We are back! Welcome to episode 446 of the Geektown Radio podcast and our first episode of 2025! This week, Dave is joined by Matt from Entertainment Talk to discuss all the latest and TV & film news and reviews! As we've been off for a few weeks, we have a lot to cover, and Matt dives in with some of the things he watched whilst we've been away, including his thoughts on the 'Gavin and Stacey' finale, catching 'An Evening with Dua Lipa', and catching up on both '9-1-1' and '9-1-1: Lone Star'. He also discusses the issues with trying to play through the original version of 'The Last Of Us' on the original PS3, which surprisingly, is something he has never done before. Meanwhile, Dave is back from his trip to LA... where everything was unexpectedly on fire... so he gives his thoughts on that experience. However, he also caught up on some new TV series including 'Paradise' and 'High Potential' on Disney+, along with new seasons of 'The Night Agent' on Netflix, and 'Severance' & 'Mythic Quest' on Apple TV+. Over in the news updates, we have a stack of renewed and cancelled TV shows since we've been away including so frustrating cuts by Disney, some not unsurprising cancellations from Netflix, and a very surprising scrapping of a show by Apple! Geekstorians Episode 7: D&D & The Satanic Panic

In the 1980s, Dungeons & Dragons became the focus of one of the most unusual moral panics in modern history. A tabletop role-playing game built around imagination, storytelling, and collaboration was suddenly accused of promoting occultism, psychological harm, and even violence. Dice were framed as sinister objects. Rulebooks were treated like dangerous texts. And ordinary teenagers playing fantasy games found themselves caught in a storm of fear and misinformation. In this episode of Geekstorians, Dave from Geektown unpacks how D&D was pulled into the wider Satanic Panic, and why it became such a powerful symbol of adult anxiety about youth culture, imagination, and control. The story begins with a missing student and a media myth that refused to go away, then follows the rise of anti-D&D campaigners, sensationalist talk shows, and made-for-TV dramas that blurred fiction and fact. Along the way, we explore how moral crusades spread, how “experts” were created for television, and how a game about fantasy became a real-world scapegoat. But this is also the story of what actually happened around the gaming table, and why Dungeons & Dragons endured attempts to ban it, blame it, or brand it dangerous. I may be away on holiday this week, but that hasn't stopped me working to bring you a special Geektown Radio podcast, featuring the brilliant actor, Peter Mensah, talking about his new show 'Midnight, Texas'.Peter has been a familiar face on TV and film for a number of years. His impressive list of film credits include 'The Incredible Hulk', '300' and 'Avatar', but he has also featured in some stand out TV performances. On 'Spartacus' he played Doctore/Oenomaus, he appeared in 'True Blood' as Kibwe, and most recently starred in 'Sleepy Hollow' as The Hidden One. There he finds himself surrounding with both human and supernatural allies, who band together to fight off outside pressures from ever-suspicious cops, deadly biker gangs, and their own dangerous pasts. Hitman's David Bateson, the voice of Agent 47 himself!David is a South African actor, born to English parents who now lives in Denmark. He’s worked across film, tv and theatre, but what we know and love him best for, is his voice work as Agent 47 in the long running Hitman video games. He has voiced the character since it’s inception in the year 2000, and, as far as we can tell, he is one of the longest serving voice actors in gaming history. We got to talk to him about his work, how the character has evolved, and some of his favourite scenes in the games.
