#853 - Let the Countdown begin!

We’re back with Episode 853 as we get ready for the official start of Duke Basketball with Countdown to Craziness! Countdown always marks the official start of the preseason, and Donald and Jason couldn’t be more excited for all the festivities. Of course, it all begins on Friday with the annual Dribble for Victory over Cancer! We are partnering with August, a young cancer survivor who has formed a team to unite all DBR Podcast listeners. Please follow this link and make a donation as we try to get August over his goal: https://charity.pledgeit.org/PCRF-DukeDribble/teams/@DBRPodcastFriends. We also discuss what we want to see at Countdown, whether it’s the dunk contest, the matchups, or the competition. Both the men’s and women’s teams are going to put on a show, and we can’t wait. We also got #AnotherOne! Luke Paul commits to Duke during our recording, so we discuss what the 6’6” Aussie will bring to Durham next year. He has a lot of potential and we’re thrilled to have him come in to compete with the rest of the point guards. We end our show by discussing where Duke Football ranks among P4 teams in the number of homegrown players taking snaps as well as the future of the show and our new destination. #852 - Coach Scheyer joins the pod!

We teased that something special was coming this week, and here it is! On Episode 852, Duke Men’s Basketball head coach Jon Scheyer joins the pod to talk to Donald and Jason on a number of topics! We break our conversation down into several topics, from roster construction and scheduling to this year’s team and the rotations we might see in the preseason and as the season begins. We also touch on the team and play word association with Coach on the incoming freshmen. Finally, we close with what he’s hoping to improve as the preseason gets underway and the future of college basketball, NIL, and the transfer portal as the Protect College Sports Act passes the Senate and awaits its day in the House. Don’t forget the annual Dribble for Victory over Cancer is coming up on Friday! The DBR Podcast is urging all of you to make a donation to support our team as we partner with August, a young man who bravely beat cancer himself who just wants to encourage other cancer survivors. #851 - Mashing W&M and more hoops scrimmage video

Duke football continues to roll the opposition, beating William & Mary in a game that had folks going back to the 1940s for comparisons. The Duke Basketball Roundup breaks down what it all means and how things are shaping up for the football devils as they move forward. After the break, there is more preseason info about the basketball Blue Devils for the podcast to dive into. We got some more scrimmage video and, once again, Jason as broken down who scored and how. As always, four minutes of video inspires fourteen minutes of conversation... maybe more. Last but not least, the annual Dribble for Victory over Cancer is coming up in one week on the Duke campus. The entire basketball team will be taking part, meeting fans and taking photos. The DBR Podcast is urging all of you to make a donation to support our team as we partner with August, a young man who bravely beat cancer himself and now want to encourage other cancer survivors. #850 - Duke loses a cherished family member

On this edition of the Duke Basketball Roundup we have the very difficult task of talking about the passing of Chris Spatola, Coach K's son-in-law and someone who had a profound impact on the Duke program. After serving our nation in the military, Chris coached when Jon Scheyer was at Duke and then became a familiar voice on ESPN broadcasts. This is a hard day for the Duke community. Before dealing with the news about Chris, the DBR Podcast crew spends some time previewing the football contest with William and Mary. Though the oddsmakerssay this one is not going to be a competitive contest, every opponent deservesrespect and there are still things the Duke team needs to work on as it seeks toget to 4-0 on the season. #849 - Football lays wood to Stanford

Well, that was fun. The Duke football team chopped down the Stanford Cardinal to begin the defense of their ACC Title. The Duke Basketball Roundup crew breaks down the many ways Duke dominated this contest, starting with an OLine and RB who made a mockery of Stanford's claim that it boasts a strong run defense. Jason and Donald also look around the ACC a bit to see where Duke's toughest competition will come from in the conference race. After the break. there is a bit of basketball news to discuss. Jon Scheyer gave an in depth interview to national college basketball journalist Jon Rothstein with some fascinating insight into how Schyer is approaching his future at Duke as well as a couple nuggets about what he plans to do with all that depth on the 2026-27 team. #847 - Stanford Preview and Football NIL estimates

The football Blue Devils have their first ACC game of the season this weekend as the Stanford Cardinal come to Durham. The Duke Basketball Roundup takes a moment to preview what to expect from the contest as Duke seeks to remain undefeated in football. After the break, the guys dive into a brand new estimate of what schools are spending in NIL for their football teams and you may be shocked at how Duke is one of the better teams in the land despite having the second smallest football budget among power conference schools. Oh, and before they go, Jason and Donald take a stab at the shocking comments from Jason Williams about whether or not he was illegally paid when he played basketball for Duke. #846 - Champaign Victory and the full schedule arrives!

It was a packed weekend of Duke sports starting with a huge victory for the football Blue Devils on the road at Illinois. The DBR Podcast crew breaks down an impressive outing that began with the Nate Train rumbling for big yards and ended with the defensive secondary making big plays to seal the win. As Manny Diaz notes, the fact that Duke has now beaten two teams it lost to a year ago speak volumes about the quality of the current Blue Devils. After the break, Jason and Donald dive into some basketball news. They start with the release of the full ACC schedule, which includes a murderous final stretch that is sure to test Duke and prepare the team for March Madness. The guys also talk about the NBA All-Stars who showed up on campus this weekend for a gather of the Brotherhood. Scott Rich has low EQ

Blue Gator Fan

I thought I enjoyed Scott Rich as a new participant. But now you can toss him. I hope Jason comes back at him for his defense of Nik. Scott has no comprehension of the animus toward UConn in the fan base. He is oblivious to the history—of talks as if he is. He may have high IQ but he is in the bottom 5% on EQ! Just an idiot! He can take his advice about this is the way it will be in the NIL era and we should wish Nik well and sell it on another podcast. We don’t need him or Nik anymore—unless Scott repents of his idiocy.
My favorite podcast!
