    Welcome back WITS listeners! This week, join Elle and Kay as we discuss Basket Case: Taken by the Horny Wicker Basket by Skye and Philomena MacKinnon. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙 This week, we start with a call to action for our US listeners. Please go out and vote this week, your voice matters! We continue to use this podcast to broaden our understanding of the world, including investigating whether or not Philomena MacKinnon is a pen name (it is) or a cat. Boots on the ground investigative journalism over here. Kay loves the incorporation of Scottish lore in her smut. We learned about some of the traditions of Samhain (including how to properly pronounce it), specifically picking kale to get information about your future spouse. As for the smut... it smuts in this book. Kay was very pleased to find that the basket does, in fact, turn into a flesh and blood man (Fae?) at the end. For the first time in a while, this was a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for both Kay and Elle.     Welcome back WITS listeners! Join Elle and Kay this week as we discuss Monster Mash by Latrexa Nova. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙 We start this week with a discussion on casting after the release of the cast for the live action adaptation of Fourth Wing. We're both excited to see how it goes, and Kay is still hoping that Michael B. Jordan gives himself at least some sort of role. In our book this week, there's a grocery list of trigger warnings, but not listed in the book itself... if we missed any at the start, we apologize. However, if you're listening to a level 5, you're likely not all that triggered by any of these. Elle was triggered by the continued appearance of the clown horn noise. Boffa boffa. While there was a lot that didn't work for us personally... Latrexa Nova could still do a master class on creative writing. Overall.     Welcome back WITS listeners! Join Elle and Kay this week as we discuss Taken by the Scarecrow by Kitty L. Black. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙🐙 We start this week with more AI news in the trad publishing world that has us baffled and infuriated. Should we start our own publishing house? This week's book has some darker elements in addition to some of our least favorite tropes... popcorn AND pregnancy? How do the two combine, you may ask... and whatever you're thinking is probably accurate. The authors ability to create anxiety within the reader was excellent... but some of the scenes left us not on board with the romantic element. Elle is big mad about our FMC changing her life plans or living in the city after a single conversation with the scarecrow and some popcorn babies. Overall, both Elle and Kay gave this ⭐⭐. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙 We start off this week discussing Rebecca Yarros and her fans' lack of empathy. It's time to get outside and touch grass, people! This week's book has all the witchy vibes we could want as we make our way deeper into spooky season, though we could do with a little more revenge! Overall, Elle gave this ⭐⭐⭐⭐, but if it had been just a little longer and had a little more resolution, it definitely would be higher because the writing was really good.     80. No Bones About It

    Welcome back WITS listeners! This week, join Elle and Kay as we discuss No Bones About It by Cassandra Elizzabeth. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙 We start off this week discussing the NHL's new romance marketing campaign. While Kay understands some of the pushback.... as a hockey girlie, she's all in. This week's book does not paint HOA's in a good light, but we are very much on the side of letting people do what they want if it brings them joy. Kay's biggest problem with a relationship between a 12 foot skeleton and a human woman is kissing with all teeth, and the fact that the skeleton uses emoji eyes and charades to communicate. Also, we have yet another outrageous google search in real time. Overall, Kay gave this ⭐⭐, although if there had been a few chapters from the skeleton's perspective, it probably would be higher because the writing was really good.     Welcome back WITS listeners! This week, join Elle and Kay as we discuss another installment of the "my date with..." potluck, My Date with a Pair of Grey Sweatpants by Dakota Cockaday. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙/🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙 (questionable dubcon elements?) Smutverse news is the frightening reality of the direction of AI. Kay thinks that the world seems to be operating like a big game of Who's Line is it Anyway? This week's book has an interesting premise. Elle was mad that the FMC wasn't doing more research on the man that she was dream visiting, like we should all be doing in the present day dating world. Kay thinks that dream walking is a real thing, and Elle's analytical mind is never going to agree with that. Overall, we both gave this ⭐⭐.5. The premise was great, we wish she had more time to fully develop it. As always, theres a mid-episode Google search and we discuss whether or not doctors actually used early forms of vibrators to cure hysteria. A scene involving food didn't immediately make Elle want to throw her kindle across the room, and there was the perfect amount of plot and world building for a book of this length. Overall, Elle loved this one, giving it ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ while Kay also really liked it, coming in slightly lower at ⭐⭐⭐⭐. For the PEN America efforts to stop book bans, use this link here. We were hopeful that by reading book 1 in the Kyleverse that we would have more information to fill in some gaps from Wrapped that we had read last year... we were wrong. The word rake should definitely make a comeback in regards to describing men, but the individual in this book served his sentence for being one. We're also a little bit impressed with how on board Kyle is with whatever situation he is presented with. We also get another example of "you need to know someone before you eat at their house." Overall Kay gave this ⭐⭐⭐, while Elle rated this a little lower at ⭐⭐.
