Podcast Transcript Naren: Hello everyone! Welcome to another amazing episode of the less insurance dependence podcast show. This is Naren, your co-host. We have now been doing this for a long time and we have quite a lot of episodes for those of you who haven't listened to the past episodes jump in and binge-listen. Today's topic is going to be an awesome topic. It's a topic that will make everyone in your practice stronger. One of the questions people ask you if you start resigning from the insurance plan is, Why are you not taking my insurance anymore? And you as a person, as a doctor, as a team has to be able to answer this effectively. So, this is an episode that you may want to listen not just once, but multiple times with your team. This is something you need to bookmark and use it as a tool. We'll also give you some scripts like a pdf so definitely take advantage of that and keep it, but before I jump in I want to share some feedback I’ve been getting from some clients of Gary’s who have signed up for the virtual practice management support system, sorry virtual coaching and practice management support system. The thing I hear a lot Gary from these clients is, I always wished I had someone like Gary in my practice just like Paul and Tim have Gary for the business side of LifeSmiles and that's why they are in the top one-fourth of one percent I could do the same if I had someone like Gary and I think this practice management support system you created and you continue to tweak and improve Gary is really, really, the answer for that. So, this way the dentists can do dentistry which is what they love while your team and the practice management support system make sure all this all the systems are working and all the elements are working and they get better and better at it. So I just wanted to say that Gary and any comments on that what is your experience with that Gary?
Gary: Naren, I’m so excited about what we're doing because so often I’ve heard from dentists that say  I wish I could just put my head down and just focus on nothing but the dentistry and man I get that, I  get that. That's your superpower, right? That's what you love but the truth is there's an outlier dentist that enjoys the business side, there's an outlier. Often times they have an MBA. They're a DDS or DMD, MBA and the outlier dentist kind of enjoys it but I would say 95 percent of the dentists in the world, the business stuff is just a necessary, it's a necessary thing they have to do. They don't really love it and as a result they kind of stumble with it because it's not their thing. Conversely, I love it and by the way, our team loves everything about the business side of dentistry. So we put together a really cool system to provide the support, the ongoing support, so that the dentist can pay attention to what they love which is the clinical side of their practice and then they can know if they can rest easy and know full well that everything's being taken care of on the business side in a way that's consistent with their value system that's consistent with the way they would like to do it and

Podcast Transcript Naren: Hello everyone. Welcome to another awesome episode of the less insurance dependence podcast show. This is Naren, your co-host. Today we have an amazing exciting topic for you. This was something that many, many, people wrote in and asked Gary about. We called it your ASAP list. Gary has spent a lot of time over the last 40 years in his coaching work as well as in his life smiles dental care practice figuring out how to handle patients who have a pattern of cancellations and no-shows. So, this is going to be a treat. Before I get into the podcast, I have an announcement. We have MBA coming up on July 17th and 24th, 4 p.m. To 8 p.m. Eastern. I wanted to first talk to Gary about what happened with the MBA he just got done yesterday. So, Gary good evening. How are you this evening?
Gary: Hey Naren, I'm doing great. As we're recording this, I'm sort of feeling the afterglow of having just finished our June one-day thriving dentist MBA. Now this we needed to retitle the name because we didn't do it in one day. We actually took three evenings. We want to try to present different formats to try to be accommodating to folks’ schedules and so we did it. A nine-hour program. We did three hours on Tuesday night, three hours on Wednesday night, and three hours on Thursday night. And man, that was fun we had so much engagement by our attendees. One of the things we do in that thriving dentist MBA workshop, the workshop is all about the ten elements of a thriving practice. We actually turn the workshop into a coaching experience and we do that two ways. We do it through exercises. So, each one of the elements, each one of them has an exercise. A simple exercise but it's something for our doctors and office managers to do in the workshop that will allow them to take the information and apply it to their practice and the second thing we do is throughout the entire course they're invited to submit questions and then we have specific time to have Q and A sessions to answer their questions and I know you were there the entire time there and helping me moderate it but man the engagement level was amazing and I feel like we are turning out ambassadors to go out and apply these ten elements in their practice and I felt really good about it and it was such a great experience. I can't wait till the one in July. Now July is a little bit different. Again, we're experimenting with formats. Same content but we're going to do it in two sessions and two four-hour sessions. So, four hours on Friday the 17th of July and then the following Friday we're going to complete the one-day workshop and that should be convenient for some and I just want to consider this an invitation to come join. If one of the elements of course is becoming less insurance dependent. So, if you listen to this podcast, you're going to absolutely treasure that one-day MBA because a big part of it is all about successfully reducing insurance dependence.
Naren: Thank you so much Gary for that and I do think you're also doing a big service because you're not only offering this to people who don't know anything about the 24 elements and sort of 10 elements in the 24 systems but you extended it to

N: This is the less insurance dependent podcast with my good friend Gary Takacs and myself Naren Arulrajah. G: We appreciate your listenership, we appreciate your time, we appreciate your intention to reduce insurance dependence in your practice. Our goal is to provide information to you that will allow you to successfully reduce dependency on insurance and make this your best year yet. Thank you.
N: Hello everyone. Welcome to another episode of the Less Insurance Dependence podcast show. Today’s episode is a very powerful episode – it’s called the ‘Your readiness checklist’ but before I talk about that I want to kind of share my thoughts on why this is a powerful episode.
See people are either choosing you because you are on their insurance, or people are either choosing you because you are ready to care of them at a level in which that accompany their pay out of their pocket – is ready to take care of them.
So your readiness checklist came out of Gary’s time spent over the last 40 years working with private practices to get them ready. So there are lots and lots of different reasons why people chose those practices and why people chose to stay with those practices. For example – 80% of Gary’s patients toady are not on insurance vs in 2007 80% of them were on insurance. So how did all these other people who don’t have insurance plus the people who do have insurance decide to go to Gary even though they are not in the network?
So it is a great episode and if you want to get a crash course on how this happens and you are not one of Gary’s coaching clients I would recommend you take the MBA. There’s one coming up in July – go to the ThrivingDentist.com/MBA. Its 2 evenings, 2 Friday evenings – check it out. There are also other dates and formats – pick the one you like. So Gary lets jump into today’s topic ‘Your readiness checklist’.
G: You know Naren I wish that I would have had this readiness checklist when we started to go out of network in 2007. I wish I would have had this because it’s almost like a- imagine you are building a house and you don’t have a blueprint. How would that go? *laughs* Not really well. Why do you need the blueprint? Because you need all the details - I wish I could have this when we were out of the network I 2007 – we

Dr.TCReed ,

Thanks!

Gentlemen,

Your content has been instrumental and foundational in me finally creating an insurance independent platform to take my practice up the ladder! A decade ago, we attempted to exit network participation without a real game plan. News flash...it did not work. Fast forward to 2019, and we now have a fully built and written system that we launched in late 2019. The pinnacle will be the planned exit from Delta in 2021. After acquiring a second practice location last fall, the plan is to implement this strategy once they are fully converted into our overall culture, operating processes, and protocols. We routinely incorporate the podcast content in our growth and development endeavors as well. To anyone browsing podcast land for great dental practice Mgt content, look no further and subscribe! You will likely binge listen once you start!
I look forward to meeting up with you and many other like-minded dental professionals at the One Day MBA Workshop in Austin. Thanks, Dr. Tom Reed
