An Old Ghost Story: The Turn of the Screw (Part 4)

Ready for more ghostly and unsettling encounters? Me too! Follow me into this spooky reading of Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw!" Good evening friends, fiends, and night owl supremes! Welcome back for more of the Story behind "The Haunting of Bly Manor" - "The Turn of the Screw" Part 4 (Chapters 9, 10, and 11!) FINALLY things are starting to get more actively spooky! The governess has a super late night encounter with the dreaded Peter Quint - this time on the stairs in the small hours of the morning. Little Flora has started acting strange - staring out of her bedroom window. When the governess catches her at this a second time, she also sees little Miles outside on the grounds, staring at something above the governess. She rushes him inside and wants to get the truth at last out of him as to what has been going on, but he lies, says it was all a joke. SHE doesn't want them to know she knows what they know, and accepts this. Why, I don’t know? Something about not falling into traps? Does that matter when there are supernatural malevolent forces about, really? Ah, whatever. Tonight is Part 5, or chapters 12, 13, and 14, so we’ll hopefully encounter many more ghostly things that go bump in the night! Mwahahaha. This tale, Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw," is read in a soft voice and set to some light and eerie background music. I do hope you enjoy this evening's ghost story story! Tonight's Story Behind Bly Manor Part 4 is from the following chapters: The Turn of the Screw, Chapter 9: 1:33 The Turn of the Screw, Chapter 10: 13:54 The Turn of the Screw, Chapter 11: 24:41 "Blue Feather, Reaching Out, Parting of the Ways, Floating Cities" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ This tale, "The Turn of the Screw" by Henry James, is now in public domain. A Very Disturbing Fairytale: Sun, Moon, and Talia (The Creepy Sleeping Beauty)

Got too much on your mind? Need a familiar story to just breathe to? Well I'm not sure this is the fairy tale for that, but hey, we're reading it together! Join me for tonight's Sleeping Beauty's Origin Story of sorts - we travel back to Giambattista Basile's tale of "Sun, Moon, and Talia" which is creepy in it's old creepy old man king way. Of course. Why would we expect anything else? Ah well. There is also two little fairy babies (which I'm pretty sure where ah... something else in the original) and a jealous queen who makes her husband and sun eat these children (kinda) after cooking them into so many dishes. A whole lot happens, and while it's not a traditional "Happily Ever After" (or maybe it is because this is a traditional tale?) it's interesting for sure! NOT a Disney Princess Aurora Sleeping Beauty happily ever after. This tale, Giambattista Basile's "Sun, Moon, and Talia" is read in a soft voice and set to some light and soft background music. I do hope you enjoy the this evening's fairytale storytelling! An Old Ghost Story: The Turn of the Screw (Part 1)

Follow along with me as I read this classic ghost story - I'm sure we'll have more than a few shared scares! Tonight, we begin Henry James' chilling "The Turn of the Screw" with the Introduction, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. We get the whole creepy origin and set-up to infamous Bly, and more than a few hints to it's mystery are already peppered in! We get a frightful amount of set up - Douglass has gathered a curious group around the fire in an old house to tell the story of Bly out of a red gilt manuscript. We (through the beautiful handwriting of the governess) meet Mrs. Grouse and little Flora, and get a grand little tour of the big house… which feels like a ship adrift at sea it seems. We also learn that young Miles has been kicked out of school, and that the previous governess has died. Mysteriously. And that’s about as much as Mrs. Grouse will let on! This tale, "The Turn of the Screw" by Henry James is read in a soft voice and set to some light and eerie background music. I do hope you enjoy the this evening's start into an old ghost story!
