Stephen Kingcast

Overall, I really like this podcast. Took me too long to find it. Not sure how I missed it. The honest loves Stephen King’s work - and that comes through every episode. The only thing I’ll saw after getting through about 7 episodes (lots to go) is that I disagree with a decent amount of his “takes” on some elements of the King catalogue. His scathing review of the 1979 tv mini-series of “‘Salem’s Lot” was just awful in my view. I could barely make it through it. The host sounds like someone without the attention span to pay attention to something longer than a few seconds. Also, in the episode on the “‘Salem’s Lot” novel, this guy really hates on the character of Susan Norton to the point of absurdity - and, of course, we are subjected to the usual lecture on King’s supposed insensitivity to women characters early in his career. I don’t see it, and it feels like he’s looking at the past through a modern self-righteous lens rather than seeing the work as a product of its time (and a generational classic, by the way). All that aside, this podcast is a LOT of fun so far. The host’s love for Stephen King makes up for most of the things that I find annoying. Each episode feels like talking to an old friend after you both finished a King novel. Well worth your time!

I have been following the Stephen Kingcast for more than a year. I thought I already posted a review but I guess I haven’t. If you are a Stephen King fan, this is the podcast for you. Over ten years this podcast has been giving you in-depth reviews and commentary on Stephen King’s stories, books, and movies. He has recently reorganized the podcast so it is very easy to listen chronologically, or piecemeal as you read Stephen King’s books. Recently finished the Dark Tour and his Analysis on that was amazing

Unfortunately the ads have just overrun this podcast. Used to love listening but can’t spend half my time trying to skip ads.

I had read the book once upon a time and thought it was decent enough, so I thought I’d give this a try. The episode is 41 minutes. The first 15 minutes “FIFTEEN!!!” minutes of this podcast was ads and him telling me about the patreon page. I thought Amazon did too many ads. The next 13 minutes were dedicated to letters written in, where the guy proceeds to tell me more about his patreon page and how great it is. Finally, with about 12 min left he says let’s talk about Ellen rimbauer. He then spends about 5 min reading the wiki page and then another few minutes just summarizing the plot. With 5 min left we finally get his thoughts. It’s a movie. It’s not good. It’s not bad. It just is. 90 seconds of “analysis” out of a 41 min podcast. And it’s only 90 seconds because he spends the last 3:30 talking about his upcoming podcasts , and, of course, the patreon page. How this podcast has a 4.7 rating is beyond me. He spent more than half of the actual “review” reading off of Wikipedia. UnreaI. I almost gave it 2 stars just for the audacity but then I thought better of it. There are so many better podcasts that actually talk about the topic they say they are going to talk about.
