Beyond The Adjustment Ep. 020 | Dr. Cameron Allan – Chiropractic Roots, Clinical Confidence, and an Open Mind

What happens when a lifelong connection to chiropractic meets a new country, a different professional landscape, and a growing commitment to advocacy? In Episode 20 of Beyond the Adjustment, Dr. Chad Mykietiuk welcomes Dr. Cameron Allan, a second-generation chiropractor, New Zealand College of Chiropractic graduate, and longtime CNAC board member practising in British Columbia. Growing up in Australia, Cameron saw chiropractic practice from the inside. His father’s office became an early classroom, where he learned about patient care, communication, and the everyday work of running a practice. After considering a career in music, he followed his interest in chiropractic to New Zealand, where his education brought together philosophy, adjusting skills, research, and access to influential mentors. Cameron shares his journey from practising alongside his father in Australia to owning a practice in New Zealand and eventually moving to Canada with his wife and young family. He reflects on how those experiences shaped his approach to care—and how mentorship in British Columbia deepened his engagement with the research literature. Chad and Cameron also explore differences in chiropractic education and practice across countries, the importance of recognizing our own biases, and why curiosity matters when learning from colleagues. Their conversation considers the gap between enthusiasm inside a busy chiropractic office and broader public utilization, including financial barriers, practice management, professional identity, and collaboration. At its heart, this episode is about maintaining a clear sense of purpose while staying willing to listen, learn, and serve people better. Guest Bio Dr. Cameron Allan is a second-generation chiropractor practising in British Columbia and a longtime board member of the Canadian National Alliance for Chiropractic. Raised in Australia, Cameron developed an early interest in chiropractic through his father, a 1980 Palmer College graduate. Growing up around the family practice gave him firsthand experience with patient care, communication, and practice operations. Cameron completed his prerequisite studies at Auckland University of Technology before attending the New Zealand College of Chiropractic. During his studies, he became involved with the World Congress of Chiropractic Students, serving as his chapter’s head of research and participating in an international conference as a delegate. After graduation, he returned to Australia to practise alongside his father. He later moved back to New Zealand, where he and his wife—also a chiropractor—purchased a practice and started their family. They relocated to Canada in 2018 to be closer to her family. His experiences across Australia, New Zealand, and Canada have shaped his interest in chiropractic education, clinical excellence, research, and professional advocacy. Through practice, mentorship, and his work with CNAC, Cameron encourages chiropractors to remain curious, examine their assumptions, and keep service to patients at the centre of their work. https://www.pocochiropractic.com/ Join the CNAC The Canadian National Alliance for Chiropractic (CNAC) exists to support chiropractors who want to grow strong, successful practices while protecting the unique identity of chiropractic in Canada. Beyond The Adjustment Ep. 019 | Dr. Liz Anderson-Peacock: Four Decades of Passion, Purpose and Resilience

What keeps a chiropractor passionate after 40 years in practice? For Dr. Liz Anderson-Peacock, it comes back to the people she serves, the opportunity to keep learning, and a lifelong commitment to helping others transform. In Episode 19 of Beyond the Adjustment, Dr. Chad Mykietiuk welcomes chiropractor, author, speaker, and mentor Dr. Liz Anderson-Peacock for a conversation about family practice, personal growth, and finding greater ease in both practice and life. Liz shares how her approach to patient education has evolved—from group workshops in a busy practice to a more focused emphasis on stress regulation and family engagement. She discusses how she incorporates HeartMath practices into her work and why she prioritizes helping parents and children feel settled before introducing more information. For chiropractors interested in building a family or pediatric practice, Liz emphasizes starting with clear values and intentions, developing appropriate clinical skills, and understanding when collaboration or referral is needed. Drawing on her experience teaching ICPA modules since 1998, she highlights the value of practical training, thoughtful communication, and confidence grounded in competence. The conversation also explores the challenges of perfectionism. Liz offers a different approach: pursue mastery and excellence, remain open to feedback, and use reflection to support growth. She shares questions practitioners can ask themselves when a patient’s progress or their own goals do not unfold as expected. Finally, Liz reflects on how her amputation changed her outlook. Through a memorable story about rappelling down the outside of a Toronto hotel, she describes recognizing her instinct to push harder—and discovering how pausing, listening, and asking a better question opened a path forward. Guest Bio: Dr. Liz Anderson-Peacock is a chiropractor, author, speaker, and mentor with 40 years of experience in practice. Her work has focused extensively on children and families, alongside a commitment to continuing education, practitioner development, and helping people create meaningful change. Liz has taught four different modules for the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) since 1998 and has completed diplomate training through the International Chiropractors Association (ICA) pediatric program. She speaks internationally and brings decades of clinical experience to her teaching, emphasizing practical skills, communication, professional scope, and appropriate collaboration and referral. Now practicing part time with a primary focus on children, Liz incorporates HeartMath practices into her approach to working with families. Her mentoring encourages chiropractors to understand their own values, develop an authentic approach to practice, and pursue mastery and excellence while remaining open to learning. Her personal experience with amputation has also shaped her perspective on resilience, identity, and possibility. Through her teaching and conversations, she shares lessons about meeting challenges with curiosity, finding joy, and creating space for a different way forward. https://www.drliz.ca/ https://drlizspeaker.com/about/ Join the CNAC The Canadian National Alliance for Chiropractic (CNAC) exists to support chiropractors who want to grow strong, successful practices while protecting the unique identity of chiropractic in Canada. Beyond The Adjustment Ep. 018 | Returning to the Roots of Chiropractic with Dr. Max Saint-Denis

In Episode 18 of Beyond the Adjustment, host Dr. Chad Mykietiuk sits down with longtime friend, colleague, and CNAC Quebec representative Dr. Max Saint-Denis for a wide-ranging conversation about chiropractic philosophy, practice, patient communication, research, and the future of the profession. A second-generation chiropractor, Max grew up immersed in chiropractic. His father was a chiropractor, family vacations often revolved around chiropractic seminars, and many of the people around him growing up were chiropractors. By his early teens, Max already knew that chiropractic would become his profession. He attended Life University beginning in 1999 and graduated in 2003. From the beginning of the conversation, Max makes his position clear: chiropractic has become too focused on pain. He believes the profession risks losing the very thing that distinguishes chiropractic from other health professions — its philosophy and its focus on the nervous system. In This Episode Growing up as a second-generation chiropractorMax's journey to Life University and into practiceWhy chiropractic has become too focused on painChiropractic philosophy and professional identityThe role of the nervous system in chiropracticPhilosophy versus evidence — and why Max believes chiropractors need bothChallenges with conventional chiropractic research modelsBuilding trust with new patientsWhy chiropractors should listen more and question lessHandling objections without pressuring patientsUnderstanding patients' individual priorities and valuesIntroducing the bigger chiropractic picture from the first visitWhy chiropractors may be playing too smallMoving the profession from defense to offenceAdvocating confidently for chiropracticWhy the profession needs to stop fighting so many internal battlesReturning to chiropractic's roots and foundational principles Guest Bio: Dr. Max Saint-Denis is a second-generation chiropractor who has been immersed in chiropractic for virtually his entire life. Growing up as the son of a chiropractor, Max was surrounded by the profession from an early age. Chiropractic seminars were often part of family travel, and many of the chiropractors around his father became extended members of the family. Those early experiences gave Max a unique appreciation for chiropractic philosophy, community, and practice long before he entered the profession himself. By his early teenage years, he knew chiropractic would become his career. After completing his studies in Quebec, Max attended Life University in 1999, graduating as a chiropractor in 2003. Today, Max brings more than two decades of experience in practice along with a strong commitment to chiropractic philosophy, nervous-system-focused care, patient education, and advancing the profession. He also serves as Quebec representative for the Canadian National Alliance for Chiropractic (CNAC), helping represent Quebec chiropractors and contributing to CNAC's national advocacy and professional initiatives. Throughout his career, Max has remained passionate about preserving the principles that make chiropractic distinct while encouraging the profession to communicate more confidently, advocate for itself, and help more people understand chiropractic beyond pain relief.

Beyond The Adjustment Ep. 017 | Presence, Personal Development and Practice Growth with Dr. Jay Fortier

In this episode of Beyond the Adjustment, Dr. Chad Mykietiuk sits down with longtime friend, former CMCC classmate, and CNAC New Brunswick board representative Dr. Jay Fortier. Jay’s chiropractic journey began when he was just 12 or 13 years old after an injury led him to his first experience with chiropractic care. That experience left such an impression that he knew from an early age he wanted to become a chiropractor. Years later, after completing his undergraduate education at Western University and graduating from CMCC, Jay and his wife, Dr. Kelly Fortier, made their way to Fredericton, New Brunswick, where they have built their careers, their practice, and their family together. Chad and Jay explore what separates a good chiropractor from a great one, including the importance of intention, presence, communication, technical skill, and continually working to improve. They also have an open conversation about the value of lifelong learning and personal development. Jay shares some of the habits that help keep him grounded when life and practice become challenging, including exercise, spending time outdoors, learning from mentors, limiting outside noise, and deliberately focusing on the things within his control. The conversation also turns to one of the ongoing challenges for many chiropractors: building a successful practice while being fully present for your family. As a father of three, Jay discusses why he has learned to think less about achieving perfect “balance” and more about being present wherever he is — whether that is with a patient, at the office, or at home with his wife and children. Finally, Jay shares what it has been like building and operating a chiropractic practice alongside his wife, Dr. Kelly Fortier. He explains how their very different strengths complement one another, with Kelly bringing vision and energy while Jay helps create structure, consistency, and direction. It’s a candid conversation between two longtime friends about chiropractic, family, personal growth, resilience, and the realities of building a meaningful life in practice. Originally from Welland, Ontario, Jay first experienced chiropractic care as a teenager following a back injury. That experience had a lasting impact and inspired him to pursue chiropractic as a career. After completing his undergraduate studies at Western University, he went on to attend the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, where he graduated in 2008. It was also at CMCC that Jay met his future wife, Dr. Kelly Fortier. Following graduation, the couple moved to Fredericton, New Brunswick, where they have built their family, careers, and chiropractic practice together. Today, Jay and Kelly own and operate Uptown Chiropractic in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Over the course of his career, Jay has experienced many different sides of practice, including working as an associate, practicing in multidisciplinary settings, building a practice from the ground up, mentoring team members, and operating a clinic alongside his spouse. Jay is passionate about lifelong learning, mentorship, personal development, clinical excellence, and being fully present with the people he serves. Beyond The Adjustment Ep. 016 | Adjusting the Brain: Chiropractic Neurology with Dr. Patrick Freud

In this episode of Beyond the Adjustment, Dr. Chad Mykietiuk sits down with Dr. Patrick Freud, chiropractic neurologist, educator, and one of the early adopters of chiropractic neurology and functional neurology in Canada. Dr. Freud shares the fascinating path that led him from an early interest in anatomy, psychology, and neuroscience toward chiropractic. While studying at McGill University and initially expecting to pursue medicine, a simple statement from a chiropractor — that “the body is intelligent” — changed the direction of his career. From there, Dr. Freud developed a deep interest in the relationship between chiropractic and the nervous system. The conversation explores what chiropractic neurology and functional neurology actually mean, where they overlap with traditional chiropractic practice, and how a neurological understanding can influence everything from examination and adjusting to rehabilitation and patient management. Dr. Freud also discusses his work with complex neurological cases, including patients experiencing concussion, dizziness, movement disorders, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and other neurological conditions. After 30 years in practice, his clinic now attracts patients from a wide geographic area and maintains a substantial waiting list. Throughout the conversation, Dr. Freud emphasizes that functional neurology does not replace chiropractic. Instead, it builds upon chiropractic’s long-standing relationship with the nervous system by incorporating concepts such as neuroplasticity, vestibular rehabilitation, eye movements, sensory-motor integration, lifestyle factors, and targeted neurological exercises. Chad and Patrick also explore an important question for the profession: Are chiropractors too focused on pain? While pain remains one of the primary reasons people seek chiropractic care, Dr. Freud explains how those encounters can become an opportunity to help patients better understand their overall health, function, lifestyle, and nervous system. Guest Bio Dr. Patrick Freud is a chiropractor, chiropractic neurologist, educator, and longtime practitioner with approximately 30 years of clinical experience. With an academic background in anatomy and psychology from McGill University, Dr. Freud developed an early fascination with neuroscience, pain, and brain function. His interest eventually led him to chiropractic and later into advanced study in chiropractic neurology and functional neurology. Over the course of his career, Dr. Freud transitioned from a more traditional chiropractic practice toward a strong focus on neurological cases. His clinical work includes patients experiencing concussion, dizziness, movement disorders, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and a wide range of other neurological presentations. Dr. Freud integrates chiropractic care with neurological rehabilitation strategies, targeted exercises, vestibular and sensory-motor approaches, lifestyle recommendations, and multidisciplinary collaboration. He is also passionate about chiropractic education and helping chiropractors better connect the neurological knowledge they already possess with the way they assess and care for patients in everyday practice. https://cliniquefreud.ca/ https://www.youtube.com/c/PatrickFreud https://adjustingthebrain.com/

Beyond The Adjustment Ep. 015 | Dr. Colin Elkin – Principle, Purpose & Building a 1,200-Visit-Per-Week Practice

In this episode of Beyond the Adjustment, Dr. Chad Mykietiuk sits down with longtime chiropractor, coach, consultant and international speaker Dr. Colin Elkin for a wide-ranging conversation about chiropractic philosophy, practice growth, communication and the future of the profession. Colin shares the unlikely path that brought him into chiropractic, beginning with his years as a university athlete at the University of Guelph, where he was part of the 1984 Vanier Cup championship football team. With no family background in chiropractic and little understanding of the profession at the time, Colin eventually found his way to the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago before transferring to CMCC, where he met his future wife and practice partner, Dr. Kim. After graduation, Colin and Kim opened a small practice in Bradford, Ontario. Their original approach looked much like what they had learned in school, incorporating a variety of therapeutic modalities. But an introduction to Dynamic Essentials and Dr. Jim Sigafoose dramatically changed Colin's understanding of chiropractic and ultimately transformed the way they practiced. Colin describes the decision to remove the modalities from their office and focus their communication and care around the chiropractic principle and the correction of vertebral subluxation. What initially felt uncomfortable became a major turning point in their practice. Over time, their focus on communicating chiropractic throughout their community helped create extraordinary growth. Through community talks, screenings, churches, businesses, support groups and other outreach efforts, the Elkíns eventually developed one of the highest-volume chiropractic practices in Canada, reaching approximately 1,200 patient visits per week. Chad and Colin also explore some of the larger questions facing chiropractic today, including the meaning of “evidence-based” practice, the influence of economics and insurance on the direction of healthcare, the role of chiropractic education, and whether the profession has drifted away from some of its foundational principles. This conversation is an exploration of what can happen when a chiropractor develops clarity around their purpose, becomes confident communicating that message and creates the systems necessary to serve a large community. Guest Bio Dr. Colin Elkin is a chiropractor, coach, consultant and international speaker with more than 30 years of experience in the chiropractic profession. Before entering chiropractic, Colin studied Human Kinetics at the University of Guelph, where he also played football for the Guelph Gryphons and was part of the university’s 1984 Vanier Cup championship team. Colin began his chiropractic education at the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago before transferring to the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC), where he met his wife and future practice partner, Dr. Kim. Together, Colin and Kim established their practice in Bradford, Ontario. What began as a small practice grew into one of the highest-volume chiropractic practices in Canada, at one point serving more than 1,200 patient visits per week. A major influence in Colin’s career was his introduction to Dr. Jim Sigafoose and Dynamic Essentials. That experience helped reshape his understanding of chiropractic philosophy, communication and purpose, and became a major catalyst in the growth of his practice. Today, Colin brings decades of clinical and practice experience into his work as a coach, consultant and speaker, helping chiropractors develop greater clarity in their philosophy, communication, leadership and practice. He also remains passionate about the future of chiropractic education and the continued advancement of neurologically focused, subluxation-based chiropractic in Canada and internationally.

Beyond The Adjustment Ep. 013 | Scott Campbell & Chris Scheele – Building Financial Freedom in Chiropractic Practice

Running a successful chiropractic practice doesn't automatically mean you have a successful financial plan. In this episode of Beyond the Adjustment, Dr. Chad Mykietiuk sits down with Scott Campbell and Chris Scheele of Align Wealth, a financial planning firm focused specifically on Canadian chiropractors. Scott and Chris have seen firsthand what happens when successful practice owners operate without a clear financial strategy. From treating the practice like an ATM and reacting to tax bills after the fact, to endlessly reinvesting in the clinic without building personal wealth, seemingly small financial habits can have a major impact over the course of a career. The conversation explores how chiropractors can become more intentional about cash flow, paying themselves, debt, investing and practice growth — while building financial systems that support the life they actually want. Rather than searching for complicated financial tricks, Scott and Chris make the case for something much more powerful: clarity, structure, consistency and a proactive long-term plan. Key Takeaways: Have a plan before you need one. One of the recurring problems Scott and Chris see is chiropractors withdrawing money from their corporations whenever they need it and dealing with the tax consequences later. A deliberate strategy around income, taxes and cash flow can remove much of that uncertainty. Build good systems early. Creating strong bookkeeping, cash-flow and financial reporting habits early in your career becomes increasingly valuable as your practice grows. You don't always have to choose between debt reduction and investing. High-interest debt deserves particular attention, but building the habit of saving and investing while also reducing debt can establish financial behaviours that serve you for decades. Growth should have a purpose. A bigger clinic, more staff and higher revenue can look impressive from the outside, but growth only matters if it moves you toward your personal and professional goals. Revenue isn't the same as profitability. A relatively simple practice with controlled overhead, strong systems and excellent profitability may create considerably more freedom than a larger practice with significantly higher expenses. Your financial beliefs matter. Everyone develops a "money story" based on family, upbringing and life experience. Becoming aware of those beliefs — and being willing to challenge them when necessary — can dramatically influence financial decision-making. There are no magic tax tricks. Good planning isn't about finding secret ways around Canada's tax system. It's about understanding the rules, planning proactively and structuring your finances intelligently within them. Guest Bios: Scott Campbell, CFP®, CCS™ Scott is the Founder and Financial Planner at Align Wealth. He launched his independent financial planning practice in 2016 before making the decision to specialize in serving Canadian chiropractors. His goal is to help chiropractors create financial clarity and build long-term freedom through comprehensive planning that extends far beyond investment management. Chris Scheele, QAFP™ Chris is a Financial Planner at Align Wealth. After operating his own independent financial planning practice, Chris joined Align Wealth in 2024. His approach emphasizes comprehensive planning, strong financial systems and helping clients make intentional decisions that connect their finances with the lives they want to build. Together, Scott and Chris work specifically with Canadian chiropractors on the financial realities of practice ownership and personal wealth — including business cash flow, compensation, taxes, investing and long-term planning.
