Never Off Duty: Perfectionism and Motherhood

Dr. Cassidy Freitas grew up watching her mom — a Hispanic judge who fought her way into white male spaces with no margin for error — come home carrying that same no-error version of herself. Her dad pushed straight A's as the path to financial safety. She absorbed all of it. And then she became a mom. She had a plan. A written, formatted, shared-with-her-doctor birth plan. When it fell apart in the operating room — her daughter already here, her husband saying "look at her," and Cassidy turning her face away — the drive that had gotten her through everything else had nothing to offer her. Dr. Cassidy is a therapist and the author of Mom Needs a Moment. In this conversation with Dr. Becky, she traces how perfectionism forms in childhood as a survival strategy, why it works right up until you have a baby, and what it actually looks like to loosen the grip without losing your edge. There's a phrase she comes back to: context is the bridge to compassion. You can't have compassion for the way perfectionism shows up in you as a mom if you don't understand where it came from. * Looking for more support navigating pregnancy, postpartum, and life with a new baby? Good Inside Baby gives you practical tools, scripts, and expert guidance for the moments that can feel most overwhelming in early parenthood. Father’s Day Special: The Reality of Surrogacy as a Same-Sex Couple

They join Gi to share their remarkable journey to parenthood, including the moment their first surrogate withdrew from the process, how their own childhoods shaped the parents they wanted to be, and the joy of welcoming their beautiful baby Leven to the world. Adam and Jamie also open up about the public scrutiny they’ve faced as a same-sex couple starting a family, and why they’re advocating for surrogacy law reform to better recognise intended parents from birth. You can learn more about Adam and Jamie’s petition to change surrogacy law here Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The Secret to Becoming a Calm Parenting Leader

#184 In this episode, Lisa discusses her thoughts on the importance of focusing on connection over discipline. She covers the trap of focusing too much on discipline, putting in the reps when it comes to calm leadership parenting, and feeling stressed when your children are acting out.  Lastly, Lisa addresses six listener questions, discussing how to find consequences for a 3-year-old, correcting behaviour from a 3-year-old, what a realistic day with a toddler actually looks like, and how to go about using the BratBusters Behaviour Board with a strong-willed child. 277: ENCORE: Embracing ADHD with Penn and Kim Holderness

If your child has been diagnosed with ADHD (or you suspect they might have it) this episode will change the way you see them. Dr. Lisa Damour and Reena Ninan revisit their candid, funny, and genuinely moving conversation with Penn and Kim Holderness — viral content creators, bestselling authors, podcasters, and authors of “ADHD is Awesome: A Guide to (Mostly) Thriving With ADHD.” Together, they strip away the shame, explain what it really feels like to have ADHD, and give parents a practical, strengths-based roadmap for helping their kids thrive at home and at school. 💡 YOU'LL LEARN: - Why shame about having ADHD can be more damaging than the ADHD itself — and how to talk with your child about their diagnosis from a place of love, not frustration - How ADHD can actually be a strength, and why its "abundance of attention" can fuel creativity, originality, and problem-solving when properly supported - Why medication alone isn't enough — and the systems, routines, and relationships that make the real difference in long-term thriving - How ADHD shows up differently in girls and women, and why so many are missed, masked, and struggling until much later in life - How to advocate for your child's accommodations at school and why an early, accurate diagnosis can be life-changing ________________  GET DR. POP STORIES, Sidonie Bonnec
