Tumbleweeds: What to Do When You Feel Spiritually Dry

Tired but wired? grab the free download and stop the night time brain spin. Have you ever felt like you're just being blown through life, reacting to whatever comes your way? In this episode of the Planted On Purpose Podcast, Aurie shares a lesson she learned while traveling through the California desert near Palmdale. As she watched tumbleweeds scattered across the landscape, she couldn't help but notice the difference between a plant with deep roots and one that has become disconnected from its source of life. A tumbleweed doesn't choose its direction. Once its roots are gone, it simply goes wherever the wind takes it. And if we're honest, many of us live the same way when we become disconnected from God. We drift from one responsibility to the next, chasing productivity, approval, or control while feeling spiritually exhausted and emotionally depleted. Aurie shares a personal reflection on a season when she felt spiritually dry and struggled to sense God's presence. Yet even during that difficult season, God was faithfully at work beneath the surface, sustaining her in ways she couldn't yet see. What felt like a wilderness season was actually a season of preparation and growth. Drawing from Isaiah 43:19, "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland," this episode reminds us that God specializes in bringing life to dry places. Even when our circumstances feel barren, He is still creating pathways for renewal, healing, and hope. If you've been feeling burned out, spiritually disconnected, overwhelmed by motherhood, or stuck in a season that seems to have no end, this conversation will encourage you to trust that God is working even when you can't see the evidence yet. The question isn't whether the wilderness exists. The question is whether we'll stay connected to the One who can bring streams into the wasteland. Where does your soul feel dry right now? And what would it look like to trust God to provide refreshment before you can see it? Until next time, stay planted in purpose and walk in the Son. What are you rooted in? In this episode of the Planted On Purpose Podcast, we're exploring a question that has the power to change everything about how we navigate stress, burnout, motherhood, and everyday life. Just like a healthy tree depends on a deep root system to access water and nutrients, we all draw strength from whatever we've chosen as our foundation. The problem is that many of us unknowingly root ourselves in things that can't sustain us. We look to productivity for our worth, seek validation through other people's approval, or measure ourselves against what we see online. These sources may feel secure for a moment, but they leave us exhausted, anxious, and constantly striving for more. Aurie shares a personal reflection about a season when life felt out of balance and how returning to God's truth became the anchor that restored peace, clarity, and direction. When our identity is rooted in Christ instead of circumstances, we can remain steady even when life feels uncertain. Drawing from Colossians 2:7, "Rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught," this episode offers encouragement for Christian moms who are tired of living on an emotional roller coaster and are longing for a stronger spiritual foundation. If you've been feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, or disconnected from God, this conversation will help you identify what you're truly rooted in and inspire you to reconnect with the source that never runs dry. Join us as we discuss faith, identity, spiritual growth, biblical encouragement, and practical ways to stay grounded in God's truth throughout the week. Until next time, stay planted in purpose and walk in the Son. Why Hard Seasons Build Stronger Faith: The Purpose of Resistance

3 secrets to a yell-free morning Coffee Chat LIVE📅 June 26th⏰ 11:00 AM CST💻 Live Online Save Your Spot 🌿 Spots are free, but registration is required. [ Reserve Your Spot ] Tired but wired? grab the free download and stop the night time brain spin. Have you ever wished life could be easier? Have you ever wondered why God allows hard seasons, challenges, and setbacks when all you want is peace? In this episode of the Planted On Purpose Podcast, Aurie Riley shares a fascinating story from a NASA Mars simulation experiment that revealed an unexpected truth about growth. Scientists successfully grew trees inside a controlled environment, but when the trees reached a certain height, they began falling over. The reason? They had never experienced wind. Without resistance, the trees failed to develop the deep roots and strong trunks needed to support long-term growth. The lesson is one every overwhelmed Christian mom needs to hear: the struggles you're facing today may be strengthening you for what lies ahead. Just as wind causes trees to grow stronger root systems, life's challenges often develop the perseverance, character, and resilience we need to weather future storms. While we naturally want to avoid discomfort, hardship often becomes the very thing God uses to deepen our faith, strengthen our character, and anchor us more firmly in Him. Aurie shares personal reflections on navigating difficult seasons, the temptation to avoid pain through distractions, and why true growth requires embracing discomfort rather than running from it. Through practical encouragement and biblical wisdom, you'll discover how God can use resistance to build spiritual strength and emotional resilience. Drawing from Romans 5:3-4, this episode explores how suffering produces perseverance, perseverance produces character, and character produces hope. If you're walking through a challenging season of motherhood, burnout recovery, personal growth, or spiritual development, this conversation will remind you that your struggle is not wasted. You may feel like you're being stretched, bent, or challenged right now, but God may be using this season to grow roots that will sustain you for years to come. In this episode, you'll discover why resistance is necessary for growth, how hardship develops emotional and spiritual resilience, what NASA's fallen trees can teach us about strength, how God uses difficult seasons to deepen our roots, and why perseverance creates lasting hope. The Invisible Struggle of Hidden Growth: Why Consistency Feels Boring (But Changes Everything)

Have you ever felt like you're doing all the right things but not seeing any results? In this episode of Planted On Purpose, Aurie shares a powerful lesson from an unlikely teacher: the mesquite tree. While traveling through the deserts of West Texas and New Mexico, she discovered how mesquite trees spend years growing deep roots before showing much growth above the surface. The same is often true in our lives. If you've been frustrated by slow progress, tempted to chase the latest productivity hack, or discouraged because your growth isn't visible yet, this conversation will remind you that God is often doing His most important work underground. We'll explore why consistency feels boring, how deep transformation happens beneath the surface, and what it means to send your roots toward the Living Water instead of constantly chasing surface-level change. Why real transformation starts beneath the surfaceThe surprising lesson mesquite trees teach about growthHow consistency rewires your mind and nervous systemWhy habit change takes longer than most people thinkThe difference between changing actions and changing beliefsHow boredom can sabotage your growth right before breakthroughWhat Jeremiah 17:8 teaches us about resilience and fruitfulnessHow to prioritize spiritual roots before visible results"They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." Jeremiah 17:8 "Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst." John 4:14 The mesquite tree prioritizes survival before appearance. It spends years developing deep roots in search of water before investing energy into visible growth. As moms, we often do the opposite. We focus on changing routines, schedules, and productivity systems while ignoring the beliefs and thought patterns driving our behavior. Many of us quit because growth feels slow and repetitive. We mistake boredom for lack of progress. In reality, consistency is often evidence that roots are forming. The daily practices that seem insignificant today are creating stability, resilience, and strength that will support future growth. Just as a tree must find water before it can flourish, we must stay connected to Christ before we can thrive. When Bible reading, prayer, and spiritual connection become our first priority, everything else grows from a healthier foundation. One of the biggest obstacles to transformation isn't failure—it's boredom. Our brains crave novelty, causing us to abandon healthy habits just before they begin producing meaningful results. Don't confuse a lack of excitement with a lack of progress. Where is God quietly growing roots in your life right now?Are you focused more on visible results or deep transformation? What habits are helping you stay connected to the Living Water? What area of your life feels boring but may actually be producing growth? How can you choose consistency over constant reinvention this week?Morning Rhythm Reset If you're tired of starting over every Monday and constantly trying to overhaul your entire life, the Morning Rhythm Reset will help you create one simple change that builds lasting energy, patience, and peace. From Burned Out & Giving Up to Blooming: The Day-to-Day Survival That Almost Became Her Life

If you’ve ever felt so emotionally exhausted that simply keeping everyone alive felt like success… this conversation will hit home. In this powerful client testimony, Megan shares her journey from survival mode to intentional living. Before beginning coaching, she felt completely checked out from her life and family. Her days were spent sleeping while the kids were at school, lying awake all night with racing thoughts she couldn’t turn off, and barely making it through the day emotionally and mentally. Screens and TV had become the default rhythm of parenting. Her household felt disconnected, chaotic, and emotionally drained. Her husband had withdrawn and was avoiding the tension at home, while Megan struggled with burnout, overwhelm, anxiety, emotional exhaustion, and feeling disconnected from herself, her family, and her purpose. But transformation was possible. In this episode, Megan vulnerably shares how learning to slow down, ground herself, renew her mindset, and create intentional rhythms completely changed the atmosphere of her home and her life. Today, Megan is sleeping through the night, waking up with purpose and intention, running her household with confidence, cooking meals, helping with homework, unpacking long-ignored boxes, and showing up present for her family. Her children are calmer, fighting less, and engaging more without screens. Her husband has re-engaged with both Megan and the kids, and family connection has become part of their daily rhythm again. She even started a part-time job and says she feels happier, more resilient, and more emotionally grounded than she has in years. If you’re a woman struggling with burnout, survival mode, mental overload, emotional exhaustion, or feeling disconnected from your life, this episode is a reminder that healing and transformation are possible. Topics covered in this episode: • Burnout recovery for women • Survival mode and emotional exhaustion • Christian mindset and intentional living • Family connection and screen-free rhythms • Healing anxiety and racing thoughts • Creating healthy daily routines • Marriage and family transformation • Grounding practices for overwhelmed moms • Moving from surviving to thriving • Finding purpose after burnout

Are You Trying to Control Too Much? Why Waiting is a Perfectionism Thing.

We often wait for ideal timing before ever doing anything. Whether that's putting down roots, starting new grounding rhythms, working on our emotional regulation. We wait for when things just slow down or when things are just a little less crazy. I'll start this new thing. I'm Aurie Riley, an aerospace engineer who grew up into an artist mindset tool creator, a now burnout coach.  I help overwhelmed moms step out of survival mode and into a life that finally feels peaceful, grounded, and doable again. 3 secrets to a yell-free morning Coffee Chat LIVE📅 May 22nd⏰ 11:00 AM CST💻 Live Online Save Your Spot 🌿 Spots are free, but registration is required. [ Reserve Your Spot ] Tired but wired? grab the free download and stop the night time brain spin.  I'll start this new growth. I'll start working on my health. I'll start working on my routines. I'll finally get this house cleaned up.  📍 If you are exhausted from self-improvement, this is for you. If you're tired of trying to overhaul your whole life, every time you fall off the bandwagon, the morning rhythm reset is your first step out of that cycle. With one simple change, you can have the energy and patience you want for your kids, your job, and your home without running on fumes before the day even begins. It's small, it's simple and it works. Grab it HERE  Here's the kicker, moms. The perfect timing is never coming. We think when things settle down or when the kids start back to school, we'll get on whatever it is that we are wanting to do to improve. Ladies, it's been seven years since I had my little girl and I'm still waiting for things to slow down. Here's the kicker, moms. The perfect timing is never coming. We think when things settle down or when the kids start back to school, we'll get on whatever it is that we are wanting to do to improve. Ladies, it's been seven years since I had my little girl and I'm still waiting for things to slow down. take the risk. Start taking action, real action, and then adjust as necessary along the way. If it's a crazy season and you start a new, I don't know, nutrition plan, and all of a sudden it has to go out the window because days are long, schedules are crazy, work is busy, and you end up having to order takeout or delivery for a few nights in a row, like, okay, maybe you got bit back a little bit.Readjust. But don't let it stop you from growing at all, and don't let it kill you down to the ground. The challenges and the storms of life, they never stop. They just iterate. They evolve. They change. But the way that I ride out the storms now, much different. I feel like I have a little bit of Johnny Depp's swagger because I'm not panicking like the disciples did when they got caught in the storm crossing the Sea of Galilee.I'm just riding it out, and I know that I'm gonna make it to the other side. And it might be by the skin of my teeth, but we're gonna make it. I'm still waiting for my body to bounce back. I'm still waiting for her to be old enough to be independently doing things. I'm still waiting for the day when she's in school. We're homeschooling, in case you didn't know. Um, but even when she was in school last year, the slowdown didn't come. There was more things. It's been seven years and what I've realized is, is that in the seven years that I've been waiting, life has handed me plot twist after plot twist.  That time is never coming. And I've been waiting for this slowdown, but here's the thing I haven't stopped moving. I've made the decision that while, yes, a slowdown, a perfect season, a lull, a rest period, something would be nice, I can't waste time waiting for it to show up.
