The Pod Shop is WAMU’s initiative to train and support aspiring podcasters in the Washington, D.C., region. The inaugural group of creators spent three months learning the ins and outs of podcast production and developing their original projects.

    Perpetual Blackness Pilot

    Nichelle Calhoun has chased stories of the Black experience internationally and nationally. Perpetual Blackness brings that search back to her roots in the D.C. metro area, where she believes her past and present intersect most poetically. Perpetual Blackness tells the stories of the DMV’s many layers of diasporic Blackness as it parallels Nichelle’s family’s journey over nine generations — from enslavement in rural Virginia to contemporary life in one of the country’s Blackest, bougiest suburbs.     Jordan Chacon is a Jewish Latina born and raised in the D.C. metro area. She studied environmental sciences and sociology at University of Wisconsin−Madison and now pursues her passion for cooking and eating as a chef in D.C. Mixed Until Combined highlights the changing face and voice of America’s food culture and society. Jordan brings listeners behind the line and into the kitchens of chefs with mixed identities who combine their background, experiences, personality and soul into culinary art.
