    28. An Embodied Approach to Fitness, Nutrition & Self-Trust with Kim Shambaugh

I'm often surprised by how rarely I hear therapist discuss the foundational role that fitness, nutrition, and daily habits play in our overall well-being. These practices are essential to embodied living, which is why I'm so excited to share this week's guest with you. In this episode, I'm joined by fitness coach and nutritionist Kim Shambaugh for a conversation that goes beyond calories, workouts, and meal plans. We explore how true health is built by reconnecting with your body, understanding its cues, and creating habits that support both your physical and emotional well-being. We explore the connection between nutrition, movement, mindset, and nervous system health. Kim shares practical insights on recognizing hunger and fullness cues, intentionally fueling your body, building a sustainable relationship with exercise, and letting go of rigid thinking. Trigger Warning: Please be aware that we discuss eating disorders, dieting, and body dysmorphia throughout this episode. Listen to my episode about how I lost 30lbs. 27. How I Lost 30lbs & What It Taught Me

For most of my life I've felt at odds with my body, wanting to escape it while also craving deeper embodiment. Somatic therapy taught me to relate to my emotional body in a healthy way, but it was my weight loss journey that helped me to establish a healier relationship to my physical body. About 1.5 years ago I lost 30 lbs. This process was gritty and hard. It asked me to show up day after day, and face so many pain points that I'd been ignoring. Ultimately it served as one of my most profound lessons in devotion, self-trust, and self-love. This episode is a vulnerable share about how religious and societal programming formed early distortions around how I perceive myself through my body, and how I've begun to heal those wounds.  Trigger Warning: Please be aware that I discuss weight loss, dieting, and body dysmorphia throughout this episode.
