The Salem Witch Trials - Part I: Satanic Panic | Ep. 29

In the winter of 1692, two young girls in Salem Village, Massachusetts, began suffering from a mysterious affliction. Before long, their suffering would be attributed to something far more frightening than illness. In Part I of The Salem Witch Trials, we return to seventeenth-century Puritan New England, where belief in the Devil and witchcraft shaped everyday life. As religious divisions, frontier warfare, and growing tensions unsettled the Massachusetts Bay Colony, the community of Salem struggled with conflicts of its own. When the daughter and niece of Reverend Samuel Parris began exhibiting strange symptoms, the fears that had long troubled this community were about to take a devastating turn. The Kidnapping and Murder of Charles Lindbergh Jr. - Part IV: The Crime of the Century | Ep. 28

After more than two years of searching, investigators believed they had finally found the man responsible for the kidnapping and murder of Charles Lindbergh Jr. In January 1935, Bruno Richard Hauptmann went on trial in Flemington, New Jersey, for what had become known as the Crime of the Century. As reporters and spectators descended on the small town, the prosecution presented its case against Hauptmann, who maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings. But the verdict would not bring an end to the Lindbergh kidnapping case. In the decades that followed, questions surrounding the evidence, the investigation, and what really happened that night at Highfields would give rise to competing theories and a controversy that has endured for generations.
