You’re Not Listening to Me”: How to Become a Better Listener & Communicator

Have you ever been told, “You’re not listening to me,” even though you heard every word? There’s a big difference between hearing someone and truly listening to understand them. In this episode of Be Your Own Life Coach, we’re breaking down the art of active listening and why becoming a better listener can transform your relationships, communication, and ability to connect with the people around you. We explore why so many of us listen to respond, defend, solve, or prove our point instead of listening to understand. You’ll learn how to recognize the emotions underneath someone’s words, stop interrupting, reflect back what you hear, ask better questions, and make the people in your life feel genuinely seen and understood. We also talk about what happens when you want to listen but your brain keeps getting distracted by background noise, stress, lack of sleep, information overload, or ADHD-style attention challenges—and practical ways to quiet the noise and bring your attention back to the conversation. In this episode, we cover: The difference between hearing vs. listeningWhy we listen to respond instead of understandHow defensiveness and problem-solving interfere with connectionThe three levels of listeningHow to practice active listeningHow to show someone you're listening without interruptingReflective listening and clarifying questionsWhy stress, exhaustion, and distractions affect your ability to listenHow to quiet outside noise and become more presentWhy feeling heard is one of the greatest gifts we can give another personAnd in this week’s Coach Yourself segment, you’ll reflect on your own listening habits and identify one way you can become more present in your next conversation. Because listening isn’t just a communication skill. It’s an act of respect. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can say is nothing at all. Just listen. #ActiveListening #CommunicationSkills #BetterCommunication #HealthyRelationships #RelationshipAdvice #PersonalGrowth #SelfAwareness #EmotionalIntelligence #MindfulCommunication #ListeningSkills #BeYourOwnLifeCoach #LifeCoaching #PersonalDevelopment #RelationshipSkills #Mindfulness BYOLC S2 E44

Advocating for Yourself Is Self-Care: Boundaries, Difficult Conversations & Speaking Up

What if self-care isn’t always a bubble bath, a massage, or taking a day off? Sometimes the most powerful form of self-care is having the conversation you’ve been avoiding. In this episode of Be Your Own Life Coach, we’re talking about self-advocacy—how to speak up for yourself, set healthy boundaries, ask for what you need, and have difficult conversations even when they feel uncomfortable. We explore why so many of us stay quiet to avoid conflict, rejection, disappointment, or being seen as “difficult”—and what can happen when we continually prioritize keeping the peace over honoring our own needs. Unspoken feelings don’t simply disappear. They can become resentment, anger, anxiety, exhaustion, burnout, and strained relationships. You’ll also learn practical ways to advocate for yourself, including using “I” statements, asking for clarification, saying no without over-apologizing, asking for help, making the appointment you’ve been putting off, and holding boundaries when they’re challenged. And remember: you don’t have to change everything overnight. Like yoga, sometimes the smallest adjustment creates the biggest opening. One honest conversation. One boundary. One request for help. One courageous “no.” In the Coach Yourself segment, ask yourself: Where am I abandoning myself to keep someone else comfortable? What conversation am I avoiding? What boundary needs to be created or reinforced?Where am I waiting for someone else to rescue me instead of advocating for myself? What is one small shift I can make this week?Self-care isn’t always soothing. Sometimes it’s stretching. And sometimes choosing yourself starts with finding the courage to speak up. BYOLC S2 E43 #believebretagne #selfcare #advocate #lifecoach #boundaries

Stop Asking “What’s Wrong?” Ask “What Do I Need?” | How to Understand What Your Emotions Are Telling You

What if your bad mood doesn’t mean something is wrong with your life, your relationship, your job—or with you? Sometimes, the problem isn’t that something is wrong. Something might simply be missing. In this episode of Be Your Own Life Coach, we explore how to stop immediately creating a story around uncomfortable emotions and start getting curious about what those feelings might actually be communicating. Irritation might be exhaustion. Resentment might signal a need for support or stronger boundaries. Anxiety might be asking for clarity, reassurance, or safety. Loneliness can sometimes disguise itself as frustration. And procrastination? It may have more to do with overwhelm than laziness. We’ll also explore the HALT method—Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired—and expand the question even further: Do you need rest? Food? Movement? Quiet? Connection? Reassurance? Help? Fun? Space? Clarity? A boundary? Or maybe a conversation you’ve been avoiding? Because feelings are often information, not instructions. And there’s one important distinction: recognizing what you need doesn’t automatically make someone else responsible for providing it. Self-awareness gives you the opportunity to decide what you can ask for, change, communicate, or give yourself. So the next time your mind asks, “What is wrong with me?” try asking something more useful: What am I feeling? What might I need? And what can I do to give myself some of that today? This episode is for anyone working on emotional intelligence, self-awareness, anxiety, overwhelm, boundaries, relationships, self-care, and becoming their own life coach. Manifestation Without Action Is Just a Wish: What to Do After the Lion’s Gate Portal

A powerful day doesn’t change your life. What you do afterward does. The Lion’s Gate Portal may have inspired you to journal, set intentions, visualize your future, ask for signs, or get clear about what you want. But once the energy shifts and the excitement fades, a much more important question remains: Now what? In this episode of Be Your Own Life Coach, we’re talking about what happens after manifestation—when intention has to become action. Whether you believe in astrology and energetic portals or simply see them as an opportunity for reflection, the lesson is universal: your future isn’t created during one magical moment. It’s created through the ordinary choices you make afterward. We’ll explore why motivation naturally fades, why manifestation requires participation, and how to turn your intentions into momentum through small, consistent actions. You’ll also learn how to stop endlessly searching for signs and start becoming the person capable of creating the life you’ve been asking for. Because the universe might open the door… but you still have to walk through it. In this episode: Why inspiration and motivation eventually wear offThe connection between manifestation, action, and disciplineHow to become the person your goals requireWhy tiny actions create powerful momentumWhen to stop asking for another signThree questions to help you turn intention into action todayBYOLC S2 E41 #BelieveBretagne #BeYourOWNLifeCoach #LifeCoach #Manifestation #selfhelppodcast
