Ep. 64 - If You’re Going to Do It, Be All In

In Episode 64 of Becoming & Purpose, I’m talking about two things that have been taking up a lot of space in my mind lately: homeschooling and business. Homeschooling has been hard for me at times, and I’ve had to ask myself whether the difficulty means I made the wrong choice or whether I simply need to change the way I’m approaching it. At the same time, I’ve been thinking about my cleaning business again and what it could look like to grow it in a healthier way, with better boundaries and a clearer order of priorities. For me, that order is God first, then my marriage, then my kids, and then everything else. Business matters, ambition matters, and building something meaningful matters, but I don’t want any of those things quietly taking the place of the responsibilities and relationships I already know are most important. In this episode, I talk about staying strong when homeschool gets difficult, being honest about whether I’m giving it my best effort, why public school and homeschool can feel like the only realistic options depending on where you live, and how I’m learning to think differently about business growth, money, hiring, core values, and boundaries. We also look at Ephesians 6:4, Matthew 6:33, Proverbs 16:3, and Colossians 3:23–24 as we talk about raising children intentionally, keeping God first, committing our work to Him, and doing what’s in front of us wholeheartedly. Questions to sit with this week Am I convinced this is wrong for this season, or am I mainly tired and frustrated by how hard it feels right now? Before I decide something cannot work, have I honestly given it the effort and attention I know I’m capable of giving it? Is something lower on my priority list continually taking energy away from something I say matters more, and could stronger boundaries fix that? What would doing this wholeheartedly look like this week? This episode is really about learning how to keep things in the right order and becoming more intentional with the responsibilities God has already put in front of us.

Ep. 63 - What Are We Letting Shape Us?

In Episode 63 of Becoming & Purpose, I’m talking about discernment and the things that shape us without us always realizing it. This episode came from two completely different situations that happened within about a day of each other. One was seeing a local Facebook post where a mother was asking for help finding her son and watching the comments turn into criticism instead of compassion. The other was realizing that a song playing in my own living room sounded upbeat and harmless, but the message underneath it was something I completely missed until Roman pointed it out. Both situations made me think about the same question: What are we allowing to shape us, and what are we putting back out into the world? I talk about how growing in faith can change what we notice, why discernment is not the same thing as fear or judgment, and why what we watch, listen to, scroll past, laugh at, and repeat can slowly influence the way we think. I also talk about the responsibility we have as parents to help our kids recognize the messages they are absorbing without trying to isolate them from everything. We look at Ephesians 4:29, Romans 12:2, and Philippians 4:8 as we talk about what comes into our minds, what comes out of our mouths, and how spending more time with God can slowly change our instincts. This episode is not about creating a giant list of what Christians are allowed to watch or listen to. It is about learning to ask better questions, paying attention to our conscience, and making sure discernment is making us more like Jesus, not just more critical of everyone else.

Ep. 62 - Stop Holding the Door Open

In Episode 62 of Becoming & Purpose, I’m talking about something that really came together for me after spending the weekend at a women’s conference at Grace City Church in Wenatchee. I had already been wrestling with purpose, career, motherhood, homeschooling, and the constant feeling that maybe I should be doing something more. Then I went to this conference and heard so many things that connected directly with what I had just been thinking and talking about on the podcast. The biggest realization I came home with was this: I don’t have to give up ambition, business, or the possibility of a career. I can still build something meaningful and contribute financially. But I do need to remember where those things belong. For me, the order is God first, then my marriage, then my kids, and then everything else. Career can absolutely be part of the “everything else,” but it can’t continually pull me away from the things I already know matter most. I also talk about what it means to stop mentally holding a door open just in case something better comes along, and instead trust that if God wants to open that door, He is fully capable of doing it in His timing. We look at Matthew 6:33, Ephesians 5:15–17, and Ephesians 2:10 as we talk about priorities, wisdom, purpose, and trusting God with the timing of what comes next. Mini lesson: three questions to sit with this week 1. What has God already made clear in this season? Who has He entrusted to you? What responsibilities are clearly yours right now? 2. What has been getting your best attention? What occupies your thoughts, energy, planning, and focus most often? 3. Is there something you’re trying to keep available because you’re afraid that if you stop controlling it, you’ll miss your chance? Is there a door you may need to stop holding open and trust God with instead? This episode isn’t about giving up on ambition. It’s about putting ambition in the right place and trusting God enough to be fully present in the life He has already given you.

Ep. 60 - When Good Things Get Out of Order

In this episode, I’m talking about something I’ve been thinking about since my last conversation on being on fire for Jesus: what happens when our faith is growing, but the rest of our life starts getting out of order? Sometimes the things competing for our attention aren’t bad things at all. They’re work, kids, friendships, church, helping people, serving, responsibilities, goals, and all the normal things that fill our days. But even good things can become disordered when they continually take the place of the people and responsibilities God has already entrusted to us. I talk about what it looks like to keep God first without turning faith into just another task, how communication can get messy when life gets busy, why marriage and family can accidentally end up on autopilot, and why being on fire for Jesus should eventually affect the way we love and treat the people closest to us. We also look at Matthew 6:33, James 1:19, and Colossians 3:12–14 and what those passages teach us about putting God first, listening well, and allowing our faith to produce patience, humility, kindness, forgiveness, and love. At the end of the episode, I share a simple priority check you can use this week: What do I say matters most to me?Does the way I’m currently spending my time and attention reflect that? And then, more specifically: If God is first, am I actually making room for Him?If my marriage matters deeply, is there intentional connection there? If my kids are a priority, do they get my presence along with everything I do for them?If I say I want to help people, am I doing it from a healthy place, or have I started feeling responsible for everybody? This isn’t about perfect balance. It’s about being willing to notice when something important has been neglected and making the adjustment.
