed it most. And just when rescue was finally within sight...hope began to sail away. This is the unbelievable true story of one of the worst bear attacks in Alaskan history—and the man who simply refused to die. This is the story of Wabash Bill.   .
