    Law School - Chapter One

    In "Chapter One," the story begins with a deceptively playful narrator, a cat of eternal origin, recounting the tale of a nine-year-old boy named Mark who dares to speak to him in a park. What starts as a curious exchange between a wandering supernatural being killing time and a ragged, homeless child quickly blossoms into months of life-changing lessons about money, value, existence, and the tricks woven into reality. But their time comes to an end when men in suits arrive to collect Mark, and the cat watches from afar as the boy is "cured" of his so-called madness, given a scholarship, and launched into the world, sharper, more dangerous, and more entertaining than ever before. By the end of law school, Mark has turned a cruel public betrayal by a jealous classmate and his fake girlfriend into a master class in wit and strategy, announcing his own law firm on live television. What follows is a sharp-tongued negotiation that leaves Velvet hired as his permanent assistant at outrageously unfair terms and somehow thrilled about it. As their first working day begins, a quiet battle of wills unfolds through stolen glances, cold professionalism, and a suspiciously well-timed table and chair delivery. Meanwhile, a ghost in the corner of the office gets exactly one warning look from Mark and wisely decides to leave.     In "Chapter Five," the gang ventures deep into the demon world, where Mark must do what he does best  argue, charm, and outmaneuver a being of enormous pride and ancient power. The Golem, king of demons, sits on his throne fully convinced he has already won, until Mark calmly invokes the one word that turns the atmosphere cold: the executioners. What follows is one of the most revealing exchanges in the book, as power bows not to force but to knowledge, and a truce is struck. But the peace barely lasts. On their way back, the trio is ambushed by men in black suits and dragged into an underground interrogation  where the full weight of the chaos they unwittingly unleashed is laid at their feet. Through it all, Nusaiba's unexpected jealousy, Velvet's quiet devotion, and Mark's impossible composure keep the chapter alive with tension, humor, and heart.     In "Chapter Six," the story descends literally  into an underwater temple glowing with wonder  as Mark and the gang are brought before the great whale to retrieve a fallen angel who has been hiding beneath the sea for ages. The angel, sharp and all-knowing, doesn't even wait for an explanation before announcing he'll help, having already received word from the heavens. Within moments, he sweeps them all off their feet and launches them skyward at impossible speed and they pass out somewhere above the clouds. While Mark rises toward the sky palace, the cat narrator turns his gaze back to the surface, peeling back years of hidden history: his own schemes, the human groups hunting supernatural power, a teenage Mark who almost tore the veil on his own, and the moment the cat had to step in and save them both. This chapter is a masterful two-track story, interweaving the present mission with the full, unsettling truth of how the world arrived at this breaking point.
