    Finding Your Place in the Stock Show Industry with Avery Oliver

Avery highlights the value of internships for skills, perspective, mentors, gratitude, and career discovery, and explains how livestock judging builds leadership, coachability, quick decision-making, and public speaking.     Cultivating Community: Whitney Hinrichsen on Oklahoma Agriculture

    This week on the Stock Show Sisters podcast, co-host Riki interviews Whitney Hinrichsen, agritourism coordinator for the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry, about advocacy, lifelong learning, leadership development, and relationships. Whitney shares growing up in Seimet, Oklahoma, being shaped by her ag-teacher father and FFA/livestock events, and earning an animal science bachelor’s and ag communications master’s at Oklahoma State. She explains agritourism as the intersection of tourism and agriculture and describes her role supporting producers for safe, welcoming experiences and promoting 430+ farms across 16 categories, noting national counterparts via NAFDMA. Whitney discusses launching her you-pick flower farm, Oklahoma Prairie Petals, and winning the NAAMO Agricultural Marketing Excellence Award for “Simple Snacks with Farm Fresh Foods,” an eight-video series featuring producers and youth making healthy snacks.     Lisa Allen on Personal Development, Agricultural Advocacy and Conservation Education

    This week on the Stock Show Sisters podcast, co-host Riki interviews Lisa Allen as she shares her background growing up in southern New Mexico, showing sheep and pigs, and later moving to West Texas near Midland due to family ties and her husband’s oil-field work. Though not formally trained as an ag teacher, she shifted from insurance recovery to becoming a high school librarian, then stepped into an ag/FFA teaching role midyear, ultimately spending about 10 years advising and traveling with students for stock shows, contests, and agriculture trips (including Costa Rica). She now works as a conservation educator with Texas Wildlife Association, delivering hands-on K–8 presentations, emphasizing soil health, water conservation, and ecosystem balance, especially for students unfamiliar with agriculture. Lisa also teaches fitness and travels to teach yoga in Mexico, stressing consistency and “you can’t pour from an empty cup.” She discusses show-ring leadership, volunteering, meeting her husband through buying show pigs, raising twin sons (both engaged), running a small show-pig herd and ending with the advice she would give other women in livestock as they find their own paths in agriculture.     Planning for Success in Livestock Judging: Conversations with Lexi Hunt & Madison Fisher

    This week on the Stock Show Sisters podcast, co-host Riki interviews Lexi Hunt and Madison Fisher about their backgrounds and advice for women in the stock show industry. Lexi, from Buckeye, Arizona, began with goats then sheep, attended South Plains College, earned an animal science degree at Texas Tech, and judged collegiately; Madison, from Hempstead, Texas, grew up showing Red Angus/Red Brangus, judged at NOC in Oklahoma, earned an agribusiness degree, and will attend Kansas State.
