85 Percent: A Wanderful Podcast Beth Santos

Women make 85% of travel decisions, so why are we not seen in 85% of travel marketing? What is shown to us when it comes to the "traveling woman"? Two narratives: either we're having a life-changing transformation and devouring pasta OR we're getting kidnapped and in fear for our lives. It's never somewhere in between.
As the founder of leading women's travel community, Wanderful, and creator of an incredible series of events, festivals, and activities for women travelers worldwide, I KNOW there is more to women traveling than what — and who — is represented in the movies or seen on commercials. So, I'm going to talk about it with some of the most phenomenal influencers, CEOs and changemakers in travel and hospitality around the world. Come buckle up and be my audio travel companion. I'm Beth Santos and this is 85 Percent.

How Storytelling Changes Travel with Lola Akinmade
I have another amazing episode for you! If you didn't get an opportunity to listen to the inspiration words of Nour Brahimi, my second guest, click here right after you listen to this episode.
In this episode, I am speaking with Lola Akinmade. Lola was born in Nigeria, educated in the United States and is based in Sweden. She was named one of eight 2022 Hasselblad Heroines and the 2018 Travel Photographer of the Year Bill Muster Award recipient. The great Lola started her career behind the camera covering a popular reality TV series. Now she's a master storyteller – someone who can leave a room absolutely stunned in silence just from the words that come out of her mouth.
She's a powerful speaker, a talented writer, a social entrepreneur, a painter – and so much more.
She also has a lot to say about how we're representing women in the world, how we should make travel better for all of us, and how the stories we tell ourselves and the grace we give ourselves plays an enormous role in making that all work.

This Podcast Makes Me Want to Travel
In each episode, Beth highlights the most amazing, knowledgeable and charasmatic women in the traveling industry. I loved going on cruises and trips with my family when I was younger. Listening to this podcast not only reminds me of thsoe fond times but want to provide that type of experience for my family. As a woman of color, it has also opened my eyes to marketing and asking why we aren't showcased as vacationers. This podcast is amazing and I can't wait to hear more.
