ADHD, AI and Burnout: Helpful Tool, Dopamine Trap or Both? with Florian Pariset

Can AI genuinely support an ADHD brain, or can it become another source of hyperfocus, dopamine chasing and burnout? In this episode, Ellie speaks with Florian “Flo” Pariset, the ADHD founder of Notis, an AI assistant designed to do the work your brain refuses to do. Flo runs his profitable, bootstrapped company as a team of one, using AI agents to support research, content, follow-ups and everyday operations. But this is not a polished success story. Flo shares how two years of intense hyperfocus helped him build his company while also contributing to burnout, and how his ADHD diagnosis changed the way he understood both his work and himself. Together, Ellie and Flo explore both sides of AI. For many disabled and neurodivergent people, it can provide genuine accessibility, helping bridge the gap between wanting to complete something and being able to begin. At the same time, its speed, novelty and endless possibilities can intensify hyperfocus, feed the search for dopamine and remove the natural stopping points that protect our health and relationships. They also discuss the concerns people have about AI, including privacy, misinformation, employment, creative ownership, environmental impact and becoming overly dependent on technology. Topics include: • ADHD, AI and task paralysis • Hyperfocus, dopamine and burnout • Using AI for low-dopamine tasks • Running a company as a team of one • AI scepticism and legitimate concerns • What should never be delegated to technology • Accountability, boundaries and healthier guardrails • Using AI without sacrificing the life it is supposed to support This is an honest conversation about using AI intentionally, keeping human judgement accountable and recognising that technology does not have to be either the villain or the hero. Beautifully Unbroken: Trauma, Survival & Finding Hope | Adriene Caldwell

⚠️ TRIGGER WARNING This deeply emotional episode contains discussions of childhood sexual abuse, physical and emotional abuse, incest, mental illness, addiction, eating disorders, homelessness, foster care, the drowning death of a child, violence and suicide. Please listen with care and step away if you need to. In this powerful episode of AuDHD and Then Some, Ellie AuDHD Capstick speaks with Adriene Caldwell, author of the forthcoming memoir Unbroken: Life Outside the Lines. Adriene shares her extraordinary story of surviving childhood trauma, abuse, extreme poverty, homelessness and the foster care system. This is an honest and deeply moving conversation about what happens when a child is repeatedly failed by the people and systems that should have protected them. But Adriene’s story is not only about surviving. It is about refusing to be defined by what happened to her. Together, Ellie and Adriene explore the lasting effects of childhood trauma, learning to recognise and manage triggers, the complicated subject of forgiveness, the people and moments that can alter the course of a life, and what it really means to move from surviving to thriving. Adriene speaks openly about the realities faced by former foster children and the importance of offering genuine hope without minimising the cruelty and pain people have experienced. This episode is raw, emotional and incredibly important. It is a reminder that even when somebody is living through their darkest chapter, their story is not necessarily over. Navigating Grief and Resilience with Caron Grossman

    # Navigating Grief and Resilience with Caron Grossman > A heartfelt conversation on loss, recovery, and self-discovery. Caron Grossman’s journey weaves through the threads of grief, addiction, and recovery, offering profound insights on how to rebuild when life takes unexpected turns. ## The Essence of Caron In a candid conversation, Caron reflects on her identity beyond her titles. "I truly think I am the same person I was when I was two," she shares, emphasizing that her core essence remains unchanged despite life’s challenges. This perspective invites us to explore our own identities through the lens of our experiences. ## A Life Marked by Loss Carons life took a pivotal turn at the age of 13 when she lost her mother suddenly to a heart attack. This loss shaped her understanding of grief, but she insists, "I was me before my mom died." The suddenness of her mother's death left a void, one that she grappled with in solitude as her family struggled to communicate their grief. Despite this, Caron highlights the importance of being seen: "I lost that feeling of being seen... I love to offer people that option of being seen." ## The Power of Boundaries In discussing her past, Caron acknowledges the challenges of accepting others' behaviors due to her empathetic nature. "It’s gotten me in a lot of trouble," she admits, but emphasizes how establishing boundaries has been crucial for her well-being. ## Learning from Grief Carons ability to process grief was shaped by the lessons imparted by her mother before her passing. "She helped us go through that grief... but nobody else took that lesson," she reflects, highlighting the isolation that can accompany profound loss. Through her story, Caron invites listeners to find strength in their vulnerabilities and to embrace the journey of healing, no matter how daunting it may seem. As we close this chapter of Caron's story, consider the moments in your own life that have reshaped your identity. How do you see yourself amidst your experiences?
