Inside Uganda’s Public Healthcare System | Kiruddu Hospital & Eye Care Explained

What does Uganda’s public healthcare system really look like, and how does it serve millions of people every day? In this episode of The Ugandan Podcast, host Brandy Valentine Azeirwe sits down with Dr. Elizabeth Nagawa, an ophthalmologist at Kiruddu National Referral Hospital, to unpack the realities of healthcare delivery in Uganda. From understanding how referral hospitals work to the critical role Kiruddu plays as a lifeline for patients who cannot afford care, this conversation dives deep into the structure of Uganda’s health system, the challenges healthcare workers face, and the impact of limited resources on patient outcomes. Dr. Nagawa also shares powerful insights into eye health, highlighting preventable blindness, the rise of non-communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension, and the importance of early screening. She explains how simple interventions like glasses or timely surgery can change lives, and why awareness and sensitization remain key. The episode also explores how technology, including AI and digital health tools, can improve diagnosis, reduce delays in care, and bring services closer to communities across Uganda.Whether you’re a medical professional, student, policymaker, or simply curious about healthcare in Uganda, this episode offers a human-centered look at service, resilience, and the mission to restore sight and save lives. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------Music by Luke Bergs: ▶️Youtube: https://bit.ly/3ozy6uk ▶️Spotify: https://spoti.fi/37O7TkS ▶️Soundcloud: https://bit.ly/37JG9hB ▶️Facebook: https://bit.ly/2JOvnhT ▶️Instragram: https://bit.ly/2JKGqsy ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ▶️Free Download: https://hypeddit.com/track/31hrng ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The Epstein survivors speak

Victoria Derbyshire speaks to survivors of paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier who died in prison in 2019 while awaiting a trial for sex trafficking. The interview took place in Washington DC, two weeks before Melania Trump, US First Lady, gave an unexpected press conference at the White House where she called for congressional hearings for the Epstein survivors. Millions of documents, emails and photographs are now in the public domain and show Epstein’s connections to high profile figures from politics, business and royalty. In this interview, which some listeners may find upsetting, Chauntae Davies, Joanna Harrison, Jena-Lisa Jones, Wendy Pesante and Lisa Phillips share their experiences, and discuss the impact that the abuse has had on their lives. Arlo Parks, singer-songwriter: I want to make music that lasts

“I don't necessarily want it to be the most giant album of all time and be selling out stadiums. I want something that lasts and that feels timeless and thoughtful.” Mark Savage speaks to Mercury Prize-winning singer-songwriter Arlo Parks about her life and music career. Born in London, the half Nigerian, quarter Chadian and quarter French artist, real name Anaïs Marinho, has enjoyed great success in her music career since her debut album was released in 2021. Having broken onto the music scene two years prior, Parks has performed twice at the Glastonbury music festival in England, supported the likes of Harry Styles and Billie Eilish on tour, and even written for Beyoncé. It’s been something of a whirlwind journey for the 25-year-old, who has returned with a new album after taking some time out of the spotlight in order to reclaim some normality in her life.
