Where, then, did these weeds come from?' 13:28He answered, 'An enemy has done this.' The slaves said to him, 'Then do you want us to go and gather them?' 13:29But he replied, 'No, for in gathering the weeds you would uproot the wheat along with them. 13:30Let both of them grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Collect the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.'" 13:36Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples approached him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field." 13:37He answered, "The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man; 13:38the field is the world, and the good seed are the children of the kingdom; the weeds are the children of the evil one, 13:39and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. 13:40Just as the weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. 13:41The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, 13:42and they will throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 13:43Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, July 12th, 2026 | Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23  | with Donovan Drake, Sarah Bird Kneff, and Will Wellman Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23 The parable of the sower and the seed  13:1That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. 13:2Such great crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat there, while the whole crowd stood on the beach. 13:3And he told them many things in parables, saying: "Listen! A sower went out to sow. 13:4And as he sowed, some seeds fell on a path, and the birds came and ate them up. 13:5Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil. 13:6But when the sun rose, they were scorched, and since they had no root, they withered away. 13:7Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. 13:8Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 13:9If you have ears, hear!" 13:18"Hear, then, the parable of the sower. 13:19When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in the heart; this is what was sown on the path. 13:20As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, 13:21yet such a person has no root but endures only for a while, and when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, that person immediately falls away. 13:22As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of this age and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing. 13:23But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty." Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, July 5th, 2026 | Matthew 11 | with Donovan Drake, Guy D. Griffith, Stephanie Boaz, Sarah Bird Kneff, Ashley Higgins, and Will Wellman Matthew 11 11:1Now when Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and proclaim his message in their cities. Messengers from John the Baptist 2 When John heard in prison what the Messiah[a] was doing, he sent word by his[b]disciples 3 and said to him, “Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?” 4 Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John what you hear and see: 5 the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with a skin disease are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news brought to them. 6 And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me.” Jesus Praises John the Baptist 7 As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to look at? A reed shaken by the wind? 8 What, then, did you go out to see? Someone[c] dressed in soft robes? Look, those who wear soft robes are in royal palaces. 9 What, then, did you go out to see? A prophet?[d] Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 This is the one about whom it is written, ‘See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,     who will prepare your way before you.’ 11 “Truly I tell you, among those born of women no one has arisen greater than John the Baptist, yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence,[e] and violent people take it by force. 13 For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John came, 14 and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come. 15 Let anyone with ears[f] listen! 16 “But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to one another, 17 ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance;     we wailed, and you did not mourn.’ 18 “For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon’; 19 the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”[g] Woes to Unrepentant Cities 20 Then he began to reproach the cities in which most of his deeds of power had been done because they did not repent. 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the deeds of power done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I tell you, on the day of judgment it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven?     No, you will be brought down to Hades. “For if the deeds of power done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24 But I tell you that on the day of judgment it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom than for you.” Jesus Thanks His Father 25 At that time Jesus said, “I thank[h] you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; 26 yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.[i] 27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Discover more about the welcoming community at Westminster Presbyterian Church! Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, June 21, 2026 | Romans 6:1-11 | with Donovan Drake, Guy D. Griffith, Stephanie Boaz, Sarah Bird Kneff, Ashley Higgins, and Will Wellman Romans 6:1-11 Buried and raised with Christ in baptism  6:1bShould we continue in sin in order that grace may increase? 6:2By no means! How can we who died to sin go on living in it? 6:3Do you not know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 6:4Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life. 6:5For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6:6We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be destroyed, so we might no longer be enslaved to sin. 6:7For whoever has died is freed from sin. 6:8But if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 6:9We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. 6:10The death he died, he died to sin once for all, but the life he lives, he lives to God. 6:11So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, June 7, 2026 | Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26 | with Donovan Drake, Stephanie Boaz, and Sarah Bird Kneff Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26 Christ heals a woman and raises a girl  9:9As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax-collection station, and he said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him. 9:10And as he sat at dinner in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and were sitting with Jesus and his disciples. 9:11When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" 9:12But when he heard this, he said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 9:13Go and learn what this means, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous but sinners." 9:18While he was saying these things to them, suddenly a leader came in and knelt before him, saying, "My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live." 9:19And Jesus got up and followed him, with his disciples. 9:20Then suddenly a woman who had been suffering from a flow of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his cloak, 9:21for she was saying to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be made well." 9:22Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, "Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well." and the woman was made well from that moment. 9:23When Jesus came to the leader's house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion, 9:24he said, "Go away, for the girl is not dead but sleeping." And they laughed at him. 9:25But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl got up. 9:26And the report of this spread through all of that district.
