Crazy Bodycam: Do You Really Want to Be a Cop?

The badge won’t save you. Your follower count won’t save you. And dancing around on TikTok won’t prepare you for someone fighting to take your life. This is a serious profession with deadly consequences. You need the fitness to keep fighting, the skills to protect yourself and others, and the mental discipline to make sound decisions under extreme pressure. Being prepared to fight also means knowing when to use force—and when to stop. In this episode of Lock’d Up with Copville, I break down two intense bodycam encounters: a confrontation involving a person reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis that ends in an in-custody death and raises serious questions about repeated Taser use, and a wanted shooting suspect whose foot pursuit ends in a fatal officer-involved shooting. We’re taking a hard look at the tactics, the force, and the consequences. Was the Taser use excessive? What happens when your equipment doesn’t end the fight? Can you maintain control, think clearly, and recognize when the situation changes? If you’re thinking about applying, understand what you’re signing up for. You may have to fight for your life, protect someone else’s, or make a decision you’ll carry forever. Taking this job seriously means preparing before that moment arrives. Get in shape. Train your hands. Be proficient with your weapons. Build your mental discipline. Your partners and the public need someone they can count on when everything goes sideways.

Friday Night Lights (Gridiron and Guns) Armed Off Duty Cops?

What happens when off-duty police officers show up to a high school football game in plain clothes, armed, and using a marked police vehicle? In this episode of Lock'd Up with Copville, we break down the questions surrounding a recent incident involving Vero Beach Police officers at a local football game.According to reporting by Vero News, deputies became concerned after observing what appeared to be a civilian accessing a marked police vehicle. That person turned out to be an off-duty police officer. The situation raises bigger questions about take-home vehicle policies, communication between agencies, off-duty firearm rules, supervision, and officer safety. We also examine reports that one of the officers had previously been involved in an issue concerning carrying a firearm at a football game. If expectations had already been communicated, why did another situation occur? And there’s another question worth asking: Why was a marked police vehicle being used to attend the game in the first place? Was it simply a misunderstanding of the take-home vehicle policy, or did having the police vehicle provide parking, admission, access, or some other benefit? There is currently no evidence establishing that the officers were attempting to get into the game for free, but it is a question that deserves clarification. Most importantly, this incident shows how seemingly small policy issues can create much larger problems. Deputies believed they might be dealing with an unauthorized person accessing a police vehicle. Add plain clothes and firearms to that situation, and a misunderstanding could potentially become a serious officer-safety issue. We break down what is known, what remains unanswered, and why clear policies and consistent accountability matter. This episode is about asking questions—not assuming guilt. The facts and the policies should provide the answers.

In this Copville Emergency Broadcast, we’re breaking down the encounter from a law-enforcement perspective. What did the auditor have a legal right to do? How did the officers respond? Could the situation have been handled differently? And what can officers learn from encounters where someone is intentionally recording and testing the boundaries of the First Amendment? We’re going to separate what the video actually shows from the social-media commentary, talk about officer discretion and constitutional rights, and discuss how one encounter can quickly become a public-relations issue when millions of people have a camera in their pocket. 🚨 Viral video. Badge Access Betrayed More Flock Issues

Law enforcement officers are trusted with access to some of the most sensitive information available—driver’s license photos, home addresses, vehicle information, criminal-justice records, and license-plate-reader data. That access is a privilege, not a personal search engine. In this episode of Copville, we break down the case of former Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Alain Fernandez, who is accused of using restricted law-enforcement databases for personal purposes and sharing confidential information with friends and associates through text messages and Snapchat.Investigators allege the conduct wasn't an isolated mistake. Reporting on the FDLE investigation describes at least 22 alleged disclosures between 2022 and 2025, involving information associated with systems including DAVID, NCIC, and Flock license-plate-reader data. We’re digging into the questions every cop and every citizen should be asking: What happens when someone with a badge turns government databases into a tool for their friends? Where is the line between having access and having authorization? How are these searches audited? And what should happen when that trust is allegedly abused? We’ll also break down the rules governing DAVID, Flock, and NCIC, because “I had access” is not the same thing as “I had a legitimate law-enforcement reason to use it.”The badge gives you responsibility. The password gives you access. Neither gives you permission to use sensitive information however you want. This case involves allegations and criminal charges. Fernandez is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
