#402 Skillet’s John and Korey Cooper Break Their Silence About NAR & Church Abuse

For the first time, John and Korey Cooper of the Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum rock band Skillet are breaking their silence about the church abuse that devastated their family and turned their community against them. For years, the Coopers were deeply embedded in Korey’s lifelong church, never realizing that its leadership embraced beliefs and practices associated with the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). Those beliefs weren't clearly disclosed, but as John and Korey began to understand what was really being taught and practiced behind the scenes, they started asking questions—and everything changed. What followed were prophetic words, accusations, pressure to submit to spiritual authority, fractured family relationships, and efforts to turn members of their own community against them. With Korey’s brother-in-law serving as the church’s “apostle” and her father remaining an elder, walking away came at an enormous personal cost. We also examine the theology and practices of the NAR, the dangers of unaccountable spiritual authority, how prophetic claims can be used to manipulate people, and what happens when questioning church leaders is treated as questioning God. In this raw and deeply personal conversation, John and Korey take us into their darkest moments—how spiritual abuse shook their faith, what kept them from walking away from Jesus, and what anchored them when everything else fell apart. ----------------------------------------------------------------- This video is sponsored by: FOUNDATION WORLDVIEW Foundation Worldview creates curriculum series that will empower your child to think Biblically in a deceptive world.  Go to www.foundationworldview.com for more information. #401 Is Point Loma Nazarene Becoming Progressive? Former Students Speak Out | Noah & Ashley Shaw

What happens when students attend a Christian university expecting their faith to be strengthened—but instead encounter professors who question Scripture, reject the atonement, and blur biblical teaching on sexuality? Former Point Loma Nazarene University students Noah and Ashley Shaw share what they they experienced firsthand—from being taught that Moses wasn’t real and hearing a radically different definition of the gospel, to LGBTQ activism on campus and the backlash they faced when they spoke up. Has Point Loma Nazarene become progressive? We explore that question in the next two episodes of the podcast. #400 Radical Islam, LGBTQ Ideology, Marxism & The Agenda That Unites Them | Frank Turek & Phoenix Hayes

What do radical Islam, LGBTQ ideology, cultural Marxism, socialism, and the Democratic Party have in common? On the surface, their beliefs—and even their ultimate goals—can radically contradict one another. So why do they so often end up politically and culturally aligned? In this episode, Alisa sits down with Frank Turek and Phoenix Hayes, authors of The War on Reality: Recovering Truth in a World That Celebrates Lies, to expose the worldview underneath some of the strangest alliances shaping our culture. They unpack the oppressed-vs.-oppressor framework of cultural Marxism, the growing influence of radical Islam, the algorithm’s role in distorting how we see reality, and why Christians can’t simply retreat from cultural and political battles. At the center of it all is a much bigger question: What happens to a culture when objective truth is replaced by “your truth” and “my truth”? Frank and Phoenix argue that the war on reality didn’t begin with politics—it begins with the question, “Has God really said?” This conversation is provocative, funny, and deadly serious—and a challenge to Christians to know what they believe, recognize the ideologies competing for our culture, refuse to stay silent, and stand firmly on the ultimate source of truth: Christ. ----------------------------------------------------------------- This video is sponsored by: GOOD RANCHERS American Meat Delivered Go to https://go.goodranchers.com/alisa for more information. #399 Radical Muslims Threatened His Family—A Crash Course in Radical Islam | Michael Jones

Michael Jones and his family were doxxed and threatened for publicly challenging Islam. Their personal information was exposed, the threats became serious enough that they had to move—and Michael refused to be silenced. In this episode, Michael, creator of Inspiring Philosophy, joins me for a crash course on what Christians need to know about the threat of radical Islam. We unpack the origins of Islam, Muhammad and the Quran, the Hadith, Islam’s treatment of women, its political dimensions, what Muslims believe about Jesus and Allah, and why Michael believes Christians need to understand what Islam’s foundational texts actually teach. Michael shares practical ways Christians can engage Muslim friends and neighbors, challenge the Islamic worldview, and ultimately point Muslims to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Islam is growing. Christians need to understand what it teaches—and we cannot be afraid to talk about it. ----------------------------------------------------------------- This video is sponsored by: A'DEL NATURAL COSMETICS Elevate your skincare routine with A'del's toxin-free cosmetics.  Experience the difference in quality and purity.  Go to www.adelnaturalcosmetics.com for more information.  Use my code: ALISA  BRAVE BOOKS Entertainment that Engages the Imagination for Good.   Go to www.bravebooks.com/childers for more information Use my code: CHILDERS ALLIANCE FAMILY SERVICES Alliance Family Services is a Gospel-centered organization that relentlessly advocates for preborn children, women, and families by providing exceptional reproductive healthcare, Biblical discipleship, and social support. 5. #397 Do Christians Have to Forgive Everyone? Answering Biggest Objections to Conditional Forgiveness | Teasi Cannon

#397 Do Christians Have to Forgive Everyone? Answering Biggest Objections to Conditional Forgiveness | Teasi Cannon

Few topics generate more emotional pushback among Christians than forgiveness. Are Christians required to forgive everyone—even when the person who hurt them refuses to repent? And if forgiveness is conditional, does that contradict Jesus’ command to forgive? In this episode, I sit down again with Teasi Cannon, author of Counterfeit Forgiveness: How a Modern Myth Betrays Victims, Protects Abusers, and Corrupts the Gospel, to respond to the biggest objections to the conditional view of biblical forgiveness. We tackle passages like Mark 11:25 and Jesus’ prayer from the cross, “Father, forgive them,” and ask whether requiring repentance makes forgiveness transactional. We also discuss how to recognize genuine repentance and what happens when an offender never repents, is unavailable, has died, or is unsafe. Most importantly, we address the concern at the heart of this debate: Does conditional forgiveness leave victims trapped in bitterness or unable to heal? Teasi explains why rejecting therapeutic forgiveness does not mean holding onto bitterness, refusing to love your enemies, or abandoning healing—and why forgiveness, reconciliation, restoration, justice, and trust need to be understood as distinct biblical categories. Is conditional forgiveness really a new or fringe idea—or has therapeutic culture reshaped the way many Christians understand forgiveness? This conversation goes straight to Scripture to ask what God actually requires of us when we’ve been sinned against. ----------------------------------------------------------------- This video is sponsored by: SEVEN WEEKS COFFEE Taste the Coffee that is Saving Lives. 6. #398 Black Lives, Abortion, and the Racism No One Wants to Talk About | Ryan Bomberger

#398 Black Lives, Abortion, and the Racism No One Wants to Talk About | Ryan Bomberger

Ryan Bomberger came ready to challenge sacred cows and say the things many Christians are afraid to say. Conceived in rape and placed for adoption, Ryan has called himself “the 1% used to justify 100% of abortions.” Now, as founder of the Radiance Foundation and author of Should Have Been Aborted, he has spent decades fighting for the dignity of every human life. In this episode, Ryan holds nothing back as we dig into the surprising intersection of abortion, racism, and critical race theory. Why does CRT teach us to scrutinize racial disparities throughout American society, while the enormous racial disparity in abortion receives comparatively little attention? And what happens when churches adopt secular frameworks for understanding race instead of beginning with Scripture? Ryan argues that Christians have allowed fear of being labeled “racist” to silence them—and directly challenges some of the books, movements, and ideas that have shaped the evangelical conversation about race since 2020. We also turn the spotlight on the pro-life movement itself. Ryan doesn’t give Republicans a pass, criticizing what he sees as the GOP’s retreat on abortion and the Trump administration’s weaknesses on key life issues. But this conversation isn’t just about politics. It’s about the church. Ryan challenges Christians who are so concerned with being “winsome” that they become afraid to confront lies, defend the vulnerable, or risk being called names. He explains why speaking the truth in love sometimes requires courage, clarity, and a willingness to be unpopular. This is a provocative, practical conversation about abortion, race, courage, and what it looks like to be beholden to no one but God and His Word. ----------------------------------------------------------------- This video is sponsored by: WE HEART NUTRITION From Our Family to Yours, Whole Supplements for Every Age and Stage. #392 Frank Turek Responds to Candace Owens' Claims | Frank Turek

Charlie Kirk's assassination sparked an explosion of conspiracy theories. Many of those claims, amplified by Candace Owens, have accused eyewitnesses, Charlie's friends, and even TPUSA of participating in a massive cover-up. In this episode, Frank Turek responds directly. Frank was with Charlie the day he was murdered. He rode with him to the hospital. He has also become one of the primary targets of these accusations. We examine the biggest claims one by one: Was there really drone footage? Did Frank change his story about his cell phone? Did he perform CPR? What does credible eyewitness testimony actually look like? Why should Christians care about conspiracy theories? This conversation goes beyond one tragic event. It's about truth, evidence, discernment, and the biblical responsibility to reject slander, baseless accusations, and defend those who are being unjustly attacked. ----------------------------------------------------------------- This video is sponsored by: GOOD RANCHERS American Meat Delivered Go to https://go.goodranchers.com/alisa for more information. #391 Busting the Biggest Myths About Complementarianism | Denny Burk

Was Phoebe the first female preacher? Was Junia an apostle? Can women preach, teach, or host Christian podcasts? These questions are fueling some of the biggest debates in evangelicalism today. In this episode, Denny Burk joins me to separate biblical complementarianism from the caricatures. We tackle the Al Mohler controversy, the real meaning of 1 Timothy 2, whether Phoebe preached Romans, whether Junia was an apostle, and how Christians should think about women in ministry without going beyond—or falling short of—what Scripture teaches. ----------------------------------------------------------------- This video is sponsored by: WE HEART NUTRITION From Our Family to Yours, Whole Supplements for Every Age and Stage. Why are young men and young women increasingly moving in different cultural and political directions? In this episode, Alisa sits down with Dr. Corey Miller, president of Ratio Christi, to discuss trends shaping higher education, the church, and Western culture. They explore the growing gender divide on college campuses, the rise of cultural apologetics, the role of empathy in persuasion, and why today's campus debates often become tomorrow's cultural norms. #396 She’s 18—And She’s Changing Minds About Abortion | Ava Calhoun

At just 18 years old, Ava Calhoun is taking a microphone to college campuses and city streets to ask strangers a simple question: When do you think life begins? And remarkably, she’s actually changing minds. Several people who entered conversations with her holding pro-choice views have walked away persuaded of the pro-life position. In this episode, Ava joins me to break down what she’s learned from having face-to-face conversations about abortion: how to ask good questions, how to respond to the arguments she hears over and over, and how to remain calm and respectful when the person on the other side is hostile. We also talk about why curiosity can be more effective than trying to score a “gotcha,” how to handle questions you don’t know how to answer, and why Christians shouldn’t measure the success of a conversation solely by whether someone changes their mind on the spot. Then we put those strategies to the test by reacting to viral TikToks making some of today’s most common arguments for abortion—including claims that the Bible never condemns abortion, that life begins at first breath, and that Christians and pastors can be pro-choice. This is an especially important episode to share with teenagers and young adults. Ava demonstrates that you don’t need to be an expert or have a theology degree to make a difference. You can learn to think clearly, ask good questions, speak the truth with courage and gentleness—and maybe even change someone’s mind. #390 My Honest Review of Jen Wilkin's Women of the Word + How to Study the Bible

Is Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin a reliable guide for learning how to study the Bible? With more than 250,000 copies sold, Women of the Word has become one of the most widely recommended books on Bible study for Christian women. But does it offer a biblically sound approach to interpreting Scripture? In this episode, I take an in-depth look at Jen Wilkin's bestselling book, examining its central claims, evaluating its approach to hermeneutics, and comparing its teaching with biblical principles for handling God's Word. Along the way, we'll discuss: Why it's important to ask what a passage meant before asking what it means for us. The relationship between the mind, the heart, and spiritual transformation. Common mistakes Christians make when studying the Bible. Why context matters—and why Scripture must interpret Scripture. The difference between description and prescription in biblical narratives. How our view of the Bible shapes the way we read it. Practical principles that can help you grow in biblical literacy. I'll also share several of my own Bible study tips, recommend additional resources for going deeper, and explain why sound Bible study matters for every Christian. Whether you're just beginning to study the Bible or you've been reading it for years, this episode will challenge you to think more carefully about how we approach God's Word. ----------------------------------------------------------------- This video is sponsored by: FOUNDATION WORLDVIEW Foundation Worldview creates curriculum series that will empower your child to think Biblically in a deceptive world.  Go to www.foundationworldview.com for more information. #388 AI 101: What Every Christian Should Know About Artificial Intelligence | Ryan Pauly

AI is already shaping the way we search, learn, create, and even think. The question isn't whether Christians should engage with AI, it's how. In this conversation, Alisa sits down with Ryan Pauly to wrestle with questions like: Can AI think? Does it have a mind—or does it just process information? Why does it so confidently get things wrong? And how can Christians avoid letting technology shape their worldview instead of allowing Scripture to shape the way they use technology? They discuss: Why AI is never truly "neutral" The crucial difference between a mind and a machine How technology quietly forms our habits and worldview AI's tendency to hallucinate—and why that matters Biblical principles for stewarding AI without becoming mastered by it Practical ways to use AI while protecting wisdom, discernment, and human flourishing Whether you're enthusiastic about AI or deeply skeptical, this conversation will help you think biblically about one of the most influential technologies of our time. ----------------------------------------------------------------- This video is sponsored by: SEVEN WEEKS COFFEE Taste the Coffee that is Saving Lives. #384 Does Hierarchy Hurt Marriage? Let's Listen to Sheila Wray Gregoire Together

What happens when popular Christian voices claim that hierarchy is the root cause of harm in marriage, sex, and the church? In this episode, I listen through key clips from a recent Theology Gals interview with Sheila Wray Gregoire and offer a live, real-time response. I examine claims about complementarianism, egalitarianism, purity culture, deconstruction, women's well-being, marriage dynamics, and the future of the church. Rather than simply telling you what to think, I hope to model the process of discernment...evaluating arguments, questioning assumptions, examining methodology, and comparing every claim to Scripture. Along the way, I highlight points of agreement, challenge what I believes are misrepresentations of complementarian theology, and explores how Christians can thoughtfully engage influential voices online. Whether you're wrestling with questions about marriage, church leadership, deconstruction, or how to evaluate the content you consume, this episode offers a practical look at biblical discernment in action. ----------------------------------------------------------------- This video is sponsored by: WE HEART NUTRITION From Our Family to Yours, Whole Supplements for Every Age and Stage. #393 Should Christians Support Equal Protection for the Preborn? A Friendly Debate with Scott Klusendorf

Equal protection for the preborn has become one of the biggest and most divisive debates in the pro-life movement. Everyone agrees abortion ends the life of an innocent human being. Everyone wants to see abortion end. The disagreement is over how Christians should get there. In this episode, Alisa sits down with pro-life apologist Scott Klusendorf for a thoughtful and friendly debate about whether pursuing equal protection legislation right now is the best path forward. Scott argues that while equal protection is the right destination, pushing for it today could actually undermine the pro-life movement and cost lives. Alisa, who supports equal protection, challenges his position while seeking to understand the strongest case against it. Topics include: What equal protection actually means Incrementalism vs. abolition Should women ever be prosecuted for abortion? Lessons from William Wilberforce and the abolition of slavery Why worldview—not just politics—is at the heart of the abortion debate Whether pursuing equal protection now is wise or premature Next week, Ginna Cross joins the podcast to make the case for equal protection and explain why she believes it is the only consistent application of justice for the unborn. ----------------------------------------------------------------- This video is sponsored by: BRAVE BOOKS Entertainment that Engages the Imagination for Good.   Go to www.bravebooks.com/childers for more information Use my code: CHILDERS RANGE LEATHER American-Made Craftsmanship from Wyoming Go to www.rangeleather.com for more information Use my code: ALISA A'DEL NATURAL COSMETICS Elevate your skincare routine with A'del's toxin-free cosmetics.  Experience the difference in quality and purity.  Go to www.adelnaturalcosmetics.com for more information.  Use my code: ALISA  ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Booking: www.alisachilders.com/booking To help in your study of the Bible: www.logos.com/alisa To Purchase the new CD, “Beauty from the Ash”, go to www.alisachilders.com/music There you can get the CD, backing tracks, string charts, rhythm charts and stems. #387 Is There a Demonic Agenda Behind Alien Fascination and Disclosure Day? | Jac Marino

What if the biggest threat behind today's alien obsession isn't extraterrestrial at all? Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day has people asking questions about God, creation, and whether discovering intelligent life would shatter the Christian worldview. But would it? In this episode, I review the film, respond to its biggest theological claims, explore what the Bible actually says about extraterrestrial life, and explain why the existence of aliens wouldn't undermine Christianity. Then, former occultist Jac Marino joins me to share her chilling story of what she once believed were alien encounters, including abduction experiences, channeling, and supernatural phenomena. Today, she believes those experiences were real, but not extraterrestrial. Could the modern fascination with UFOs and "the grays" be pointing to something far more spiritual? Join us as we separate biblical truth from speculation and examine one of today's most intriguing—and controversial—subjects. #383 Two Trisomy Moms Respond to a Viral Abortion Story | Carli Smith & Mandi Moseley

When YouTubers Jesse and Ashley Ridgeway announced that they had aborted their baby after receiving a prenatal Down syndrome diagnosis, the story sparked intense online debate. But what if the voices most needed in that conversation were the parents who received similar diagnoses—and chose life? In this episode, Alisa is joined by two mothers whose children were diagnosed with chromosomal abnormalities before birth. Carli's son, Shep, has Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), and Mandi's daughter, Ellie, has Trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), a condition often described by medical professionals as "incompatible with life." Together, they share their deeply personal journeys of receiving devastating prenatal diagnoses, navigating fear and uncertainty, confronting the messages they received from the medical community, and ultimately choosing to welcome their children into the world. They also respond to the Ridgeways' public statements and discuss the broader cultural implications of selective abortion based on disability. This conversation explores suffering, trust in God, the value of every human life, and the unexpected joy that can emerge from circumstances many people are told to fear. Whether you're facing a difficult diagnosis, walking alongside someone who is, or simply seeking to think more deeply about these issues, this episode offers hope, perspective, and encouragement. #57 John Mark Comer's Practicing the Way: Serious Theological Concerns

In this episode of Unshaken Faith, we take a careful, biblical look at Practicing the Way by John Mark Comer, a book that has quickly gained popularity in Christian discipleship and spiritual formation circles. Many listeners have asked whether we recommend it and after a thorough review, the answer is no. We walk through the book’s core framework, its view of spiritual formation, and how it defines discipleship and transformation. While some of the practices it encourages may sound helpful on the surface, we found deeper theological concerns underneath including influences that overlap with contemplative spirituality, charismatic/NAR-style formation models, progressive-leaning theology, and sacramental or mystical streams more commonly associated with Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic spirituality. Most importantly, we evaluate the book’s message against the biblical gospel. Does it clearly present salvation by grace through faith? Does it ground transformation in the finished work of Christ or shift the center toward practices and processes? We explain where we believe the message drifts and why that matters for everyday Christians. Our goal is not to attack people, but to equip believers with discernment. We encourage you to think biblically, test everything against Scripture, and stay rooted in the true gospel. If this book has been recommended to you, or if you’re already reading it, this episode will help you evaluate it through a clear theological lens. #365 Biblical Forgiveness Isn’t What You’ve Been Told | Teasi Cannon

Is “forgive and forget” actually biblical — or a modern therapeutic idea Christians have absorbed without realizing it? In this episode, I sit down with Teasi Cannon to challenge one of the most widely accepted assumptions in church culture: that forgiveness is primarily about personal emotional freedom. We unpack the biblical pattern of forgiveness as something tied to repentance, truth, and real relational restoration — not merely an internal process of releasing bad feelings. The conversation tackles hard questions many believers wrestle with: What about unrepentant offenders? Does healing require forgiveness? How should Christians think about reconciliation after abuse or spiritual harm? This episode exposes how a feelings-centered model of forgiveness became dominant and why redefining forgiveness matters for the gospel itself. If you’ve ever felt confused, pressured, or spiritually burdened by popular teachings on forgiveness, this discussion offers a framework designed to bring clarity and biblical precision. ------------------------------------------------------------------ This video is sponsored by: SEVEN WEEKS COFFEE Taste the Coffee that is Saving Lives.
