Raising Curious Minds In An AI World

Should children be using AI, or should we be keeping them away from it completely? In this episode, I speak to Teacher Alex, a Grade R teacher, deputy principal, creative educator and parent, about what responsible AI use can look like for children of different ages. We explore why banning AI may leave children less prepared for the world they are growing into, but also why simply handing them a device without guidance can be dangerous. Alex shares practical examples from her classroom and home, including how she uses AI to: Adapt lessons for children who learn differentlySupport creativity without replacing hands-on learningHelp children express ideas they cannot yet write or drawTeach critical thinking and help children recognise fake contentIntroduce coding, robotics and digital skills through playSave planning time while improving the quality of her teachingCreate safer, more open conversations about technology at homeWe also discuss screen time, online safety, neurodiverse learning, AI-generated images, accessibility and the importance of helping children understand that AI can be useful without always being correct. AI will never teach a child what it feels like to touch a dog, climb a jungle gym or build something with their own hands. But, when it is used thoughtfully, it can help prepare them, support them and give them new ways to learn. The question is no longer simply whether children will use AI. It is whether the adults around them understand it well enough to guide them. Link To AI Game For Kids: https://chatgpt.com/g/g-6a425b97b9f88191b8e83348ee2da092-magic-maxs-magic-mix Send us Fan Mail

Claude Cowork: How to Set Up AI as Your Second Brain

Have you ever felt like you are explaining the same thing to AI over and over again? You start a new chat, add the same client background, explain the same project, upload the same files, and then copy and paste the answer somewhere else. Claude Cowork changes that. In this episode, Maxine explains how Claude Cowork can help you move from simply chatting with AI to actually delegating repeatable work. Instead of only giving you a response, Claude can work inside a specific folder, read files, create outputs, edit documents and run scheduled tasks. This episode covers the three foundations of getting started: Projects — so Claude has the right context and instructions File access — so Claude can work with selected folders on your computer Scheduled tasks — so recurring work can happen without you starting from scratch You’ll also hear practical examples for bookkeepers, corporate teams, entrepreneurs and anyone who works with repeat tasks, reports, research, client folders or weekly admin. Most importantly, Maxine also talks about safety: only give Claude access to the folders it needs, avoid sensitive documents like IDs and banking information, and always review important work before sending it out. In this episode, you’ll learn: What Claude Cowork is How it is different from a normal chatbot Why projects save time and reduce repeated context How folder access can reduce copying, pasting and re-uploading files How scheduled tasks can support weekly or monthly admin Real examples of Claude Cowork in business Why you still need to review AI outputs before using them How to start with one simple project this week Try this after listening: Download Claude Desktop from Anthropic, create one project, and set it up for one area of your work. Start small. Choose one client, one recurring task, or one folder you understand well. Safety reminder: Do not give AI access to folders containing sensitive personal information, banking details, IDs or private documents. Create a safe working folder first. AI in Your Microsoft World: Copilot, ChatGPT and Claude Inside Office

How many times did you open Word, Excel or PowerPoint this week? For many of us, these apps are part of everyday work. They feel familiar, reliable and almost invisible. But now, AI is starting to live inside those same tools. In this episode, Maxine looks at three AI tools you can use within the Microsoft Office space: Copilot for creating and improving PowerPoint presentations ChatGPT for working with Excel formulas, reports and data Claude for writing, rewriting and improving Word documents The big idea is simple: when AI works inside the app, it can see more context. That means less switching between tabs, less copying and pasting, and more useful support while you are already working. This episode is especially useful for South African small business owners, managers, freelancers, teams and everyday workers who want to start using AI in practical ways without learning a completely new system. In this episode, you’ll learn: Why using AI inside your documents is different from using it in a browser How Copilot can help you turn documents into presentations How ChatGPT can support Excel formulas, data checks and reports How Claude can help with proposals, business writing and tone Why context matters when asking AI for help A simple challenge you can try this week inside your own Microsoft tools Try this after listening: Pick one tool — Copilot, ChatGPT or Claude — and try it inside one Microsoft app you already use. Start with one real task, not a perfect experiment. Send us Fan Mail

From “AI is a Robot” to Running Smarter: Mathapelo Falata’s AI Journey

In this episode of AI for South Africa, Maxine sits down with Mathapelo Falata, founder and managing director of Mimi Consulting, author of Ready for the Marketplace, and one of the entrepreneurs who joined the HelpLink AI programme. When Mathapelo first joined the course, she thought AI was a robot. Today, she uses AI as a practical business tool to save time, create LinkedIn content, prepare podcast questions, support presentations, troubleshoot tech problems, and build confidence in her voice as a business owner. This conversation is honest, funny, and deeply relatable for any South African entrepreneur who has felt nervous, unsure, or even suspicious about AI. Mathapelo shares how AI helped her show up more confidently online, create content that still sounds like her, and use tools like ChatGPT and Canva without losing the human side of her work. The big message? AI is not here to replace your knowledge. It is here to help you enhance what you already do. In this episode, we talk about: Why Mathapelo first thought AI was “just a robot”How the HelpLink AI programme changed the way she worksUsing AI for LinkedIn articles and social media contentWhy business owners still need their own knowledge and experienceHow AI can get things wrong if you do not check its workUsing AI to prepare podcast questions and presentationsWhy South African context matters in AI learningMathapelo’s advice for small businesses who have not tried AI yetGuest: Mathapelo Falata Founder and Managing Director of Mimi Consulting Author of Ready for the Marketplace TikTok: readyforthemarketplace mimiconsulting_za FB: MiMi Consulting Instagram: mimi_consulting LinkedIn: MiMi Consulting mimiconsulting.co.za mathapelofalatsa.co.za Send us Fan Mail
