Put On the New Self: Are We Living What We Believe?

Does the way we treat people actually reflect the Jesus we tell them about? In this episode, we're digging into Colossians 3 and what it means to put off the old self and put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and love. But we're not stopping at knowing what Scripture says. We're asking what it looks like to actually live it! We'll connect Paul's teaching to the Great Commission and look at how Jesus modeled these very qualities through His relationships with the disciples. There's so much we can learn about how Jesus loved, served, and prepared people to carry out His mission. And we're talking about the body of Christ, too. How do we treat fellow believers? What do our words reveal about our hearts? Are we remembering that, ultimately, we are serving the Lord Christ? A little heads-up: This episode ran a little longer than usual! But you know how it goes when you're studying God's Word and start uncovering one treasure after another. Sometimes the Bible teacher in me gets a little excited, geeks out over what I'm learning, and forgets that other people have things to do with their day! So grab your coffee and settle in. There's some good stuff here! Let's Walk It Out — November Challenge I'm inviting you to join me for a 30-day challenge throughout November. Spend time in God's Word each day, look for opportunities to put what you're learning into practice, and keep a simple journal or tracker. Ask yourself: What did God's Word teach me today?Where did I have an opportunity to put that truth into practice?Where do I need to ask the Lord to continue transforming me?This isn't about earning salvation or keeping score. It's about recognizing how God is transforming us as we learn to be doers of His Word. Are You Drifting from God? How Small Compromises Pull Your Heart Away

Are you drifting from God without realizing it? Spiritual drift rarely begins with one big decision. More often, it begins with a small compromise, a competing voice, or a good thing that gradually takes a place in our hearts that belongs to God. In this episode, Stacy shares how a study about money led her into Ecclesiastes 5—and then into the life of Solomon. Together, we will examine what money, success, performance, approval, and accomplishment can begin saying about our worth. We will also consider how Solomon, despite his God-given wisdom, allowed other voices to influence his heart and obedience. You will leave with practical steps to recognize compromise, turn down competing voices, and receive God’s gifts without asking them to become your identity. Today’s Question God’s Word tells me my worth is not measured by what I earn, achieve, or produce—so how do I recognize when my pursuit of those things is causing me to drift? In This Episode We explore: Why good things such as work, success, money, relationships, and approval can quietly become measures of our worthWhat Solomon’s life teaches us about wisdom, obedience, and spiritual driftHow competing voices can make compromise sound reasonableWhy knowing God’s truth is not the same as continuing to obey itHow to enjoy God’s gifts without allowing them to become our identityWhat it means to receive our work, provision, and daily life as gifts from GodThe Truth to Remember Small compromises and competing voices can create drift before we even realize we are moving. Let’s Walk It Out Name one compromise. Where have you been making an exception to something God has already made clear?Identify the loudest voice. Who or what has been making that compromise sound reasonable?Take one obedient step. Choose one specific action you can take within the next 24 hours.Pray for an inclined heart. Read 1 Kings 8:57–58 and pray: “Lord, incline my heart toward You. Help Your voice become the loudest voice in my life.”Go Deeper This episode is a high-level walk through a much larger study. The accompanying Substack article explores the vanities Solomon identifies throughout Ecclesiastes and the things that can quietly pull our hearts away from God. Read the companion article here. Rotten Words, Bitter Roots & a Grieved Spirit

What if gossip isn't simply a problem with our words? In Ephesians 4, Paul uses the Greek word sapros to describe corrupt speech—something rotten, decayed, spoiled and unfit for use. Then, one verse later, we read: “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God.” That changes the conversation. In this episode of Scripture Adventures, we're digging into gossip, slander, the conversations we call “venting,” the stories we willingly listen to, the offenses we pick up that were never ours to carry, and what all of it can reveal about what's taking root in our hearts. We'll look at gossip as choice food, the wood that keeps a fire burning, rotten speech, bitter fruit, and what obedience looks like when God's Word confronts something in us—with a little wisdom from my Grandma woven in along the way. Because before we speak, listen, repeat the story, send the text or make the phone call, maybe there's a better question to ask: Will this please the Holy Spirit—or grieve Him?
