Tony winner Laura Benanti is In The Frame! You know Laura for her astounding Broadway career, which includes roles such as Maria in The Sound of Music, Cinderella in Into The Woods, Claudia in Nine, Julia in The Wedding Singer, Louise in Gypsy (which won her the Tony), Candela in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Amalia in She Loves Me and Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady. Beyond Broadway, Laura’s career spans concerts, television, film and comedy - she has been seen on everything from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to Younger, Gossip Girl and HBO’s The Gilded Age. Laura has spent the last month in the UK, performing her solo show Nobody Cares to sold out audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Before heading back to the US, Laura is bringing the show to London for two performances at Underbelly Boulevard Soho. S9 Ep32: Jack Wolfe, Gabe in Next To Normal

Olivier nominee Jack Wolfe is currently starring as Gabe in the UK premiere of Next To Normal. Following an acclaimed, sold-out run at the Donmar Warehouse, Michael Longhurst’s production has transferred to the West End for a limited run at the Wyndham’s Theatre. Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey’s musical premiered on Broadway in 2010, winning three Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. For his performance as Gabe, Jack won Best Supporting Performer at the WhatsOnStage Awards and Most Promising Newcomer at The Critics Circle Theatre Awards. He was also nominated for Best Emerging Talent at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards and Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Olivier Awards. Jack’s theatre credits include Peter in The Magician’s Elephant (RSC), The Snow Queen (Rose Theatre Kingston), The Musician (The Belfast Ensemble), Sweeney Todd (Lyric Theatre Belfast) and Pinocchio (National Theatre). This week West End Frame Editor Andrew is in New York for the first of two Broadway episodes. Andrew is joined by theatre journalist Lisa Martland (Editor of Musical Theatre Review) to delve into five new musicals and one revival from the 2023-24 Broadway season. They discuss Suffs (Music Box Theatre), The Great Gatsby (Broadway Theatre), The Wiz (Marquis Theatre), Hell’s Kitchen: A New Musical from Alicia Keys (Shubert Theatre), Water For Elephants (Imperial Theatre) and Lemkicka (Longacre Theatre). Having spent many years at The Stage – including five years as Deputy Editor – Lisa is the Founding Editor of one of the UK’s top theatre websites, Musical Theatre Review which recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. Courtney Stapleton is In The Frame! After training at ArtsEd Courtney made her West End debut in the ensemble of Mamma Mia!, as a cover for Ali. She went on to cover Éponine in Les Misérables and was dance captain for Bat Out of Hell. Courtney joined the original West End cast of Six as the alternate for Seymour and Parr before being cast in the original West End cast of Dear Evan Hansen as standby Zoe and Alana. Courtney starred as Belle in Beauty and the Beast (London Palladium & UK Tour), played Meg in Love Never Dies In Concert (Theatre Royal Drury Lane), Blast in SuperYou (Leicester Curve) and most recently starred as Kelly in The Mad Ones (The Other Palace). Additionally, Courtney has done various short films, workshops and concerts. In this episode Courtney discusses the path of her career, including some of the tougher times and why she’s falling back in love with singing and musical theatre. Courtney also reminisces about lots of the shows she has done (including lots of chat about Six) and more pops up along the way. Ahead of Tina: The Tina Turner Musical closing in the West End, in this episode we revisit the conversations we had with Karis Anderson, Kristina Love, Tsemaye Bob-Egbe, Rhianne Louise McCaulsky, Jenny Fitzpatrick and Chanel Haynes who have all played the title role. Tina received its world premiere in April 2018 in London and subsequently broke all box office records at the Aldwych Theatre. Directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, the show is choreographed by Anthony van Laast with set and costume designs by Mark Thompson. Karis Anderson is currently playing Tina, having previously understudied the role; Kristina Love originated the role in the German production before transferring to the London cast; Tsemaye Bob-Egbe was a Tina understudy in the original cast and later returned as the alternate Tina; Rhianne Louise McCaulsky played Aline and understudied Tina; Jenny Fitzpatrick was the original alternate Tina; Chanel Haynes shared the role of Tina. Producer Paul Taylor-Mills is back In The Frame! Paul is the artistic director of The Other Palace and Turbine Theatre. He’s currently preparing to take four musicals to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival including Silence! The Musical, Come Dine With Me: The Musical and I Wish You Well: The Gwyneth Paltrow Ski-Trial Musical in addition to My Son’s A Queer (But What Can You Do?) which is returning to Edinburgh as part of its first ever UK tour. Paul is also the long-time producer of Heathers which has just returned to the West End for a run at @SohoPlace ahead of its third UK tour. Elsewhere Paul is producing Closer To Heaven at the Turbine Theatre, Jordan Luke Gage’s musical Redcliffe which recently had a workshop run at The Other Palace Studio as well as a to-be-announced project which is *bleeped* out during this episode. Some other shows Paul has produced over the years include Be More Chill, In The Heights and Cake as well as the countless new musicals which have been part of MT Fest. In this episode Paul reveals why he's returning to the Fringe, reflects on My Son’s A Queer (But What Can You Do?)'s Broadway's postponement and and discusses the return of Heathers... and lots more! 300th Episode: Jerry Mitchell, director & choreographer of BOOP!, The Devil Wears Prada & Becoming Nancy

It's the 300th episode and Tony winner Jerry Mitchell is back In The Frame! Jerry has worked extensively as a director and choreographer in both the West End and on Broadway. He is currently nominated for Best Choreography at this year’s Tony Awards for his production of BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical - with music by David Foster - which is running to acclaim on Broadway. Meanwhile in London Jerry’s production of The Devil Wears Prada - with music by Elton John - is playing the Dominion Theatre and last year his production of Becoming Nancy had a regional run at the Birmingham Rep. Jerry is one of the producers for the upcoming off-West End run of the brand-new musical King of Pangea which opens at the King's Head Theatre in June. Written by Martin Storrow and directed by Richard Israel, King of Pangea follows Sam Crow following the loss of his relentlessly hopeful mother as he escapes to the imaginary island of his childhood. As a director and choreographer, some more of Jerry's shows have included Legally Blonde, Kinky Boots, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Pretty Woman. He directed On Your Feet and choreographed Hairspray. Jerry has won the Tony Award for Best Choreography twice for his work on La Cage aux Folles and Kinky Boots. Additionally he received the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award in 2023 in recognition of his support of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (largely through creating Broadway Bares). Jerry was last In The Frame five years ago and is back for our special 300th episode! Jerry kicks off the episode with a discussion about why he's producing King Of Pangea and the challenges of bringing new musicals to the stage in 2025. Jerry also talks all-things BOOP!, including the development of the show and casting Jasmine Amy Rogers. He reflects on how he approached The Devil Wears Prada, after he took the helm following the show's original staging in the US. Jerry also chats about Becoming Nancy's journey and whether we can expect future life for the show. Plus lots more pops up along the way! Kristina Walz is an offstage understudy in the original West End cast of Titaníque. Kristina is from the US and was previously in the off-Broadway production of Titaníque.
