Day 272 TODAY’S READING: Mark 1:14–15, Matthew 4:12–17, Luke 3:23–38, John 4:46–54, Luke 4:16–30, Mark 1:16–20, Matthew 4:18–22, Mark 1:21–28, Luke 4:31–37, Mark 1:29–34, Matthew 8:14–17, Luke 4:38–41, Mark 1:35–39, Luke 4:42–44, Matthew 4:23–25 WORD OF THE DAY: Proclamation Today’s reading takes us into the dynamic beginning of Jesus’ public ministry in Galilee. Announcing that the time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand, Jesus calls all people to repent and believe the good news. Moving into Capernaum, He fulfills Isaiah’s prophecy by bringing divine light to those living in spiritual darkness. While returning to Cana, a royal official approaches Him, pleading for his dying son who is twenty miles away. Demonstrating the extraordinary reach of His authority, Jesus simply speaks the word—healing the boy instantly from a distance and leading the official’s entire household to faith. However, when Jesus returns to His hometown of Nazareth and reads from Isaiah in the synagogue—declaring that He is the fulfillment of Messianic prophecy—the crowd reacts with outrage, attempting to hurl Him off a cliff. Passing unharmed through their midst, Jesus steps onto the shores of the Sea of Galilee, calling Simon, Andrew, James, and John to leave their nets and become fishers of men. Entering the synagogue at Capernaum, He teaches with unmatched authority and commands an unclean spirit to leave a demon-possessed man. That evening at Simon Peter’s house, Jesus heals Peter’s mother-in-law, who immediately rises to serve them. As crowds gather with their sick and demon-oppressed, Jesus heals every one of them, rising early the next morning to seek solitude in prayer before expanding His preaching mission to surrounding towns. WORD OF THE DAY: Proclamation A public or official announcement of truth; a bold declaration of God’s kingdom and sovereign authority that demands a personal response. Jesus did not merely live quietly; He proclaimed truth through every word, action, and miraculous healing. As followers of Christ, our lives and speech should serve as clear declarations of His transforming grace. How do we live out this proclamation today? First, we listen to His authority—submitting our hearts to the power of Scripture above human opinions. Second, we respond promptly—leaving behind distractions to follow Him without hesitation when He calls. Finally, we declare His goodness—sharing simple, authentic testimonies of what God is doing in our daily lives with those around us. Journal Prompt In what everyday setting or relationship is God inviting you to make a quiet or bold proclamation of His love and truth this week? Closing Prayer Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to proclaim the arrival of Your kingdom and to bear our infirmities. Give us the courage to follow Him whole-heartedly, leaving behind anything that hinders our walk.
