In this episode I sit down with Jeremiah Bishop. Jeremiah is a professional Mountain Bike Racer, and cycling coach, and has spent the last couple of decades traveling all over the world competing in and winning some of the most grueling races. Most recently though, Jeremiah started working on a project called “The Impossible Route”. Kasey Clark- Velo Pigs & America's Routes

A few months ago while on a gravel ride with one of the local cycling clubs, the Haymarket Blue Ridge Cyclists, I heard about a guy named Kasey Clark and a ride that he had just recently done where he rode all of the gravel roads in Loudoun County in 24 hours. I was also informed that he too had a cycling club called the Velo Pigs. Well, between the awesome ride he had recently done, and with a club name like that, I thought, I have got to find out more about Kasey, and try to get him on the podcast. At the time I didn’t realize that his journey and that ride had been filmed, and I happened to stumble across a video on YouTube called Gravel Spotlight: Kasey Clark. It’s an 8 minute video that spotlights Kasey and his ride that he did. In this episode, we’ll learn a little more about who Kasey is, his love for cycling, and about the ride he did and why he did it. Thank you for listening and I hope you enjoy. If you'd like to contact Kasey and the Velo Pigs or to find out more about the route Kasey did with America's Routes, please see the contact info and links below: Website: https://velopigs.org Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1479660972111107 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/velopigs/ America's Routes: https://americasroutes.com Kasey's Route Strava File: https://www.strava.com/activities/4271979692 Video of Kasey's Ride: https://americasroutes.com/video/ If you like what you heard on tonight's podcast, consider following me at the following social media sites: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Brandons-Bikes-103452284967725 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwDX_0MKaBOZlNVbqF2QhxQ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brandonsbikes/ Email: brandon@brandonsbikes.com

  3. Dave Latourette Part 4- RockStar Training Plan and Power

Dave Latourette Part 4- RockStar Training Plan and Power

Since around the summer of 2020, I started thinking about doing some sort of bike packing trip. I dont know where the idea came from, but I started watching a lot of YouTube videos, researching gear, reading articles, etc. Around October of 2020 I heard about the Virginia Endurance Series and the race they put on called RockStar. This particular race has 3 different routes. The trail route is a MTB route that is the most challenging, then there’s the gravel route which is slightly less challenging, but still challenging for a gravel bike, and then there’s the Pave route. The Pave route is the road route and is 165 miles with 10,000 ft of elevation gain. I initially was thinking of signing up for the gravel route, but I talked myself out of it. Honestly, it was just too much to wrap my head around. There’s a lot of fitness, gear, and time for the event that I either didn’t have or didn’t think I had. Essentially I got in my own head. Since October I have been consistently riding roughly 100 miles per week, lifting weights, and doing yoga in preparation for when the registration went live. Due to COVID, it was touch and go on whether the event was even going to happen, but the registration finally went live, and I signed up and got a coach on the first day of registration. I knew as soon as I signed up that there was a lot of training to do in a short amount of time, but I also have complete faith in my coach, as well as in my own commitment to training for something that I really want to do. I have already done 3 previous episodes with my coach, Dave Latourette, but this episode is different in the sense that it focuses on me and my race, instead of someone else and their race. In this episode we discuss how how and why behind my particular training plan, and how to start training with my new power meter and smart trainer. As we get closer to the event we will do more episodes and discuss race particulars, plan A’s, plan B’s, goals, and go a little deeper with the why behind some of the workouts. Stay tuned for those!!! In the mean time, thank you for listening and I hope you enjoy. 4. Joe Coppola- Bike Fitting

    25/01/2021

    Joe Coppola- Bike Fitting

In this episode I speak with Joe Coppola. Joe is the owner of the bike shop VeloConcepts in Culpeper, VA. VeloConcepts is central Virginia’s leading fitting lab, and is one of 4 fitters in the country that uses a combination of the GURU Dynamic Fitting Unit (DFU), STT Systems full body three dimensional motion capture system and a saddle pressure mapping system. Another thing that sets VeloConcepts apart from other bike shops is that they are a “fit first” bike shop. This is explained in more detail in the episode, but essentially you get fitted for you bike, before you pick the bike out. This way you know when your bike comes in that it’s custom fitted to you without any unnecessary and expensive aftermarket upgrades. In this episode Joe will explain to us the benefit of a properly fitted bike, and everything that goes into that process. Additionally, Joe’s fitting process is not just for road bikes, but all types of bike as well as stationary bikes like Peloton. So for all you spin class people out there, Joe can help you get fully set up on your stationary bike. Thank you for listening and I hope you enjoy.
