Mark Carney's first day

Mark Carney was sworn in as Canada's new Prime Minister Friday morning, after winning the Liberal leadership race in a landslide. He unveiled a new, leaner cabinet but tapped many of outgoing prime minister Justin Trudeau's ministers for key portfolios. Toronto Star Ottawa Bureau Chief Tonda MacCharles and national politics reporters Ryan Tumilty and Mark Ramzy join host Althia Raj to talk about Carney's cabinet picks, his first move as prime minister and what it says about the timing of the next federal election. Also on the show, pollster Alex Kohut of North Poll Strategies breaks down the Liberal leadership race numbers, and what they tell us about some of the challenges and opportunities the Liberal party may face and seize on the campaign trail. Vaccine Hunters are back for kids' vaccines and third-dose boosters

Guest: Andrew Young, founder and director of Vaccine Hunters Canada For more than a million Canadians, volunteers for Vaccine Hunters Canada have been heroes and messengers of hope in the difficulties of the pandemic. After the initial rollout of vaccines in spring 2021 were plagued by shipment delays, miscommunication, massive lines that stretched for hours that were no guarantee you'd get a shot, Vaccine Hunters Canada stepped in. The grassroots, citizen-led volunteer team sourced information on where to get the vaccine, confirmed the eligibility requirements and then shared that information across social media channels in a clear and accessible way. After a brief hiatus in the late summer, they're back to connect Canadians to children's vaccines as talk about third-dose boosters over the winter heats up. We talk to the founder of Vaccine Hunters on the community of helpers that have helped transform the pandemic.

Black Children's Lives Matter: Why Ontario's child welfare system needs change

According to Toronto Children's Aid Society, Black Torontonians only represent 9 percent of the city's population while Black children represent the highest percentage of children in their care. The most recent data shows 42 percent of children and youth in CAS-T's care identify as Black, reflecting a number that hasn't changed much in the last few years. Toronto's Children's Aid Society admits systemic racism is a problem, along with pre-conceived ideas about a parent's ability to care for their child. So how do we fix this? Mahesh Prajapat, Chief Operating Officer of CAS Toronto, tells Saba Eitizaz it's time for CAS to stop trying to bring children in to the child welfare system — and focus on supporting the family instead.

He is also passionate about responsible investing, and joins host Tim Nash on "Responsible Investing for a Sustainable Economy" to talk about the impact of arts and culture on the economy. "I try to think intentionally about how I'm participating in the world," Shad says. "Like in the words that I put together in the songs that I put together in the other things, in projects I'm involved in for work, in my relationships and our financial life, my financial life, this money that I'm putting towards retirement is a big part of how I participate in the world." Coming soon! Millennial Money uses personal stories to help offer relatable, practical advice to others in similar situations. This series aims to shed light on money issues millennials face, but also their success stories, in hopes readers are able to take a bit and pieces for their own life. "As a millennial myself, I never learned about finances," says Evy Kwong, host of Millennial Money. Financial issues for young people, in a precarious job market and unaffordable housing market, are closely linked to mental health. The series features a new person (or couple) each week. They are real people and situations, but their identities are protected with voice actors, in order to speak freely about what so many consider a very private topic: their finances. While the savings goals vary widely, the scenario for each interviewee is the same: they are asked to record every penny they spend in a typical week. Then, using tips from a financial adviser, they're challenged to cut their spending the following week so they can save more money.
