Trainer Talk: Episode 6 - Let's Talk About Body Image: The Science, Influences, and What Actually Helps

Welcome back to another episode of Trainer Talk! In episode 6, the trainers have an honest conversation about body image. Body image is something every single person has — whether we realize it or not. It shapes how we think, how we feel, how we move, and even whether we take care of our health at all. But what is body image, really? And what does a healthy relationship with your body actually look like? In this episode of Trainer Talk, Nicole, Brian and Tasha are joined by Haley — a Licensed Psychologist and creator of our amazing mental health resources inside FB Plus — to have an honest, research-informed conversation about body image (without the pressure, perfection, or unrealistic expectations). Together, the team breaks down what body image really means beyond appearance, including the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that influence how we relate to our bodies. Haley shares the psychological definition of body image and explains why it’s completely normal for body image to shift over time. The conversation then dives into the many factors that shape body image throughout our lives — from sports culture and social media to family messaging, life transitions like pregnancy or aging, and the expectations often found in the fitness industry. The trainers share personal reflections from their own journeys, normalizing just how common body image struggles can be across different experiences and stages of life. One of the most important questions explored in this episode might be “Is the goal to love your body all the time?” Haley explains why constant body positivity isn’t always realistic — and introduces the concept of body neutrality, a more sustainable and compassionate approach that focuses on respect, function, and separating self-worth from appearance. In the second half of the episode, the group shifts toward practical strategies listeners can start using right away. You’ll learn how caring for your body through movement and supportive habits can improve body image — even if your appearance doesn’t change. Haley also shares ways to shift negative thought patterns, align fitness goals with a neutral mindset, and create an environment (including your social media feed) that supports a healthier perspective and reduces comparison. The episode wraps up one simple, actionable step from Haley that you can start right away to improve your own body image. If you’ve ever struggled with body image — or simply want a healthier, more balanced way to think about your body and your goals — this conversation offers both reassurance and practical guidance to help you move forward with more confidence and self-respect. Trainer Talk: Episode 5 - Turning Setbacks into Success: Overcoming Injuries, Illness, and Obstacles with Flexibility and Confidence

Welcome back to another episode of Trainer Talk! In Episode 5, we’re talking about overcoming setbacks in health and fitness. Whether it’s an injury, illness, or another bump along the path to your goals, this is something every single person experiences at some point (though hopefully not too often). In this episode, the team digs into a thoughtful, honest conversation—highlighting common negative thought patterns that tend to show up during a setback, why setbacks are a normal part of any long-term fitness journey, how to adjust expectations without giving up, what success can look like during harder seasons, and how resilience is built over time. As always, personal insights and real-life stories are woven throughout to bring the topic to life, including Nicole and Erica’s pregnancy and postpartum fitness journeys, Patrice’s ear debacle, and both Tasha and Brian’s experiences returning to movement after injuries. The truth is, any setback—big or small—can be frustrating, discouraging, and even emotionally draining. That’s why having a healthy, flexible mindset during these moments is just as important as the physical recovery itself. This episode is here to help you navigate the process so you can move forward with confidence. Oh, and please enjoy our collective attempt at a “Podcast Complete” at the end of the episode. We want to hear from you! Come over on-site at FitnessBlender.com and tell us in the comments: How has a setback changed the way you approach movement, fitness, or your body?
