Words cannot express how indebted I am to have found this podcast and community! It is because of Shannon and her guests that we have changed the trajectory of our life as a family for the better. I have yet to find another place with such a wealth of information and encouragement within the ASD community. Professionals and providers would do their clients and the clients’ families a great service to learn from this podcast! Shannon’s mentorship, wisdom based on experience, empathy, passion, and love resonate through each episode! She cares deeply for her listeners and goes above and beyond to offer her wholehearted support and trusted guidance. This podcast is always my “play next” choice when a new episode drops - a beautiful companion for those epic mountaintop days, the relentless times in the trenches, and everything in between.
Great podcast but!

Great podcast with tons of great information. I just listened to your episode on food and found it super interesting. But I have to point out that the symptoms you describe experiencing as an allergy to chocolate and ice cream are NOT food allergy! As someone who is a parent to a peanut allergic kid it’s important that you characterize this stuff correctly. You describe symptoms by saying something like the food was not “sitting well with you” or that you can’t eat a lot of ice cream like you used to. Food allergy refers to an IgE mediated allergy that affects the immune system. Even eating small amounts can trigger a range of symptoms like hives, wheezing, vomiting, and anaphylaxis and requires an epipen. In contrast, a food intolerance affects only the digestive system and causes less severe symptoms. It’s important to get this stuff right for restaurants, public knowledge, etc so that people know the true severity of giving an item to someone with a food allergy that could be life-threatening vs an intolerance that would merely cause stomach issues. Otherwise great and super helpful information!! I’m really enjoying your podcast.

Some good info, not great navigation

From what I've heard so far, this podcast has some good info for service providers and families. I wish the episode list would provide a short blurb regarding the topic being discussed ...right now it either says "like autism live on Facebook" or it gives the name of the person or organization being interviewed (which is not helpful if you are unfamiliar with the person/organization). Also, I wish there was an option to have audio only. Video podcasts are glitchy on my iPad and there is no need for video if you're only showing people are n an interview room. Video is useful when you're showing something in action, or showing how to do something, but it's unnecessary for interviews.
