    Feeding a family starts out sounding simple. Then one kid won't eat that, another can't eat this, somebody has a texture issue, and somehow you're making three different dinners and wondering when you became a short-order cook. This week on Moms Unhinged, Andrea talks with comedian Avril Granato about the never-ending job of figuring out what everyone is going to eat. From a child who wanted everything to be green to a traumatic bite of quinoa and the childhood “wish sandwich” Avril never forgot, sometimes getting everybody fed is enough of a win. And just when you think the kids are the problem, Avril discovers her husband has been sneaking three blocks from the house to buy—and finish—an entire tub of ice cream.     Why do we keep adding pets to our lives when the kids already need so much from us? This week, Andrea is joined by Chicago-based comedian Colleen Brennan to swap stories about the pets their families probably weren't prepared for. There’s a puppy returned for a suspicious case of “the mange,” a rabbit purchased by two unsupervised children, a betta fish injured with a slotted spoon, and a rescue rat named Elvira who was just a little too much rat. And because every kid promises they’ll take care of the pet, Andrea and Colleen get into what inevitably happens next: Mom ends up taking care of it anyway.     “Experienced Mom” Is a Very Loose Term

    Kari Stern thought baby number three might finally give her the smooth birth experience she’d been waiting for. Instead, she gave birth in the front seat of her brand-new car, in the parking lot of the coroner’s office, with her two older kids in the backseat. Seven years after her second child, Kari was coming back to the baby stage as an older, more experienced mom. She and her husband had changed as parents, her older kids were more independent, and surely this time around they knew what they were doing. Motherhood had other plans. Kari joins Andrea to talk about starting over with a baby after getting some independence back, watching her older kids become siblings again, and discovering that experience doesn't necessarily make motherhood any less unhinged. And the car birth is only the beginning. There are fireworks, a runaway mom, an unfortunate double-stroller incident, and several moments that raise an important question: How many kids do you have to have before you actually know what you're doing? Comedian Pam Moore joins Andrea to talk about raising two teenage daughters, watching her oldest head toward high school, and realizing that even the parts of motherhood that drive you crazy — like constantly driving your kids everywhere — are eventually the things you might miss. Pam also talks about finding stand-up later in life and what it means for her daughters to watch her try something new, struggle, fail, and keep going. She shares her experience developing Bell’s palsy just 10 days after giving birth, the years-long impact it had on her confidence and self-image, and what that difficult season taught her about self-compassion and accepting the things you can’t rush.
